Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.
You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!
And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.
- PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

I’m planning on painting the entire exterior of the house this fall!! No idea what color (a slate grey? green-grey? sandy-beige???), and what about a fun door color?! Oh so many choices. The outside is currently 3 different colors, including some paint-stained brick and blah-blue shakes.

I haven’t thought that far ahead yet. I just want to get my summer projects finished! Like painting my daughter’s furniture before it gets too cold outside to finish! She is 6 months old and her room is still…not…done. Ack. In our defense we were told we were having a boy and “his” room was done before I gave birth. Imagine our surprise when our little baby boy had a v instead of a p! :)

I am in the midst of completely furnishing our new apartment in DC. We moved from Alaska and brought absolutely nada with us, so it’s been an adventure. Our wedding is next month, too! Whew!

Talk to me! We are trying to get our porch sanded and stained (stripes actually, ala your old house) and re-vamp a wooden swingset we got for free from my husbands co-worker. The price was right but it could use a little tlc. Hopefully we can get them done before the snow moves in.

For the Fall & Winter, we plan to have the exterior of our house painted a dark Charcoal, our oil heating system converted to gas, and the last few rooms in the house painted to warm things up… the kitchen & the sun porch. We live in cold upstate New York so all of these changes will be timely for winter!

This fall we are planning to replace the rest of our window blinds downstairs. They are currently the thin aluminum mini-blinds (were there when we bought the house) and I can’t wait to get rid of them!

The only things on my to-do list are 1. put removeable silicon around the windows on my 60+ year old home and 2. Pack up everything non-essential so we can have an easier time moving. Oh and I guess 3. Figure out a workable bedroom arrangement so my 2 girls can sleep in the same bedroom that they want soooo badly.

My hubby has done a lot of hard work on the yard this summer, so for the winter I’d like to focus on (finally!) painting an accent wall in our bedroom, and totally overhauling the office (new desk, update bookshelves, install the printer that’s been sitting there FOR-EV-ER)
