Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.
You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!
And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.
- PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

TALK TO ME!! I have sme summer projects that will turn to fall projects (Who are we kidding, they were spring projects…). Since I live in the stinking hot desert, there really is no such thing as a summer project outside if you can get away wtih it. my big “summer” project is to rip out this big nasty, Im-sure-spider-and-scorpion-filled cactus that is just next to my pool, in a location that said scorpions, spiders, cactus spines, etc. will probably end up in the pool. Gee, I wonder why I am putting it off?

We need to tear out the garage ceiling and insulate and get a new garage door(s)! The ones we have now (old wooden doors) are warped and don’t close. They let in a LOT of cold air to the upstairs living area.

For Fall: to build a cubby bench and flanking bookshelves to create a mudwall/playroom area… gotta get organized for school!

We HAVE to start and finish working on our basement since we bought our house 2 years ago, knowing that our floor joists supporting the first floor are FIVE FEET apart, yep 5 whole feet, no 16″ OC here. We started the demo in May, but havent been able to get started on the real work (jacking up the house, removing plumbing, and installing new joists). However, since we removed some of the baseboard heating in the basement, if we dont get this basement fixed by mid to late October, we’ll have no heat for the cold months, and in Western New York, that will not work!

We did a quick room rearrangement this weekend in our sunroom that feels more like a sunroom than the “cozy” easily cluttered with lots of windows family room it was. Our other projects are small like touching up paint and repairing walls so that our house looks better for the adoption home study coming up in September. Of course there is always stripping the wallpaper in the office and painting to make it the baby’s room.

I’d love to finish our master bath nook. We redid the entire master bedroom minus the master bath last summer.. Inertia took over, alas. So, we’re motivated to finish by the year’s end. That’s not too long, is it? Is it?

TALK TO ME! I’m hoping to finish (which means these projects have been started but are sitting idle)1. insulating the ductwork, 2. insulating the attic in the cottage, 3. moving the foundation plants to get ready for new additions, 4. painting and replacing all the trim we removed in the laundry and cottage, 5. lay a new floor in the cottage bathroom. That oughtta keep us busy, n’est-ce pas? Jo @ Let’s Face the Music

We need to get a big ole rug in our living room because the last one got water damage while rolled up in the basement during potty training! Hard to imagine the holidays without rolling on the floor playing with the kids and a rug will make all of that a great deal more comfy than just the hardwoods.

My husband and I are tackeling our two only bathrooms this November! We’ve been buying piece by piece to help releave the stress of all of the $$ we’re spending! We have a wonderful 1912 home and the bathrooms had been redone in the 50’s with wonderful pink tile! I would be able to live with it, however, my husband will not any longer:) Not to mention the 1st floor bathroom was leaking one day a few months back and we ended up having to shut off the sinks in the 2nd story bath so we could save up and prepare for this remodel! So we’re working with a 1/2 torn up bathroom at the moment with no sink usage and a ugly ceiling in the other bathroom:( Soon we will have our beautiful black and white subway tile bathroom with a beautiful acrylic clawfoot tub:) Check out my blog to keep up with the progress:)
