Clearly I’m not the only one who loves a good writing utensil (and Target card) as this giveaway reached our 10,000 entry cap within just 24 hours. Nice work team! So that means we get to crown a winner early. That lucky writer is… Heather F (who “writes notes on the back of envelopes and then loses them. Argh.”) Congrats Heather!
This sounds kinda weird, but I’m very particular about my writing tools. So when the folks at Pilot noticed that we tend to write with their products, they wanted to thank us by passing some freebies along. But you know we don’t take them, so we’re paying it forward in the form of a $500 prize to one of you. Now, before you start figuring out what the heck you’re gonna do with $500 worth of pens – let me stop you. While they’ll keep your hands busy with a variety of pens and highlighters (even some erasable varieties) they’re also gonna let our lucky winner pick out $150 worth of Levenger notebooks and organizers (since we could all use a little organization this time of year). Oh, and to round out the $500 prize, how does a $200 Target gift card sound? That way you can pick up any other items you need to get 2013 off to a productive and organized start.
- PRIZE: An assortment of Pilot products plus $150 towards the Levenger notebooks of your choice and a $200 Target gift card (total value $500).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PILOT ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … your favorite way to take notes or scribble down a message. Do you always keep a ballpoint pen in your pocket or purse? Do you swear by pencils so that you can erase your misspellings? Or are you 100% digital and prefer to rely on phone apps and voice memos to keep you organized?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, January 16th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States and Canada.
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of

At work, I’m constantly scribbling notes on Post-Its to myself – but I always have to transfer them to an electronic list, lest I misplace them!

I love gel pens and nice sharp pencils with a good eraser. Like others have said – making a list and ticking off items is quite satisfying!
Eric H says
PILOT ME!
I still use pen and paper for notes and have been trying a variety of pens (currently using the Sharpie non-bleeding fine tip pens).
For online notes I use the website workflowy.com. Best outlining system I have ever used!

PILOT ME!
At work, I still have to write things down and it has to be with a pen (no pencil or whiteout in GMP environment). At home, I use phone memo apps or Excel spreadsheets to make lists or save ideas for projects and renovations.

Pilot me!! Babe
I always carry a pen just lost my fave so sad. I prefer writing notes lists in my handy note pad I never got into using my note pad on my phone it’s been easier for me although could save lots of paper. Lately I’ve been using old envelopes

Pilot Me!
I still get way more satisfaction from crossing an item off my written to-do than checking the digit box any day. I stock up on cute note pads in the $ aisle and use whatever ballpoint I have around.

PILOT ME!
Best way for me is a yellow post-it and a black Pilot G-2. All about the hand-written thinking. I bought my husband his own G-2s, taped his name to the ink cartidge on the inside, and still ended up stealing all of them for myself…
Karen says

I gave up my paper calendar, but not my paper notes and to-do lists. Some things are sacred!

PILOT ME!
I live for post-it notes all over my desk. During my last year of grad school, though, I went on a kick where I HAD to take notes in purple pen and use a yellow highlighter. It was so random, but hey- I graduated, so it worked!
Laura says

I keep journals and always jot in them with whatever writing utensil I can find. They are normally dried up. Ugh. The victims of a rabid, note-taking, story writing, journaling fanatic.

I’ve mostly converted to lists on my iPhone, but for some reason I still write out a list of food and things I need to get done every time we have people over to our house. Something about physically crossing things off is always satisfying!

Marlena says
PILOT ME!
I always carry a pen and at least a scrap of paper with my. I love writing with Sharpie fine-points for cards and prefer a thin felt tip pen for work notes, etc.
Jessica says
Pilot me! I’m a huge fan of evernote. But I’m also an extensive list maker… so I keep 2 notebooks in my purse. (Tiny ones.) One is for work, when I get ideas and stuff. The other is for home related projects. I also swear by my momagenda planner for scheduling all those list projects. As a side note, clearly pilot is the best maker of pens. I thought I was a little odd for only using those, but then my boss had an outburst when someone offered her a pen… it was a bic and she yelled “don’t you dare give me a bic! You know I only use pilot!!” (Should also mention it was her husband she yelled at lest you think she’s completely crazy.)
Amber Hoffherr says
PILOT ME! I love fancy pens w/ fancy paper.
An says
Pilot Me!
I only write with fine-point pens and .5mm pencils. Need to physically write things down sometimes and always carry a pen even though I have plenty of apps that are just as useful.

In the same way you can categorize emails, I like to categorize my hand-written notes, with different colored flags.

I by far prefer to hand write. Phone writing is not fast enough to get my thoughts down. I started keeping my calendar in my phone and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. I love having a little planner in my purse that is always available.
Linda says
Use both pen and electronic….would love the Target cards especially since they are going to open in Canada soon!!!!
Cassidy says
Pilot me! I use a Pilot G-2 07 (nerd alert) and a moleskin for every day lists. I also have a pocket agenda calendar for dates and appointments.
Amanda M says
PILOT ME! My husband and I are both English majors still working our way through college/grad school so our house is littered with pens and notebooks, spirals and sticky notes and whenever one of us has a god thought or meets an interesting “character” on the go we text ourselves :)
Kathryn says
Pilot me! i love me some G-2 Gel pens and use them in alternating colors on my lists. it makes easier to
not over look anything on the list.

Pilot me! I need a better system. Right now it’s scraps of paper that often get lost.

Kat @ The House Necessity Built says
PILOT ME!
I’m a writer. I have notebooks and attached pens hiding all over the house, in every drawer or next to every table or bed. I scribble using a pen and because it’s faster for me, when inspiration strikes, to just cross out my mistakes and keep writing.
Meghan P says
PILOT ME! At work I use any BLUE ink – it makes me happier than black ink. At home I use every other color – orange, green, pink….
