Clearly I’m not the only one who loves a good writing utensil (and Target card) as this giveaway reached our 10,000 entry cap within just 24 hours. Nice work team! So that means we get to crown a winner early. That lucky writer is… Heather F (who “writes notes on the back of envelopes and then loses them. Argh.”) Congrats Heather!
This sounds kinda weird, but I’m very particular about my writing tools. So when the folks at Pilot noticed that we tend to write with their products, they wanted to thank us by passing some freebies along. But you know we don’t take them, so we’re paying it forward in the form of a $500 prize to one of you. Now, before you start figuring out what the heck you’re gonna do with $500 worth of pens – let me stop you. While they’ll keep your hands busy with a variety of pens and highlighters (even some erasable varieties) they’re also gonna let our lucky winner pick out $150 worth of Levenger notebooks and organizers (since we could all use a little organization this time of year). Oh, and to round out the $500 prize, how does a $200 Target gift card sound? That way you can pick up any other items you need to get 2013 off to a productive and organized start.
- PRIZE: An assortment of Pilot products plus $150 towards the Levenger notebooks of your choice and a $200 Target gift card (total value $500).
- TO ENTER: Comment on this post with the words “PILOT ME!” and tell us…
- BONUS QUESTION: … your favorite way to take notes or scribble down a message. Do you always keep a ballpoint pen in your pocket or purse? Do you swear by pencils so that you can erase your misspellings? Or are you 100% digital and prefer to rely on phone apps and voice memos to keep you organized?
- GIVEAWAY CLOSES: Wednesday, January 16th at 8pm EST or at 10,000 entries (whichever comes first)
- NUMBER OF WINNERS: One
- PRIZE SHIPS: We always beg every vendor to ship internationally but some companies are not legally able to vend things beyond specific areas (more on that here). This giveaway is open to the United States and Canada.
- USUAL STUFF: One entry per e-mail address is permitted. The winner will be selected using random.org and announced on Thursday as an update to this post. That’s right, come right back here on Thursday for the announcement of our winner. Good luck…

Note: We aren’t paid or perked for hosting these giveaways, we just do ‘em to thank you awesome folks for stopping in. See our Giveaway FAQ page for more info. Pics courtesy of

My favorite way to take a note is with my pen I special ordered. It is bright pink so none of the guys in my office will steal it!
Kim says
Pilot me!
I still write quick notes on my hand.
Kim says
PILOT ME! I’m a pretty digital girl, but I love the feel of a good pen on good quality paper. There’s nothing on my computer that matches that.
Kelsey M. says
PILOT ME!! I take notes by pens (usually gel pen) and use a TON of Post-Its that I then post all over the house depending on what it is that I need to remember. If it is to call someone back, I put one by the phone, groceries- on the door so as I go out I have it ready to go, and random quotes to keep me inspired or encouraged- on my bathroom mirror.

I usually scribble notes down on some note paper.
Jamie H says

It’s pen and paper all the way for me!

PILOT ME! I used to live by the Post It note but, more recently, I have been leaning more on my Google calendar for scheduling and reminders.

I read recently that writing in blue ink helps you retain information better, so I’m totally on a blue ink kick! Pen of choice is the Signo Uniball 207…and now I have outed myself as a pen geek. :)

My favorite writing utensil is the Pilot G-2. I’ve been loyal since elementary, at least.
Michelle says
Pilot Me! I’m all about a good smooth pen and a monthly calendar to remember all my appointments, dates, vacations, etc. I like having a notebook-sized calendar to jot down my events :) I still don’t trust my phone–what if I lose it, it breaks, I forget it at home, etc. :)
Liz Swarthout says
PILOT ME! I like to write in pen, never pencil. And I try to type up my notes after class – using a computer in class distracts me too much, but it’s so much easier to search through notes on the computer!

Now that I have an iPhone, I keep trying to make it a habit to use that but somehow I still rely on good ol’ fashion post-it notes and (always) a pen.
Meghan Banke says
I love notebooks! I constantly keep a notebook with me at all times and usually write notes, lists and messages with colored ink (preferably purple, pink, or green)!
Katy says
Pilot me! I am completely obsessed with stationary products, so I always have a pen and paper handy to jot down a note.
Merideth says
PILOT ME! I love to write in purple ink the best, but I tend to grab whatever is available since writing utensils tend to disappear in a house with 4 kids. In that instance, I really on the trusty note section of my phone :)
Jenn Sullivan says
PILOT ME!
Pens and Post-its all the way!
Katie Donnelly says
PILOT ME! I’m a teacher.. pencils are my best friend.. things are always changing! Grading papers is always done in a green pen though :)
Jesse Lee says
Pilot me! I love making lists so I always have a pen and pad handy.
Annalea says
PILOT ME!!!! Pretty pretty please! :o)
I love high quality, recycled paper . . . not white, but something soft-colored and neutral. Colored pens (I really like gel ink), to write, doodle, sketch & brainstorm.
I do rely on the ol’ iPhone for calendar and some lists, but for home-based stuff, swoon-worthy paper & plenty of creativity is where it’s at. ;o)

PILOT ME! I’m transitioning to digital since getting my first smartphone recently.
Lisa @ Floating Along... says
Pilot me!! I am also *very* particular about my writing tools. I use a combination, due to whatever OCD-ness relates to the task at hand :) I keep all appointments, reminders, important dates etc in my Google Calendar so they aren’t forgotten and are easily seen at any given time. I also love how the iPhone integrates my personal and work calendars to avoid any potential conflicts! I use pencil to write my daily to-do list, as it is always changing. And I use blue ball-point pens for everything else. So, bring on the gift cards!! :)
Lisa says
PILOT ME! I love pens… one of my favorites is a Rotring 4-color from Levenger (red and blue ball points, a highlighter and mechanical pencil). How they fit all of those into one barrel, I will never know.
Amy says
PILOT ME! (please!)
I’m about 50% digital and 50% pen/paper these days.
Elizabeth says
PILOT ME! Oh, I am super particular about writing instruments, too. And Pilot pens are my favorite! I do most of my list-keeping on the Mac Things app, but there’s nothing more satisfying than writing an old fashioned list on a piece of good notebook paper and marking items off one by one.
Alex says
Pilot me!
I’m old school, gotta have paper and pen. Much more satisfy to write it and physically cross something off a list.
Mim says
PILOT ME! Pen and any scrap of paper works for me!
Annie says
PILOT ME!
I love a pad of paper and a nice pen.
Kristen says
Pilot me! As a teacher, I have tons of lists. For home stuff, like long-term to-do lists, I usually use my phone. But at school I have a notebook (all cute and personalized) that has a calendar and a ton of pages for my daily and weekly to-do lists, written of course in tons of fabulous colors!
Mary Lynch says
PILOT ME!!! I keep a pen in my purse and in my car. BUT, as a Math nerd, nothing beats a newly sharpened pencil!
Julie C. says
Pilot me!! I used to be a pen and daily planner girl, but I upgraded to a Palm planner in the early 2000s and have since switched to my notes app on my Android. How times have changed!

Pilot G-2 pens are seriously my favorite writing instrument ever!! I carry 2-3 in my purse at all times and buy them in bulk (not that I let anyone walk away with them, even my husband). At any given moment whether I am at my desk at work or home, in the car or on the go, there is ALWAYS one in reach :)
-signed, sadly pathethic reader obsessed with her pens.

Being a former teacher, I have a thing for good pens. Being a former physics teacher, I really have a thing for good pencils. My favorite pencil? Papermate Clearpoint.
Is it weird I have a favorite? Probably.
