After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Andrea J says
FABRIC ME! My name (Andrea) is said to mean, “The feminine form of Andrew”, and Andrew means “manly”. So rather than say that my name means “manly” I like to think that the feminine form of “manly” is “womanly”. Thus, my name means “Womanly”! My parents also named me the pronunciation “ON-dree-uh”. I have to correct people a lot.

FABRIC ME! My name means “worthy of love”, which I think suits me perfectly! My mom originally wanted to name me Natalie but I am very happy she settled on Amanda instead, although she says she still regrets it sometimes.

FABRIC ME! My mom just liked the name so I got it. I was never a huge fan of it but I’m just used to it now. It’s strange how it became such a popular name.

wendy says
FABRIC ME!
My parents went to see PETER PAN on one of their first dates and ended up naming me “Wendy” when I came along. It’s kind of funny since my sister was born first and there’s no connection to her name and the production . . . Mom says it’s because my coloring was so white/light and it just so happens that “Wendy” from “Gwendolyn” means “white-browed.” I’ve just always been grateful that they didn’t choose “Tinkerbell” instead! Whew!
Miki says
Fabric ME! My name, Mikhal, is the Hebrew feminine of Michael.
Karin says
FABRIC ME!

Diana Boersen says
FABRIC ME!
I like my name, the older kids in our family of nine kids all have traditional Dutch names which were all shortened to “English” versions. I guess my parents gave up and just gave me an English name.

FABRIC ME!!!!
I’m named after my great grandmother and then my middle name is from my step-grandmother, which I think is kind of cool because it gives us more of a connection.

FABRIC ME!! My name was supposed to be Natasha, but at the hospital my dad wrote ‘Alisha’ on the birth certificate without consulting my mom.. My mom didn’t totally hate it, so now I am Alisha . :)
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
My grandpa wanted to name me Viola (which I’m sure I would have loathed as a child but absolutely adore now). My dad’s vote was Brianna. Mom won out and named me Emily.
No reasoning behind the choice; they just liked it. I just searched it (only took me 28 years) and found out that it means “hard-working.”
-alex says
Fabric Me! My last name is Japanese (by marriage) and it is unusual for even a Japanese. It’s two characters, the first one meaning “Big,” and the second one means “Crevasse or Gap.”
Yes, I’m a big crevasse.

FABRIC ME! My name is French for ‘beloved’– I was born at 23 weeks (which is crazy for 25 years ago!), and my parents didn’t really think I’d stick around, so they wanted something that spoke to how much they loved me just in case. Turns out I was a fighter! Now I just have to correct everyone I meet on the unique spelling. :)

FABRIC ME! No special meaning, although I always wished there was.

FABRIC ME!
My name is “Elisabeth”, but I’ve always been called Beth. My mom wanted to name me after Elizabeth Bennett, from Pride and Prejudice, and Beth March, from Little Women, (two of her favorite book characters) and after her favorite cousin Beth. My dad contributed the “s” to make my name unique.
Melissa M says
Fabric me!
I love my name. My mom didn’t want to use a family name and so she chose something different. It was a popular name for girls growing up but I didn’t mind sharing because I liked it so much. It is Greek for “honey bee,” so I have always felt kindly towards bees.
