After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My name, Tara and it came from the plantation on Gone with the Wind. :)
Ranelle says
Fabric me! My mom knew someone in highschool that was named Renelle and she liked the sound of it…when I was around 13 I looked back in her highschool year book and discovered she had misspelled my name as “Ranelle”! Haha
Brianna says
FABRIC ME! My name includes parts of each of my grandmother’s names, which I guess makes it kind of fun– I like it!

FABRIC ME! I was named after my dad’s favorite uncle, Andrew.
Sherry in BC says
FABRIC ME! My first name has no special meaning though my middle name is Linne. Most Sherry’s have either Ann or Lynn as their middle name but I have yet to meet anyone with the spelling Linne. I think my Dad was just a creative speller on my birth certificate. I would love some new fabric to play with…..likely for curtains.
Jenna says
FABRIC ME! My parents got my name from the tv show Dallas.
Liz says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my grandma. Exciting, I know. My parents kept it super orig with “Elizabeth Ann”.
Laura says
“FABRIC ME!”
My mother specifically picked out a name, so that no “cutesie” nickname could be formed from it. She did the same for my sister. Alas, we still gave each other nick names. I became Lala or Lulu.
Melinda says
Fabric Me!!!
Diana says
FABRIC ME!
Apparently my dad just liked my name (and it has cool alliteration with my maiden name), but I like to think I was named after Princess Di :-).
Mikala says
Fabric me! My mom’s name is Michelle, so she liked that it was similar to hers. When she picked it she didn’t realize that the way she chose to spell it wasn’t the “traditional” way and now she wishes she would have thrown a “y” in there. But I love that not many people spell it like me! Her second choice was Miranda…not bad, but I like Mikala better :-)
liz says
FABRIC ME!
My name was actually supposed to be Laura, and up until a few weeks before I was born that’s what my parents called me. But then my cousin was born just before I was and they hadn’t picked out a name yet, so Laura it was! Yep, my aunt stole my name. So then my parents name me Elizabeth….. which is my older sisters middle name. I guess they had a hard time coming up with anything else!
Stacey says
Fabric ME!
Jenna says
Fabric me! My middle name “Rae” is more the historical family name (Ray for the boys), I guess my parents just liked “Jenna.”
Rebecca says
Fabric me!!
Rebecca means “to bind or tie” or “loyal”. I like the name, but always wished I had a cooler spelling if it like “Rebekkah” :)
Nicole Betterley says
Fabric Me! my parents just liked the name:)
Lizbeth says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my great grandmother, thankfully. My parents had been in the Peace Corps right before I was born and were, for a while, stuck on naming me a name that’s beautiful pronounced with a Spanish accent. SO glad I’m not Eunice!
erin says
FABRIC ME . . . Erin means Ireland or peace, but I’m not sure that’s why my parents named me that. I think they just liked the name and that it shut up my cranky irish grandmother.
Kara says
FABRIC ME!
My parents wanted something pretty sounding, unique and easy to pronounce. Voila!
Kellee says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose to spell my name differently which I hated when I was little since my brother and sister had normal spelled names and could always buy items with their names on it when we went on vacation to fun spots when I couldn’t. They picked the spelling because my dad’s middle name is Lee so I guess I’m kind of named after him :) I appreciate the different spelling now that I’m older.
Tracie says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning behind my first name, but my mom was a fan of the actress Leigh Taylor-Young, so gave me the middle name Leigh.
Alise says
“FABRIC ME!” and tell us… “Alise” was my great-great grandmother’s name and we share the same birthday. Also, my parents wanted it to be the French spelling (Alice) but realized I’d spend my whole life correcting the pronunciation, so they swapped the “C” for the “S”.
Lindy says
Fabric me!! I love my name because its unique! Named after my moms college roomie!
Tracy says
Fabric me!
My parents picked my name because it was easy and with an 11 letter last name they wanted to cut me a break. Not super interesting. However, my parents were convinced I was going to be a boy and went ahead and named the dog they got two months before I was born their girl name. It was a very 80’s stripper-ish name. They contemplated changing the dog’s name after I was born, but thankfully they did not! Seriously, I cannot tell you how thankful I am they picked a different name!
Lesli says
FABRIC ME!!! My name is spelled oddly which my parents thought was “cool” :)
Mimi says
Fabric Me –
it was my grandmother’s nickname.
Kristen says
fabric me please!
Not sure why my parents named me Kristen, but apparently it’s a tough name. Teachers and Baristas never seem to get it (Christine, Christian, Kristy… every variation, never Kristen)
Shari says
FABRIC ME!
My first name Shari was after Shari Lewis who was in Lambchops. My dad found my middle name Dane in the TV Guide. I think he knew I was destined to be a TV junkie!
TJ says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after one of my Mum’s work colleagues from when she was long, she later went on to explain that the woman was a bit of a “player”…. hmmmm.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!!!
I’m ‘Sarah’, named after my aunt and great-aunt!
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
I love the story of my name – I was named after my grandmother, Theda. My mom never knew why, but Grandpa always called her “Kate,” so when she had me a year or two after her mom’s death, she named me Katherine, but I’ve always been called Kate.
Eric says
FABRIC ME! – i wish there was a story to tell.
KatyO says
FABRIC ME!!
So I’ve been called Katy since day 1 but it’s really just a nickname of my middle name. My parents said that they knew they wanted to call me Katy but wanted me to have the option of a more grown-up name as I got older. I’m 35 and still Katy!
ps – I am currently trying to find fabric to recover two club chairs – so I want this!!!!
Ashley says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my grandfather – his middle name was Ashley. That was back in the day when Ashley was still a boys name. My mom was such a trendsetter and didn’t even know it!
Sara says
FABRIC ME!
I am Sara Elizabeth and I was named after both of my great-grandparents.
Gene says
Fabric me!
My first name is Gene, middle name is Callista. For some reason my parents were stuck on that spelling and name for whatever sex child they ended up with and only changed the middle name! The spelling confusion that has plagued me my entire life…
Melinda says
My name means thankful. My parents always wanted us to be thankful for God’s grace (the meaning of my sister’s name).
Christy Niebaum says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always jokes that my dad wanted to name me Christy after the super model, Christy Brinkley, who he was allegedly crushing on.
Elaine K says
FABRIC ME! My parents named me after a friend of theirs, who went by the nickname Lainie Lou, which I refused to let them call me!
Christy says
FABRIC ME! My parents couldn’t decide between Christine or Christina. They knew they’d just end up calling me Christy, so they gave me my nickname as my name instead.
Itim says
Fabric me ——- I was named after my grandfather
Betsy P says
Fabric me!
My real name is “Elizabeth” after my aunt.
Wehaf says
My name is a family name on both sides. I love it!
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were convinced that I was going to be a boy, and were going to name me Stephen… But they got surprised (haha), and went with Stephanie instead :)
Pam the Goatherd says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is my mother’s middle name. I’ve never asked how my grandparents came up with her name. Now you’ve got me curious. Next time I see my grandma I’m going to have to ask!
My middle name is my mother’s mother’s name and my father’s favorite sister’s name.
Angela Kintner says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name is ‘Angela’ which means ‘messenger from God’. I’ve been called ‘Angie’ most of my life – by family and friends. We recently relocated and I’ve been trying to make the change to ‘Angela’ but it is very difficult (especially when people hear my hubby call me Angie). On our last two moves I tried and was unsuccessful. Lol!
Grace says
FABRIC ME! Supposedly, my older sister named me from the Grace from The Little House in the Prairie series? But who really knows?
