Thanks to random.org’s very arbitrary matchmaking skills, our winner is… Lawren (whose favorite wedding moment was when her cousin’s pocketed dress stored tissues to hand the groom when he teared up during the vows). Congrats!
Hope everyone’s having an awesome Fourth of July. We’re enjoying some family time but wanted to drop in with this week’s giveaway, so here ya go. Thursday marks our 4th wedding anniversary, which typically would make this “Wedding Week” around here. But since there’s not much left of that dead horse to beat (we’ve already shared every last detail about our wedding, honeymoon, traditions, how we met, how we got engaged, and our favorite meaningful momentos), we’re gonna go light on the theme this time around. Don’t get me wrong, the last year has been awesome and we’re planning something sweet to celebrate the beginning of year five (nothing big, but we’ll share whatever we end up doing). Feel free to take a trip down memory lane by checking out a recap of our $4,000 DIY backyard ceremony or browsing old Wedding Week posts from the last three years if you’re feeling sentimental though.
And since this turned into sort of a “Not” Wedding Week, we figured it was the perfect time to do a giveaway with The Not Wedding. They’re a self-described “killer alternative to a bridal show” where you attend a mock ceremony, sit down dinner, and dance-filled reception all in the name of having fun and checking out vendors. Basically you get to experience music, food, cake (mmmm cake) and other wedding must haves in a real-ish wedding setting. This year’s “big day” is on July 21st and two tickets (which include dinner, drinks, and dessert) are up for grabs this week.
But knowing that not everyone can get to Georgia on two weeks notice, The Not Wedding is also hooking the winner up with a $150 gift card to their registry sponsor Bloomingdale’s. Plus, you’ll win a pearl bridal bracelet and hair flower fascinator (in white or ivory) from their accessory sponsor (Fine & Fleurie). Which adds up to over $300 of wedding-tastic swag. Or should I say not wedding-tastic swag? Hmm. Either way… score.
- PRIZE: Two tickets to The Not Wedding, a $150 Bloomingdales gift card, plus a bracelet & hair flower from Fine & Fleurie
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “NOT ME!” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us your favorite part about a wedding that was NOT yours. Did a particular family member have an especially touching ceremony? Did your best friend cry or laugh at your killer toast? Maybe your college friend simultaneously had you drooling over her location, dress, and decor? Or – be honest – is it just the time your work friend had an awesome open bar?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, July 6th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Anywhere in the world!
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winners. Good luck…
Note: We weren’t paid or perked to host this giveaway, we just like rewarding our lovely readers. See our Giveaway FAQs page for more info. Pics from The Not Wedding, Bloomingdales and Fine & Fleurie.

My favorite part of a wedding that was not mine…..HMMMMM, it had to be at my best friend’s wedding on the Truckee River in Truckee, California, when after she read her vows, her groom forgot to bring his beautiful, touching, hand written vows and simple said “Sarah, I promise to love you. I do.”

I went to a wedding in Guatemala a few years ago. Around midnight, right as the party was dying down, the father of the bride brought in a mariachi band and the waiters brought out little shots of tomato soup and tequila to get things kickin’ again. It worked! The band was fun, the soup was delicious, and the tequila… well, it’s tequila– you get the point!

My favorite part of our wedding was when my Uncle, the Minister, was the first one in the room to choke up as he was pronouncing us right at the end of the ceremony. I worked so hard to stay tough up until that point, then I totally cried. Our pictures comeing back down the aisle are so funny.

I’m really looking forward to a friend’s wedding that will happen in October – they are having dueling pianos for the reception, which will not only be awesome and entertaining but will be a nice change of pace from the usual DJ.

NOT ME! My favorite wedding was my friend Courtneys. The flowers were gorgeous and the altar at the church was covered in candles. It was beautiful and created a really intimate vibe for a large wedding.

My favorite weddings are always outdoor ceremonies where the weather is perfect…June in Traverse City on a hill top winery, perfect. End of July in a park, middle of Ohio, sweating to death.

Not me! My favorite wedding memory that was not from my own big day was when the father of the bride surprised his daughter with a song he had written for her to that was performed by the band for the father/ daughter dance. So sweet!

NOT ME! My favorite part of a wedding in which I was the Maid of Honor was when the DJ announced that “the next song was for someone very special” and “Come On Eileen” started playing. I looked around for someone named Eileen… and then remembered it was my name. And screamed. Call me spacey. :)
Oh and did I mention I’m getting married on the 23rd? ^_^

One of the most memorable weddings I have been at was my husband’s cousins. It was in Jamaica which is where we got married 7 years prior. So going on a trip there to see them get married was like reliving our own!

My favorite wedding memory was when my Aunt got married for the first time at 64 years old! She’d been dreaming about this day her entire life and the joy that emanated from her face on that day was priceless. Her and her new husband tearing up the dance floor with literally 90% of their guests at the dinner reception was pretty memorable too :D

My favorite part of my cousins wedding was when 10 men in suits came out at midnight with “Crave Cases”. For anyone that doesn’t have a White Castle, it’s the best late night snack after a night of drinking.

My favorite part of a friend’s wedding was her Chicago Bears themed wedding cake. Her husband had wanted the day to be perfect for her and let her plan every detail the way she had dreamed, so it was sweet she planned a chicago bears themed cake (his favorite team) as a surprise.

My favorite part of a wedding is watching the family photo session after the ceremony. My husband and I linger after the vows and sit back and enjoy watching the newly married couple capture the memory with their families. They are surrounded by family and loved ones and hopefully a bit more relaxed before celebrating the night away!

NOT ME! I loved that my sister and brother-in-law had a Christian comedian perform their ceremony. Only the wedding party could hear all the jokes he was cracking, and we were dying up there. And it was short and sweet.

OK, so honestly, I’m getting married on August 27, 2011, and I’m probably a “typical” bride in that I’m doing things fairly “traditionally”. Part of that is just my style, and part of it is to shut my mom up. Awful, right?
I’m most looking forward to the cake – layered cheesecake and red velvet cake with whipped cream frosting….yum! Oh, and I supposed getting married! :)

My friend Hannah had the best wedding reception ever and I’m not going to lie, it all came down to a top-shelf, completely open bar (truly a rarity here in the Bible Belt). She also had a fantastic jazz trio. The marriage sadly fell apart, but she is getting married again (to a ridiculously great guy this time) in three weeks and I am so pumped to be there for round two!

My dear friends were married this past October and rented a house for the whole week prior that they and many of their friends stayed in. My boyfriend and I were among the first to arrive and spent the whole week catching up, chilling on the beach and helping them make the wedding happen. Also the pirate cake toppers at the same wedding. Yar!

My favorite part about a wedding we just went to was that the bride was a little older so she had all the ladies come up (not just the single ones – so they weren’t “singled out”) and they gave gift cards for whoever caught the bouquet and the garter.

I love the uber-expensive photography and videography sessions on the web and from some of my friend’s weddings. We were on a budget, so we have no video, and our photos were done by a friend. He is a professional photographer who donated his time, but because it was an informal arrangement I didn’t realize until after the wedding that we could have done much more fun pictures, had I talked to him about it before hand.

I’m in Atlanta, so I would love to attend the Not Wedding :) I have a lot of favorite ideas from friends’ weddings, but one of the greatest was my friends who had an 80’s cover band for the reception (fully decked-out). They were so good and so much fun!
