After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Julie says
FABRIC ME!
I have an especially long (and complicated) last name that almost no one pronounces correctly. No biggie! My parents decided my siblings and I were to have simpler first names to balance things out. So there ya go…
Corrinne says
FABRIC ME
My knew I was going to be a boy, or so they thought. My name was supposed to be Bryan Wesley. They came up with my name on the spur of the moment.

FABRIC ME! My mom just liked the name Jennifer. My middle name, Marie, is my grandmother’s name.
Gennie S. says
Fabric Me! My full name is Geneva which is a combination of my two grandmothers’ names, Gen (short for Genevieve) and Neva. My nickname is pronounced like Jenny and I wished when I was younger that mine was spelled more conventionally because I hated it when people pronounced it like genii.
Amanda says
Fabric me! My name means worthy of love. My parents told me they were going to name me Jennifer until my mom saw me for the first time and said, “there’s my Amanda Sue”.
Amy says
Fabric me!
My first name has no special meaning – Amy was just very popular in the seventies! My middle name, however, was given to me to honor my maternal grandmother and paternal great-grandmother. They both had the name Katherine, but spelled different ways, so my mother combined the spellings to pay tribute to both. (Kathryn + Catherine = Katherine) I did the same for my first born daughter, and combined them a different way (Kathryn + Catherine = Cathryn).

Katie M. says
FABRIC ME!
Tara W. says
Fabric Me! My mother was so undecided as to what to name me right up until the moment I was born and actually had the name Caitlin originally on my birth certificate. When my grandmother came to the hospital to visit she said “she is a ‘Tara’ after my favorite movie Gone With The Wind” and so my name was changed!
Jess says
Fabric me! Even though Jessica was a pretty popular name for the early 80’s, my parents especially loved it after the Allman Brothers song.
Dede says
FABRIC ME! My given name was Diana Davis, but I’ve always been called Dede because of the first letter of my first and last name.

Fabric me!
My first name is Susan, nothing particularly cool about why my parents picked it other than to agree that Lisa, the name they had chosen during my mom’s pregnancy, did not seem to suit me once they met me.
Erika says
Fabric me!
My dad wanted to name me after the country he served as a sailor. My parents are Puerto Rican but they both had dreams of living inland. My mother learned how to speak English by watching All My Children and her favorite character was Erica Kane. They removed the “Am-” in America and replaced the C with a K and there you go, that’s how they figured out my name.
Vera says
Fabric me!!
My name means truth, but the name doesn’t have particular significance to my parents. My dad says he wanted something short!

FABRIC ME!
My name was going to be Briedt – from a relative in the netherlands – but then my parents decided to change it to Brienn – and I”m VERY THANKFUL! People struggle with saying my name that I can’t even imagine the struggles with the first one! I always remember growing up my parents describing my name as “It’s like Brie cheese with 2 N’s to make it feminine.” I would repeat that all the time! :)
Christine says
FABRIC ME!!
Christine is a family name on my mother’s side.
Thanks!
Lucie says

Stef says

megan says
FABRIC ME!
my parents left me nameless until the last possible minute because they couldnt agree. Their nurse had a daughter named Megan, so they both agreed on that!
Anna B says
FABRIC ME!
The doctor had told my parents that I was going to be a boy, so my parents had the name “Jared Walter” picked out (Walter is a family name). They didn’t have any girl names picked out at all, so when I was born, they were completely unprepared. I went nameless for a night while my parents prayed about it and slept on it. My mom dreamed that I was named Anna and my dad dreamed I was named Grace. When they woke up in the morning, they looked up the name Anna and found out that it means “grace,” so they went with Anna.

Katie says
FABRIC ME!!!
Full name is Kathleen Marie…and Kathleen was my great-mother’s name. She and my mother were very close, which is how I got my name. And Marie, well, I think all baby girls born in the late 70’s have Marie or Ann as a middle name. haha.
My 4 kids all have grandparents names for their middle names.

I was named after Isabelle the elephant in the Babar series. The year I was born, Babar introduced a new character to the series (which they hadn’t done in a really long time)… a little girl named Isabelle! :-)
Eliza F says
FABRIC ME… Eliza Doolittle. No seriously. My father wanted “Elizabeth” but that’s my mother’s middle name and she didn’t like it. So Dr. Doolittle was showing at some time they were having these discussions and it was a great compromise. But I turned out more like Eliza Thornberry than the ultimately refined Eliza Doolittle.

FABRIC ME!
Growing up I read about the Lydia in the Bible who sold purple cloth. Since purple has always been my very favorite color, I assumed my parents must have picked my name for that reason. When I got older I learned that my parents had not in fact had a premonition about the future child’s color preferences and instead had just really liked my name.
Darcie says
FABRIC ME! In elementary school I wanted my name to be different but now I like it.
