Literally- it does. Hear me out for a minute. A couple of weeks ago we posted about our new Bissell vacuum, which virtually swept us off our feet (and actually sucked stuff off our floors). Well, thanks to the magic of the Interweb, that post actually caught the eye of the kind folks over at Bissell and after a few emails back and forth… tah dah! We managed to sweet talk them into a YHL giveaway. So now one lucky reader gets the chance to win their very own Bissell Cleanview Helix Bagless Vacuum Cleaner to help them spruce up every nook and cranny of their casa. Nice, right?
We’re psyched that Bissell’s helping us share this HEPA-filterin’, 12-amp powerin’, multi-surface settin’, pet hair suckin’ and lightweight cleanin’ love with one of you. And if your house is home to a canine or a feline with a bit more fur than our bald-bellied Burger, this little bonus prize might come in handy too: they’re throwing in a Bissell’s Pet Hair Broom for our big winner as well.
Even if you don’t find yourself sweeping up much pet hair, the broom’s rubber bristles (which attract fur like a magnet) are retractable for your normal sweep jobs. So here’s how you can get your paws on this prize set which- thanks to the broom- technically doesn’t completely suck.
- PRIZE: A Bissell 82H1 Cleanview Helix Bagless Upright Vacuum Cleaner and Pet Hair Broom
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “CLEAN ME” and…
- BONUS QUESTION: … tell us about any of your spring cleaning rituals that are already underway in your house (or any that you might be diving into soon). Getting the garden ready? Washing all the windows? Taking us up on our closet cleaning party? Spill it.
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, March 10th at 8pm EST
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: Home to the world’s best and second-best hockey teams (that’s Canada and the US, fyi)
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday. Good luck!

Really, I don’t have any spring cleaning rituals. I just go about doing things as they pop into my mind. I do, however, have a huge 110 lb. Malamute/Chow Chow mix, who has an incredible amount of fur. Case in point – we took him to the groomer yesterday, and after he came home, I still brushed about 2 or 3 softball sized condensed balls of fur off him before giving up and going to bed. (It was late at night by that time, I didn’t go to bed mid-afternoon.)
I need this sucky prize!! :)

This will be only the second spring we’ve spent in our house, so we haven’t quite settled into a routine yet. Definitely need to clean the windows and start a flower garden. Also on our to-do list is refinish the deck before baby comes at the end of October.
On a side note, I’m eagerly following your nursery plans for a few ideas we can put to use in our own home. Keep up the great work you two.

CLEAN ME!
Every spring I start by opening the windows. It doesn’t seem like it would be a big difference but it totally starts my cleaning engines running. Then I start in the garage. Usually over the winter it has accumulated a ton of stuff that really doesn’t need to live there. After that I move from closet to closet doing a general organization and clean out. (this takes a few weeks) and then finally on one glorious weekend I call “all hands on deck” and the entire family scrubs the place. At the end of that weekend I sit down on the couch, windows open, breathing the wonderful fresh air…and order a pizza.

My first favorite spring cleaning ritual is to open all the the windows in the house on that first warm sunny day. It’s like clearing the winter “karma” from the house and letting in all that springy freshness. In Ohio that doesn’t usually happen ’til the end of April. Then I blast the tunes and start cleaning every dusty nook and cranny. Can’t wait!!

I live alone in an apartment that always ends up being the dinner/drinks/make a hot mess spot for my group of friends… Right now I’m still purging my home of Mardi Gras beads and recyclable containers!

Clean me! Spring cleaning usually consists of whatever my wife tells me needs to be cleaned.
Alicia says
CLEAN ME!! I just got done cleaning out closets/organizing our entire house!!

CLEAN ME!! I’m think I’m going to start cleaning windows – I hardly ever do it so I’m sure it’s time!
Sara says
CLEAN ME!!! We always start our Spring cleaning with a general organizing of the storage spaces like the garage and workshop area. That way you can easily do some touch up painting and other small projects as you do your spring cleaning.

I have many plants in my house, my two largest floor plants being a fiddle-leaf fig and bird of paradise palm. Given their large size, the first thing I do when it’s warm is take them outside and give them a bath! No better way to dust indoor floor plants – just take ’em out and hose ’em down!
Heather B. says
CLEAN ME! We just moved from a mostly-hardwoods bungalow, to a colonial home with more carpet than I would like. Our poor old vacuum can’t keep up! Not sure how much spring cleaning I’ll get done with a new baby & 3 year old – but we are about to freshen up the place with some new paint if that counts!
LeeAnna says
Clean me!! There is always a cleaning party going on at our house. With five children(three boys), either they trash it, wear it out(where it is begging to go in the trash), or just get tired of it. The donation drop off, is in our normal route, and the garbage men probably are wondering when will it stop.
Cori Jessy says
CLEAN ME …please! This is the first time we’ve ever lived in a house with all wood floors, so the need to vacuum and sweep is pertinent. All the time. This would make it so much more enjoyable!
Rachel Hawks says
CLEAN ME!! Ahhh…..spring cleaning. Shampooing the carpets! With two very active dogs there is constantly a need for getting rid of the nastiness they bring into our home! So that’s where we begin!
Mary says
CLEAN ME! I started with a closet clean out and have a big box of things ready to donate, which feels so great! Next is to tidy up the pots and pans in the kitchen.
Thanks!

I plan on rearranging the living room furniture and getting all those dust bunnies swept up. While the furniture isi n the middle of the room, I plan on touching up all my white baseboards after I vacuum then, then tackle the white wood blinds with the vacuum.

Now that it’s getting and staying lighter, we’re more motivated to do work in and around the house. Next up is tackling a re-arranging of the kitchen cabinets!

CLEAN ME! Now that winter is over – knock on wood – it’s time to clean out my car. The floor is covered with tiny pieces of dead leaves, dirt, salt, trash, a mateless mitten, toys, etc. The kids’ carseats need to come out for a good cleaning and the entire interior needs a good vaccum and wipe down. After that, driving around with the windows down will feel wonderful!

Oh my goodness I can so use a new vacuum…and the pet hair broom to boot, who knew they had something so great…I am constantly sweeping up pet hair!
I try to do the whole Fly Lady thing, her ideas are great, but they never work very well for me. I have my own system that has worked for years..and right now we are going through closets and cabinets, organizing and throwing things away, then it is off to clean picture frames for dust we missed ion our regular cleaning.
Meagan says
CLEAN ME!! When spring cleaning time comes around I usually get the decorating bug so I pick the room that needs some help in both departments. Once the room is picked and I have an idea on how to change it for the better I like to give it an all over scrub down. Windows walls doors floors and all. I love when a room feels completely clean and decorated.

I am on a mission to finish my Spring cleaning BEFORE the first day of Spring so I’ll be free to enjoy the weather! For the past two weeks, I’ve been cleaning out junk drawers, catching up on organizing files in my office, shredding papers, and boxing up donations of clothes I’ve *ahem* outgrown. ;-)

We’re in the process of moving to a new apartment, so it has forced us to start the purging early. Moving makes you evaluate all the things you actually need and whether they’re worth moving. We’re trying to become better minimalists. My husband realized he doesn’t need all the DVD and video game cases, so he put all the discs in a small organizer the size of a shoebox.

Clean Me. . .
We are working on renovating our old home so spring cleaning is maybe an understatement for what is going on in our home right now. We finally unpacked or stored away all of our boxes. Our March projects include installing closet doors at long last, building entryway furniture and adding a drop ceiling in our currently ceiling-less basement. Other than that I am on a mission to conquer the hair problem we have from our constantly shedding black lab.

I’ve had this vacuum on my shopping list ever since I read your great review of it!
I don’t have a specific “Spring” cleaning plan of attack, but I did recently put together a spreadsheet of all the rooms in our house and all the things that need to be cleaned in each room and how often. Then I marked my Google calendar with my new cleaning schedule, so now I always know when it’s time to clean!

I don’t know if it counts as “spring cleaning” but the hubby and I are cleaning out our spare bedroom, aka dumping ground for anything random, to convert it into a nursery! Gender-neutral is the name of the game since our little bundle will be bringing a surprise with him/her in July!

CLEAN ME! We clean the windows and blinds (my husband does that) I clean the baseboards, doors and cabinets with warm soapy water. Oh how I love spring cleaning!

This will be my first spring in my new home! I do not have any rituals yet but my first step will be to find something new to clean my hardwood floors, my brand new vacuum does nothing! I also plan on re-organizing all of my toiletries and trying to use up all of the good smelling soap I have accumulated(nearly 15 bars) but never used.
Elaine Mills says
CLEAN ME! With 3 kids under the age of 8 at home, my spring cleaning starts with some serious purging! I can usually convince the two older ones to help me pick some toys that they nolonger play with to donate, and then I go through and toss yucky/broken/missing pieces etc., sneak some extra toys to donate or give to deserving friends, and pack toys away that my 2 year old might use later on. It pays off in a big way once their shelves, cubbies and closets are all cleared out, because then they can keep their rooms clean themselves!

Spring cleaning – all I know is the windows have to be open! I buy scented green cleaning products like lavender, manderine, lemon, basil, etc. Stuff that SMELLS like Spring!
We sell stuff of craigslist and then take the rest to our local abuse shelters!

I just went through my cupboard and got rid of outdated food (some from 2008!!!). We are expecting a baby in June so we are also starting to clean out the guest room (kind of our junk room). We have already taken one car load to good will and it is still packed with stuff!
Maria says
CLEAN ME!
I usually start my cleaning in the garage and yard when it starts to warm up. Then I tackle the linen closets because they are just filled with junk or unused items. From here on out, if I bring something in, I have to donate an item that I don’t use. At least with that logic there is some sort of balance in the house. :o)
