After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
My cousin had a friend with my name and my parents liked it.
Nancy says
FABRIC ME! My name comes from my Mam’s maiden name, which was Nance. She always wanted to name her daughter Nancy.
Shiao says
FABRIC ME!
My name literally translates to “know gratitude”. By tradition, part of the name follows the elder girls in the family.
Stefanie says
Fabric me!! I was named after the actress Stefanie Powers, who was in Hart to Hart and my favorite, McLintock with John Wayne :D
Danielle P says
FABRIC ME!
Not named after anyone specific. But thankfully my Dad named my twin sister and I. After being nameless for ten days the nurses almost had my Mom convinced to name us Laverne & Shirley. Lol! Thankfully we ended up as Danielle and Christa.
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME!
Crazy timing–my husband and I were just talking about this over the weekend. I expressed that I don’t feel my name fits me and I can’t understand how my parents decided on “Lindsey.” Nothing stands out to me to make someone say, “Ah, that’s the one!” I also don’t feel like I fit the name, although I don’t have any other ideas.
To my folks’ credit, this naming business is no easy endeavor. I mean, it lives with someone forever! FORE-EVER (Sandlot style).
BTW, I love the way Click & Clack (NPR Car Talk hosts) get into the nitty-gritty of callers’ names! So funny to think about two old Italian guys mulling over the odd names they come across.
Justine B. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means Justice….but I don’t think that was a factor in naming me. My dad actually picked both mine and my brothers names when my mom was still hopped up on her C section drugs!
Kim says
FABRIC ME!!
I don’t think there was any special reason to name me Kimberly other than my parents liking it, but my middle name, Lynne, is for my grandma, Marilyn!
Emma says
FABRIC ME!!
My name comes from a German word meaning “whole” or “universal”…
Mary says
FABRIC ME!
My name “mary” is after my great grandmother.
Rebecca Brasher says
Fabric me! I don’t have any good stories about my name, but if I had been a boy my name would have been Richard Dean after my mom’s boss at the time. Kind of random, but I’ve always thought it was kind of funny.
Robyn says
Fabric me! There was a waitress in town named “Robin” who always had a smile on her face. They threw in the Y variation just for fun.
Michelle H says
FABRIC ME! I was named after a Beatles song.
Amanda Z says
FABRIC ME!
No special significance with my name, my parents just liked it :)
Sandy A says
“Fabric Me” My parents named after a relative on my father’s side named Sander. I wasn’t a boy so they just turned it into Sandra…

FABRIC ME!
My name has no special significance other than it’s what my parents happened to like at the time :)
Abby says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Abigail and I was named after Abigail in the bible who was said to be beautiful. Abigail means good in discretion, beautiful in form. I guess my parents wanted me to be smart and beautiful! Let’s hope I lived up to it!

linda says
fabric me! I’m named for my mom’s sister (first name) and my dad’s sister (middle name) and I’m a lot like both of them. They’re my favorite Aunts!
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME! My name was the only one my parents both liked!
Stephanie B. says
FABRIC ME! Not sure of the meaning of my name…
Shary says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is not unique, just uniquely spelled. I was supposed to be a boy, at least in my parents mind, and this was before ultrasounds. If I was a boy I would have been David, so when my parents heard I was a girl they didn’t know what to name me. My grandmother suggested the name of my great-great grandmother, who she mistakenly thought was Shary. It was really Cherry, like the fruit. I’ll take Shary over Cherry any day!
brianne sheppard says
FABRIC ME and I have no idea! I’ll have to call my mom tonight!
Felicity says
FABRIC ME!
My name means happiness. It’s actually relatively common in the UK, where my family is from.
Lisa Leigh says
FABRIC ME!
Real name is Elizabeth but they always called me Lisa. Elizabeth is a family name so I feel honored to carry on the name!
Katie J. says
FABRIC ME!
Katherine… a very popular white-girl name in the mid-to-late 80s. My parents were very unoriginal, but it could have been worse. :)
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME!
Family name :)
Natalie says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning or cool story to go with my name unfortunately. I do know that it had to pass the mother in law test and this knocked out a few other options!
Juliet says
Fabric Me!
I was born in Massachusetts where names are often drawn from literature, so there’s the origin…Plus they named my siblings David & Jennifer which were two of the most popular names at the time, so Mom picked something less common for me!
Kelly.R says
Fabric Me!
I believe I have a Great Great Aunt Kelly and another one named Annie and I became Kelly Ann after my brother said no to Lacey (I’m not having a sister named after a dress!). PS He was almost named Kelly also…
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
No interesting meaning behind my name. Runners-up for my name were Paige and Noel, and my older sister (age 3 at the time) suggested Donut.
Susie says
Cool, definitely FABRIC ME!! I am a FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences/a.k.a. Home Economics) teacher and I LOVE fabric – and even the sewing that goes along with it. My name was given to me by my maternal grandmother who unforunately passed away the month before I was born. I kind of wish she had chosen “Suzanne” instead of Susan, not sure where the Kathleen part of my middle name came from!
Janette says
Fabric me!
My name is similar to my mother’s name without being my mother’s name.
Beth says
Fabric Me!
I am named after both of my grandmothers! My first and middle name are their middle names :)
Ann says
Fabric me! My full name means “graceful leader”.
Chris says
FABRIC ME!
My mom liked the name. My middle name is the same as my aunt’s. Years later, we found out I have the same name as a great-greatgrandmother, who had died before my grandfather was born.
Jeannette says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my maternal great-grandmother who raised my mother. My parents never even thought of another option. Good thing I turned out to be a girl!
ahren foster says
FABRIC ME! my dad made up the spelling (so he says). I love having an ordinary name spelled a unique way!
Linda Williamson says
FABRIC ME!!!
I am named after my dad’s high school sweetheart, who is NOT my mom! My dad wanted to name my two older sisters “Linda”, and each time my mom put the kabosh on that idea. By the time I came around, I guess she figured the deal was sealed. So, yeah….makes for a good story!
Lisa says
FABRIC ME
asiya says
FABRIC ME!

Nicole says
Fabric me!
There is no interesting thing about my name other than my parents just liked it.

from Sweden! Kind of cool. I never really liked my name
though…..

Fabric me!!! I have the same middle name as both of my grandmothers. My brothers and I are also named in alphabetical order, A B and C!
Kimberley Ryan says
No known history of my name BUT my Mom really wishes more people knew me as Kimberley not Kim. She thinks she is the only one that calls me Kimberley.
I do like my name but I think I shortened it as a teen. So, make my Mom happy and call me Kimberley.
Kimberley Ryan says
Oops, Fabric me!
Lilly says
FABRIC ME!!
Lilly is from a combo of my parent’s names – Linda and Bill (or Billy for this to work). The Marie middle name is in my moms side of the family, which is neat because she and I are both LMH.
Jennifer E. says
Fabric me!
I was named after a girl from my mom’s high school. It wasn’t popular back then. I love my name and never wished it were different.
Tracy says
FABRIC ME! My mum was a victim of her era! Dad was workng away for a lot of her pregnancy and I don’t think got much say in the matter! All through primary school there were Tracy Anns and Tracey Lees. I was the only one without an e in Tracy and with a hyphen AND an e in Anne. I dropped the hyphen and just use Anne as a middle name now. Whenever I meet another Tracy we compare variations of our name, and invariably we are all born within a year or two of each other. I don’t think an Australian kid has been christened Trac(e)y for at least 40 years!
