Clearly I’m not the only one who loves a good writing utensil (and Target card) as this giveaway reached our 10,000 entry cap within just 24 hours. Nice work team! So that means we get to crown a winner early. That lucky writer is… Heather F (who “writes notes on the back of envelopes and then loses them. Argh.”) Congrats Heather!
This sounds kinda weird, but I’m very particular about my writing tools. So when the folks at Pilot noticed that we tend to write with their products, they wanted to thank us by passing some freebies along. But you know we don’t take them, so we’re paying it forward in the form of a $500 prize to one of you. Now, before you start figuring out what the heck you’re gonna do with $500 worth of pens – let me stop you. While they’ll keep your hands busy with a variety of pens and highlighters (even some erasable varieties) they’re also gonna let our lucky winner pick out $150 worth of Levenger notebooks and organizers (since we could all use a little organization this time of year). Oh, and to round out the $500 prize, how does a $200 Target gift card sound? That way you can pick up any other items you need to get 2013 off to a productive and organized start.
- PRIZE: An assortment of Pilot products plus $150 towards the Levenger notebooks of your choice and a $200 Target gift card (total value $500).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PILOT ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … your favorite way to take notes or scribble down a message. Do you always keep a ballpoint pen in your pocket or purse? Do you swear by pencils so that you can erase your misspellings? Or are you 100% digital and prefer to rely on phone apps and voice memos to keep you organized?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, January 16th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States and Canada.
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of

I use a mixture of analog and digital methods – kinda schizo, but it works!
Julie says
Pilot me! I always use the memo part of my phone, but I still jot things down on paper too. It seems like whenever I use paper I don’t have it with me when I need it…

Pilot Me! I have always jotted down notes or scribbles using a marker, caligraphy pen or foutain pen. A thicker line makes me feel more creative!
Amy says
PILOT ME! I LOVE LOVE LOVE writing lists! I make boxes next to each item and have a huge sense of accomplishment when I can check the box (I dont like crossing off because I still like seeing what I’ve already done…I have issues!). So I have pens everywhere – purses, diaper bag, silverware drawer, etc. You never know when you will have to add to the list!

I’m a post-it manager. It’s shameful. I have post reminders littered all over me desk and home.
Carolyn L says
PILOT ME!
I’m old fashioned–pen and paper work for me. I tend to write down random words from conversations, etc. and somehow remember exactly what was being discussed. When other people find my notes, they have no clue what happened!
christine says
PILOT ME! I always have a pen in my bag, but never paper. So I write myself notes on envelopes, receipts, and other things that are easy to lose.
essie says
PILOT ME! I am a list maker for sure and always jot down notes throughout the day on a long pad of paper (that can stick on the fridge) using a mechanical pencil!
Leah says
PILOT ME!!
I actually use pilot pens (especially for grading — nothing ruins grading more than bad pens, so I buy my own for faster scoring). I use pencils for stuff I need to erase or for writing out stuff for my students other than grading, but I use pilot pens for my writing. I keep around post-its, index cards, and notebooks for taking notes. I’d love to simplify to one all-around notebook that I carry around and put everything in. Sherry’s method is what I prefer, but I always fall off the bandwagon.
Kana says
PILOT ME!
I prefer to jot in pen or pencil, but typically end up taking notes on evernote on my android phone.

While I’ll put reeeeally important dates into my phone’s calendar, almost everything gets written down in my old-school, paper planner/organizer.
Rachel says
Pilot me! I love the pilot gel pens – had to move one to the diaper bag from my purse when baby was born.

PILOT ME!
I always steal red ballpoints from my Dad’s office ;)
Laura says
PILOT ME!
I always have 5+ pens in my purse, but my notepads always end up laying around the house somewhere, so most notes/reminders end up scribbled on the back of an old receipt. I still feel more comfortable making handwritten lists on old crumpled paper than I do using my iPhone!

I always keep multiple pens handy because you never know when an idea or though will come to you and I would forget without jotting it down. :)
Eric says
I tried taking notes digitally – but alas, I would always forget to actually look at the notes. Now I keep a small Moleskine and a pencil (and pen) on me at all times. So much easier!
The Girl @ POS says
PILOT ME! I tried to use my phone’s features but ultimately I just love to jot things down – in a planner or on a list. I just say NO to the pencil and keep a pen in my purse at all times.

I used to love a good hardcover notebook to make my to-do lists in back in the day… But now that I work for a technology company, I’m all about syncing my digital lists and notes to all my devices.

I heart the Pilot Precise Grip extra fine tip pens. Seriously, I stockpile them at home and at work. I take notes with them on notepads and post-its. I’m also fond of the Squarespace Note app for iPhone which sends notes directly to my email.
Diane says

Pens at work and home for note but I’m all digital when it comes to my calendar now!
Hilary says
Pilot me!!
I’m electronic all the way when I’m on the go, pens always seem to find a way to disappear in my monstrous purse!! At home, nothing beats an old-fashioned penned list. I’m a sucker for a good roller ball pen.
Angel says
PILOT ME!
My favorite way of taking important notes is scrawling them on the back of the nearest piece of paper (usually a torn envelope or receipt) and then promptly losing it.
