Literally- it does. Hear me out for a minute. A couple of weeks ago we posted about our new Bissell vacuum, which virtually swept us off our feet (and actually sucked stuff off our floors). Well, thanks to the magic of the Interweb, that post actually caught the eye of the kind folks over at Bissell and after a few emails back and forth… tah dah! We managed to sweet talk them into a YHL giveaway. So now one lucky reader gets the chance to win their very own Bissell Cleanview Helix Bagless Vacuum Cleaner to help them spruce up every nook and cranny of their casa. Nice, right?
We’re psyched that Bissell’s helping us share this HEPA-filterin’, 12-amp powerin’, multi-surface settin’, pet hair suckin’ and lightweight cleanin’ love with one of you. And if your house is home to a canine or a feline with a bit more fur than our bald-bellied Burger, this little bonus prize might come in handy too: they’re throwing in a Bissell’s Pet Hair Broom for our big winner as well.
Even if you don’t find yourself sweeping up much pet hair, the broom’s rubber bristles (which attract fur like a magnet) are retractable for your normal sweep jobs. So here’s how you can get your paws on this prize set which- thanks to the broom- technically doesn’t completely suck.
- PRIZE: A Bissell 82H1 Cleanview Helix Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner and Pet Hair Broom
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CLEAN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about any of your spring cleaning rituals that are already underway in your house (or any that you might be diving into soon). Getting the garden ready? Washing all the windows? Taking us up on our closet cleaning party? Spill it.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 10th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Home to the world’s best and second-best hockey teams (that’s Canada and the US, fyi)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

CLEAN ME
The spring project that I’ll be starting isn’t cleaning but building a desk into a little nook in my apartment. The only place I can do all the cuts is outside, so it’s much more appealing now that the snow is (hopefully) gone for good!

Mmm, vacuumy goodness. CLEAN ME would make for such a nice vacuuming experience, though I say this for the husband since he is generally the vacuum-er, or so I like to convince myself.
I have to say, I’ve taken a small hiatus from your site. About a week ago I was lurking at IKEA hacker and I’m fairly sure that is where I was directed to Young House Love from. The writing style was calm, happy and house-stuff! So I flipped back to the beginning of the book (archives) and began reading. And then didn’t stop up until this weekend when I figured out I had not done much during my week off from school. So I had to close the browser and work on homework. It has been an entertaining journey though. So in the interest of catching up properly: Wow, those widened doors look great! Puppy! Fantastico wedding, large get-togethers done well with little details that don’t have to cost the earth make me happier than a happy thing. All the stuff in between that I totally laughed, gaped, jaw-dropped, read between then and now. CONGRATULATIONS! Ever so many happy wishes on the new little one and the ever continuing adventure. I plan to stop in every now and again, even if I’m not procrastinating (which I tend to be).
Thanks.

My fiance and I are moving into our first home this coming Friday. I am so glad I came across your site and already plan on using many of your tips and tricks into making our new house a home.
One ritual I hope to start soon is by purging all the closets/cabinets/drawers every season and getting rid of clutter and unused items. All these things can either be thrown away or hopefully donated to someone who wants or really needs them!

I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s see…Spring Cleaning began last week with plans to sort through boxes and closets and moved to a weekend of journal entries, prayers and meditation. My conclusion was I needed to freshen up my surroundings, instill more fun and liveliness around me and find more reasons to celebrate. (i.e. Celebrate my home and being proud of it!)
By Monday morning, I discovered a blessing in disguise. A neighbor’s frozen pipes (I own a condo) which flooded my dining room and living several weeks ago was going to end up earning me new insulation, dry wall, carpet and paint. Thank God for insurance and opportunity. Hours an later, I joked with colleagues about selecting a lime green similar to the color sweater I had on today and once I was home I began surfing the web. On your wonderful site, I found exactly the look and feel I had in my heart and mind.(http://images.younghouselove.com.s3.amazonaws.com/2009/06/green-living-room-walls.jpg) Thank you for your suggestions! By the end of this week, my light and fresh paint job will be complete and I should be well on my way to tackling the sorting, donating and decorating I’ve been planning all winter!
The excitement is hard to contain. :) Thanks again for your part!
p.s. I’ve already shared your site with several friends. Keep up the great work!

So far this is the least spring-cleaning-y spring I have had to date, simply because we’re in a tiny little apartment just waiting to see if we can close on a HOUSE! Once that happens, I will be scrubbing every corner like a madwoman, wearing a bandana like a pirate, and wishing for a Bissel Cleanview Helix vacuum to CLEAN ME carpets!!! Arrrr.

Spring cleaning? We still have snow here! I don’t think of cleaning until I start to see the leaves growing back on the trees, hehe.

I have a whole basement-ful of stuff waiting for me! Ugh.
Cameron says
CLEAN ME! My big spring cleaning projects are usually a closet clean-out (where does all that stuff come from?!) and a back yard overhaul (didn’t I weed this spot last year?!). Which means lots of dusty junk and muddy, dirty feet. And our vacuum is pit-i-ful, so I would use the heck outta this! Thanks for sponsoring the giveaway!

We just planted seeds for our garden yesterday. This is new for us. We have always just bought the plants so hopefully the seeds grow ok.
I also have been purging our office and my daughter’s bedrooms. I have donated so much and it feels good to have some clean and organized rooms.
Thanks for the chance…keeping my fingers crossed :)

I like to go through the closets and dressers eliminating items that haven’t been used in recent history, re-organizing the dresser drawers and closets to make the warm-weather clothing most accessible, and the millions of layers now take a backseat. I like to go through storage closets to streamline and organize towels, sheets, blankets. I like to make sure all the blankets and guest towels are clean smell fresh, so sometimes I’ll air them out, or sometimes I’ll wash them again and air dry. I also like to clean all the baseboards, spot clean any phantom stains in the carpet that have emerged, polish silver decorative items, and rotate in some “long-lost” spring decor. Lastly, I like to start seeds for things like herbs and lettuce, and hope that some of them survive and thrive enough to use… My brown thumb is turning into a khaki or olive green thumb. :)

Clean Me!! Whoa- at the time that I am writing this, there are over 3 thousand comments! I bet the likelihood that I win this are very small, as in 3 thousand to one. But I digress. Since this is the first time I have a house of my own- spring cleaning is still waiting. I have to figure out what the best way to clean rubber backed curtains. hmmm…

We are planning our wedding, trying to finish the remodeling due to water damage (still) and doing the usual spring window washing and de-cluttering. Also want to get three rooms painted this spring/summer and 4 pieces of furniture need a freshener. All in all, a somewhat normal year for us, but still busy! Any one want to help?

Clean Me!! Now that the weather is getting warmer and spring is in the air, I am also warming up to a clean house. I am organizing room to room, getting rid of clutter. I am making a run to the local Goodwill to deposit any items that we no longer need in the house. Next, I like to clean the windows and get the winters grime off the outside.
