I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! FABRIC ME!
My name means white or pure in Sanskrit (one of the Indian languages). I guess that means I can never be naughty!
Skylar says
Fabric me!! My name has never bothered me except for the fact that it’s constantly misspelled.
Jolissa says
Fabric Me!!!!
So my mom liked the name Melissa, but thought it was too common, so she just started adding sounds to -issa until she came up with Jolissa. She had never heard it before, so she went with it. Now it is shortened to Joli for the most part, and I enjoyed being the only Joli in town until a friend named her little girl Jolee. Don’t mind sharing with her at all!!!
laura says
Fabric Me! I didn’t have a name until I was over 3 months old… The hospital kept calling and asking what the name of the baby was so they could order my birth certificate. My parents couldn’t decided… I was Holly, Rebecca, Shannon… My dad’s aunt told my parents that I should be named after my Grandmother, but my mom thought her name was hideous… so she asked my aunt what my dad (Laurence) was going to be called if he had been a girl… and, Laura it was!!
Caitlin says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name my Katya, my dad thought that was too funky and wanted Katherine. A barmaid overheard the debate and suggested Caitlin, which neither of them had ever heard. They thought it was original but not kooky. Of course, three years later Caitlin was the #1 name for baby girls. Go figure.
PS that yellow Suzani is my favorite! I made it into curtains for my bookshelf.
Caitlyn Smelser says
Fabric me! I was named after a tv show character, CJ. My mom named me Caitlyn Jennifer then never called me CJ. Nice one mom!
Kirstin says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after a Miss Michigan beauty pageant runner up. My sister took my dad when he was 10 or so and he apparently declared that night that it was what he’d name his daughter.

Ashley says
Fabric me…I sometimes wish my parents had given me a more unique name, or at very least spelled Ashley a different way. Ashleigh, Ashli, or something more interesting than the ‘normal’ way. :)
Kelli says
Fabric Me!
My parents wanted strong Irish names for both me and my sisters. They also wanted names that could be used as either male or female.
Sarah says
Fabric me! So…there were a million Sarah’s everywhere growing up so I always wished my name was unique and something different
Ashley says
Fabric Me! My mom found my name while watching a soap opera while on Maternity leave. Up until the time I was in college, the character was still on the show. :)
Jenifer S. says
Fabric me!
There’s no real story to me name, other than my parents liked it and liked the spelling.
My older brother claims they shortened my name and spelled it with one “n” because they knew I was going to be short- I’m 5′ 1/2″ on a really good day. But that’s older brothers for you :)
Tiffanie says
FABRIC ME!!!!!
….my name…..it was just one that my momma liked….but, as you can see, they chose to spell it a bit differently. I have NEVER met another person with the same spelling as mine. Also, my middle name is after my dad’s middle name….so, that is it….that’s my name…. :)
Candy says
FABRIC ME!

Caitlin says
Fabric me!
I am a new(ish) reader, but I love your style and your house and your family. Waiting for my boyfriend to jump on the train too!
As for my name…my parents chose Erica (after my dad) and Brianna, but my mom chose my real name once I was born and “she saw that I was a Caitlin.” In fact, my boyfriend (who seems to think Megatron is a great name for a child…still not sure if he is serious or not) was recently told by my dad “Tricia (my mom) and Cait will be naming your children…you aren’t going to have a choice in it, Doug…Sorry.”
Kristen says
FABRIC ME! Great giveaway :-) Nothing particularly special about how my parents picked Kristen that I know of. It was Kristen for a girl or Chris for a boy.
FABRIC ME! says
I was named after one of my mother’s dolls. The name is fine with me!
Sue says
FABRIC ME!
My parents couldn’t decide between the names Susan and Sharon when I was born. My grandpa, a teetotalling Baptist pastor, expressed concern that if I was named Sharon, I might get nicknamed Sherry…and apparently the thought of having a granddaughter with the same name as an alcoholic beverage was just really galling to him. :-) (sorry, Sherry; I love your name even if my grandpa didn’t!). My mom said something had to tip the scale, and that was it. So I was named Susan Ruth (my grandma’s name was Ruth, and I was born on her birthday).
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My mom got to name my older brother, so my dad got to name me. Our family is Scottish on my dad’s side (and, it turns out, on my mom’s as well but they didn’t know that at the time I was born), so Heather was a natural name to choose. My dad had never met a Heather in his life, although apparently it became a little popular right before I was born because I know a few of them who are my age and a couple years older. My middle name is also very Scottish, and a family name from my mom’s side.
I’ve come to like my name as an adult, but I have a little dysphoria about it still. Less so than when I was a kid/teen, when I would have given anything to change my name. I still have trouble remembering that it’s ME, my mister almost never uses it because I don’t hear it. I do have a nickname that I picked up in high school and use as an online screen name, which ended up being the name that most people I knew called me for YEARS because we met in an online group and they just thought it was my name–so it stuck. That’s not how my mister knows me, but I answer to it more readily than my own legal name, so he has been known to call me that to get my attention.
/end novel.
Christa says
FABRIC ME!
While I love my name, there is sadly no cool story for how it came to be.
Michelle Botkin says

Meredith Jones says
FABRIC MEEEE!!
My first name (Meredith) is a name my parents just liked… but my middle name was my Great Nana’s first name – Marguerite – a very special name to me!
Misty says
Fabric me! My parents didn’t know what to name me, and my dad was standing in the window of the hospital, noticing it was VERY misty and foggy outside. He said, to my mom, “It’s really misty outside, what about that?!” So, Misty, I am. I got my name from the weather. I don’t mind it, but unfortunately, he made the joke that my middle name could be “Foggy”, and that stuck as a nickname for years. Lovely, right?!
Al says
Fabric me!
Angela says
FABRIC ME! I suspect most of you won’t get the reference (unless you’re an oldster like me), but my dad chose my name because he thought Angie Dickinson was hot. If I had had a say in the matter, I would have been named after my great-grandma Clara. Sadly, as a newborn I was unable to articulate exactly how much I hated the name Angela.
Kelly says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is a beloved family name from several generations of women on my moms side.
Kristin says
My name is of Christian origin but my parents definitely weren’t thinking of that when they named me; they just liked the sound of Kristin :)
Hanna says
Fabric Me! named after my great aunt
colleen says
fabric me!
My parents had 3 boys before me. Colleen is gaelic for “girl”!
Marcia says
Fabric Me! – Marcia is the cool alternate spelling of Marsha. It means “from Mars”, which on many days is true :) My dad insisted that they would not spell my name the Polish way (mom is 100% Polish) and choose my current spelling. Fun fact – Marcia Bray of the Brady Bunch fame spells it the same just check out the credits on the show.
Shanny says
FABRIC ME!
Yay I love sewing. So my name is Shanny but no one ever pronounces it right, it’s supposed to be “Shawny.” Long story short, in spanish the letter “A” is an “ahh” sound so unfortunately I end up with a lot of weird variations..shaany, shan’e, shanty, oh you’d be surprised…
Donna says
“FABRIC ME!” My name is Donna, which means ” Lady ” in Italian.

Ana Hamilton says
FABRIC ME!! I am fortunate enough to have been chosen by my parents to bear my beloved grandmother’s name. She was such a wonderful grandmother and person in general that I would have been happy to have her name whatever it might have been.
Katie says
Fabric me!!!
Katie . . . Most common name of my era! Had a minimum of three in every class all through school! Not too original, parents!!! Oh, and no idea what it means. Hmmmm. . .
Laurie Pangborn says
FABRIC ME! My name has no special meaning but is often mispronounced as Lori. It actually rhymes with Ari. Thanks for the amazing giveaway.
Carrie says
“FABRIC ME!”
no special meaning
Hannah K says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my maternal grandmother – when my mom told her that they were naming me Hannah after her, she got mad! She hated being called Hannah (more specifically Hannah Banana) But now she likes it – only on me!
Katy says
FABRIC ME!
My name is not super interesting, but because I have a nickname, and because it’s not the common spelling of it, I decided that I was only going to name my kids what they would be called and give them the most traditional spellings of their names!
leiann says
Fabric me!
I think my name came from my grandma`s neighbor… At least the spelling of it did. :-)
