If you’re a busy mom like me – wait, let me start over. If you’re like me and hate grocery shopping, then this week’s giveaway is totally up your aisle. I’ve learned to enjoy cooking, but the chore of making a list, bleeding money at the grocery store and then coming home to find you’ve forgotten the cardamom still drives us to take-out more than we’d like. So imagine my delight when You’ve Got Supper entered our lives.
YGS was started by two busy moms right here in Richmond (holla) and basically does your weekly recipe planning AND grocery list making for you (double holla). Just sign up for their free weekly email for five easy recipe suggestions. Pick the ones you want to make (or add others from their archive) and YGS automatically generates a complete, printable shopping list for you. Basically, my lifesaver. And this week they’re giving away $100 in groceries to one of our lucky readers who just might need some lifesaving in the kitchen too.
We’ve been using them for a while now, and just last week we made three of their meals that we never tried before: Honey Chicken Kebabs, One-Pot Pork Tenderloin and Crispy Potatoes and Creamy Dreamy Mac and Cheese. Here’s that mac and cheese making Burger wish he were human:
And now for this week’s giveaway deets:

It is such a struggle trying to find recipes that are healthy and that my picky baby-daddy will eat. They have to be super flavorful… either that or loaded with salt. I’ve found that any kind of pasta works best– with just about anything thrown in! :)

this would be perfect for putting a super amazing thanksgiving meal on the table.
my favorite way to “mix up dinner” is cooking for friends one day of the week and they bring dessert and then switching the next week and so on and so on

One of my favorite things about Blogland is getting to snoop on people and their meal plans–I often find tons of recipes that I’d love to try, and more and more bloggers are doing photographic step-by-step instructions, which makes it a cinch.
PS–John, you should let us in on some of your recipes every once in awhile!

What a great idea! I could sure use something like that!
When I want to mix it up I will close my eyes and point to a random recipe.I don’t like having to go to the store for that one missing ingredient though so I don’t do it often!

Seriously, this is BRILLIANT!
I HATE grocery shopping and feel like I always get the same stuff over and over and over again. I am not a meal planner and am so excited about this site!!!!!!
I think the only thing I make that is ‘unique’ is a salsa bean dip. Drained black beans, red onion chopped, cummin, lemmon juice (fresh), cherry tomatoes (quartered), salt and pepper, and fresh basil cut into strips. Eat with tortilla chips..makes a great appetizer or a yummy lunch :-}

First time poster, long time reader…LOVE the blog.
To answer the challenge – my idea of dinner is eating what my husband cooks (which is always awesome) and then doing the dishes. We’ve got the system down pat. So, “mixing it up” means that I would do the cooking. I’m not always successful, but I love surprising him with something made with love (and hopefully not burnt beyond recognition). And on those nights when neither of us can muster the energy, I’ll just pick up a pizza on the way home:)

our easy way to change up our favorite, taco night, is to try to “upgrade” slash “adultify” the ingredients. so we do ground angus, romaine lettuce or arugula, fresh pico de gallo, avocado, sour cream, high quality cheeses, and wheat wraps. mmmmmmmm.

my favorite thing to do is read blog recipes and try and match them up to things that i already have in my kitchen. i try and be creative and see if i can substitute things or take a recipe and change it enough so i can do it without going to the grocery store. it saves money and helps me think more in depth about the construction of recipes! it also is kind of fun, like a treasure hunt.

And…we love to have leftover feasts when we don’t feel like cooking. It’s just a random montage of anything in the fridge, whether it goes together or not! Then we follow it up with some yummy chocolate sodas from the ice cream shop.

To change it up – I go through my recipe box and a cookbook my mom made for me to find something I haven’t had in awhile.

I WANT SUPPER!!!!
I have a magnetic menu board in our kitchen and I list each day of the week with a decorative magnet (Monday, Tuesday, etc.) Sunday, I write down the dinner for each day, and then go grocery shopping. It really helps me stick to it, plus if know what I’m having on Friday, if I’m at the store on Wednesday I can pick a few fresh things up for the Friday’s meal. It sounds challenging, but really it’s not and it helps me stick to the “program.”

We like to eat a few of our favorite snack foods that usually don’t go together. For instance, we recently had homemade guacamole with tortilla chips and pigs in a blanket for dinner. It’s strange but it means we get to eat our favorites!

I WANT SUPPER! The crock-pot has been a lifesaver over the last few months – usually we try at least one new recipe per week out of our myriad of cookbooks that we find on the cheap at Marshall’s or TJ Maxx – some are good, some not so much, but at least we give it a shot!

We have a family of four and a budget to stick by… Planning our weekly meals is a must or we will spend way too much at the grocery store or wind up eating out all week. I chose 1 “cheap eat” per week (egg salad or tuna sammies, hot dogs, brinner) and we try one new recipe per week (usually from allrecipes.com.) The rest of the weekly menu is filled with a list I keep of family favorites (red beans and rice, spaghetti, taco salad, roast, etc.) and I try to rotate them so we’re not eating the same thing over and over.
