Random.org got his random on and selected our winner as… Tracey @ Tropical Happiness (who just moved into a new house last week so she has lots of shopping to do). Congrats! For everyone else, keep that chin up – you can still enter the Hometalk $500 Lowe’s gift card giveaway through Sunday.
You may already know that Hometalk is a community of home improvement experts (including some familiar HGTV faces) and fellower DIYers sharing home and garden projects, advice, and even contractors. And for this week’s giveaway they’re majorly hooking someone up… to the tune of a $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel!
And as if that weren’t enough, over on their site they’re also giving away another 500 bucks (this time to Lowe’s). So to get in on that little bonus freebie, you can answer their quick poll question (about what outdoor summer project you still need to tackle – btw, our answer is C), sign up for a free account, and then cross your fingers really hard. Of course you can just enter for the Crate & Barrel gift card by commenting over here (or the Lowe’s card over there) so there’s no pressure to do both.
- PRIZE: A $500 gift card to Crate & Barrel courtesy of Hometalk
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “TALK TO ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … since Hometalk is polling folks about their summer projects, let’s cover your fall & winter plans here. What’s on your to-tackle list later this year? Maybe updating your fireplace just in time for cooler weather? Or redoing your bedroom for those cold winter nights? Or are you just itching to decorate for Halloween and Christmas already?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, August 17th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: The 50 United States
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday morning for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked for hosting this giveaway, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics courtesy of Hometalk.

Talk to me! Our projecs for the fall are to make homemade bread (cozy and warm on crisp New England fall days) and to buy a sewing machine and learn how to use it to make pretty stuff for the house like new throw pillows, maybe even a new slipcover for our ugly couch…

TALK TO ME! We live in a row house in the Fan so closet space is scarce; this fall we plan to construct some shoe racks that look like a piece of furniture so they can stand alone in our bedroom. I, like Sherry, have an mild shoe obsession and can’t wait to see them all ‘on display’!

My husband and I just started a huge project – refinishing and reupholstering our entire dining room set. It is a major job but we are having so much fun working on it together! I thought it was going to be our fall project. . .but it is starting to look like I severely underestimated how much time it would take and I think it’ll be a winter project too.

The bathroom reno – switching out the tub for a walk in shower to improve accessibility.
Jill Campbell says
TALK TO ME!
Projects? Where do I start?
Master Bathroom: From addition done in early 2008. It is still just a corner tub and sub-flooring (although we did paint the room earlier this year so we felt we were doing SOMETHING on it). Needs tile, tile and more tile, a toilet, vanity, double sinks. We actually have all of the faucets and lighting (sitting in closet since 2008).
Daughter’s Bedroom: She just turned 2, but going on 5. Getting rid of her Snuggle Bugs baby stuff this weekend at our yard sale and putting in “big girl” furniture (except for the crib. She’s staying in that for as long as we can keep her there).
Other projects:
Front Yard: Kill it, pull dying bushes from front of house, put in LawnBelt and start over with new seed and bushes.
Dining Room: Build a Bar along the wall (in this large room with vaulted ceiling) for entertaining and so room doesn’t look bare.
Kitchen: Replace cabinets, countertops and linoleum floor
As soon as we win the VA Lottery, we’ll get started on these.
Pam says
TALK TO ME – I have so many projects that in midstream, including finishing the upstairs bathroom. It’s nice from the waist up now – new tile surround, faucets, paint, light fixtures, art, etc. Sink, vanity, toilet, floor and tub all need attention.
Thomas G. says
TALK TO ME! Next home project will most likely be our second bathroom… but it’s going to have to wait until we figure out taking care of our soon to be here baby :-)
