After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Melanie says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after the awesome folk singer Melanie Safka! Apparently, she was very popular with peeps my parents’ age, since 2 of my best friends in primary school were also named after her…sharing a name is a fantastic basis for a friendship, non?
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My mom didn’t want to name me Heather originally because every Heather she knew was a jerk, haha! But my dad had always loved the name and eventually he convinced her. I did not realize that Heather was a flower until fifth grade. Yep, it took me a while…
Charlotte says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for my father’s sister.
Vilija says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Lithuanian and is the name of a river. Growing up I always hated my name because the only other Lithuanian people I knew were family members. I was the kid whose name got butchered during role call. During my middle school years my parents sent me to a week long summer camp for Lithuanian kids where I finally met other kids (with weird names) like me and grew to appreciate my name. Now I’m glad that many people haven’t heard of my name and look forward to bestowing Lithuanian names upon my children so that they too can have ties to such a rich heritage.

My middle name is after my great grandmother, her name was Ida and my mom used the I for Ilyce.
Abby says
Fabric me! My name means father’s joy which is fitting considering I’m a daddy’s girl. I was named after my mother with my middle name. I love having a name with equal meaning for both of my parents.

FABRIC ME!!
I am named after my great great great grandmother. My mom had decided on a different name that my dad did not like & then someone gave my mom a family tree from my dad’s side of the family. She found my name & said “that’s it”. I love my name & after hearing what they were going to name me, I am SO happy someone gave her that family tree!

FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my godmother, but it’s my middle name (Ann) that I’ve always wanted to change. Why? It’s the same as my older sister’s middle name. Would a little creativity for the second born have been too much to ask? (Apparently, yes.)
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is my great grandmother’s name. I also gave it to my daughter. I love being a Zoe. People always ask what the Z is for.

FABRIC ME!
No special story behind my first name but my middle name is Susanne and it is spelled with an ‘s’ because the nurse at the hospital said oh my name is Susanne you are going to spell it with an ‘s’ right not a ‘z’ because the ‘s’ is more ladylike.
Kathy Cook says

FABRIC ME. When my parents got divorced my mom found out that my middle name (Linnea) was my dad’s high school girlfriend’s name.
Oh and my favorite name is our dog’s name. When my (now) husband and I first started dating, he got me the book Tuesdays With Morrie on CD on our first Valentines Day. We would sit around and listen to it and drink wine each night. And now we are happily married w/ a Brittany spaniel named Morrie.

Heather Barcroft says
Fabric me!
My name is a flower, but no special rhyme or reason for naming me it besides the fact that they liked it!
Erin says
FABRIC ME!! My parents were expecting me to be a boy, so they didn’t have a girl’s name lined up. They used to watch the tv show The Walton’s all the time and they liked the characters Erin and Elizabeth. They thought that the two names sounded good together, so it stuck!
Kaydee says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Kameha. I have no idea what it means, but it’s like King Kamehameha from Hawaii. Also, there’s apparently a character on Yu-Gi-Oh that has a similar name? (When I introduce myself, guys have actually started to ask me, “Like from Yu-Gi-Oh?!” My response is usually something like, “Uuuuhhh…sure?”)
BUT, WAIT! THERE”S MORE! I have a twin brother named Kye and my mom was going to name me something else, but my godmother told her that since her name starts with a K, she had to give me a K name too. So she gave my mom a list of K names and my mom choose Kameha. Fun, right?
Rotem says
FABRIC ME!
I am names after a desert-flower my parents love, but I hated my name growing up!! It is sooo hard for most North-Americans to pronounce, I have finally had to give up and now I’ll answer to anything that sounds even remotely similar. Sure makes for some funny situations…. :D
Lisa M says
FABRIC ME! My name was one of the only ones that both my parents liked. I never loved it but now it would be weird to have a different name.
Jen says
Fabric Me!
Don’t know of any special story behind “Jennifer” other than my parents both liked it. (As did every other parent in America in the 70’s!!) Like the name, but way too common during my growing up years for my liking.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME! My mom named me Ashley after the (male) character in Gone With the Wind. I guess I like it better than Scarlett.
Nichole says
FABRIC ME!
My aunt actually chose my first name, Nichole. My mother and father agreed on Christine as my middle name to include my father’s name, Christopher, somehow. My younger sister’s name is Kristie, they included his name in there too! My father passed many years ago, and I hope to pass down his name to future babies. :)
Lauren H says
FABRIC ME!
My parents liked the name Lauren, but no meaning behind it. I do share a middle name with my mom’s sister and my dad’s mother, so that’s pretty neat! Any future daughter of mine will get this middle name as well.
Missy B says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Melissa, after the Allman Brothers song :)
Erika W says
FABRIC ME!! My parents thought I was going to be a boy, they were going to name me Erik…surprise! I was, obviously, a girl so they added an A at the end…viola…Erika
Adie P says
FABRIC ME!!!!!! My full name (Adrienne) means dark or mysterious in Latin and my mom picked it so I wouldn’t have a nickname. Then when we were little my cousin, who is a year older than me, couldn’t say Adrienne. She said Adie (say like 80), and it stuck!
Michelle Rosales says
FABRIC ME!
I have no special meaning behind my name that I am aware of. I know my mom went to high school with a ton of Michelles so I think that’s where she got it.
Side note: last night my niece broke my favorite (and only) ceramic animal. I almost cried over it! She broke the antlers right off my deer :( plus side is that I may be getting a new caramic animal now though because her mom feels so bad! Haha
Denise says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a parents uncle or great uncle, yes I said uncle, he died very close to when I was born, so I was given the name Denise, as his name was Denis.
Other little tit bit I’m the only one out of my siblings to have no middle name. Both my brothers (one older, one younger) have middle names. Always wanted a middle name growing up, tried to give myself one, but it never stuck!
Vickie M says
Fabric Me! I guess my parents just liked the name. The spelling was different than the usual, though, which I do really like.
Tamani says
FABRIC ME!
My mother overheard my grandfather talking about “Tammany Hall” one day and thought it was a lovely name. One of my older siblings was supposed to get it, but for some reason that didn’t happen and it fell to me. My mother did not research what that actually was until after the fact. Awesome namesake, huh? Yes, I’ve always wanted to change it, but I’m afraid it would hurt my parents’ feelings.
