After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Wiley says
Fabric me!!!
I was named after my 2 grandmothers- Wiley was my mom’s mom’s maiden name and Elizabeth (my middle name) was after my dads mom!
I love having and original name- even if Wiley does mean “wet meadow”… How lame is that! Haha!
Jennifer S says
FABRIC ME!
My mom liked a movie star with the same name. No meaning but when thinking of my future children I only think of names I like so I guess they won’t have a special meaning either
becca says
fabric me, I want new dining room curtains.
Jessie says
Fabric Me!
No interesting family story behind my name, I think it was just popular during that time..
Jennifer A says
FABRIC ME!
My name is from Welsh origin meaning Fair and Smooth but is also linked with the Gaelic version Genevieve. My parents just liked the name. but it turns out I am VERY fair… and relatively smooth! ;-)
Wendy L says
FABRIC ME!
My father asked his commanding officer for name suggestions for a girl, and he said every Wendy I ever knew was smart and beautiful. I doubt that this is true though. My dad likes to tell stories.
Jessie says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning, but a fun fact is that dr. told my parents I was definitely a boy and they’d picked the name Jesse. When I was born a girl, my mom said she was too tired to think of a new name, so I was named Jessie anyway.
Sugar Cookie says
Fabric Me!
The story goes that my mom was six months pregnant with me and still had not decided on a name. Then, one night, she was watching “Heart to Heart” with Stephanie Powers, reading “To Kill a Mockingbird,” which has the character Stephanie Crawford, and then the phone rang and it was my dad’s cousin Stephanie from Georgia. As you can probably guess, my name is Stephanie, and that’s where it comes from!
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
I was born in South Korea but my parents knew I would eventually grow up here. My mom is Korean and Amanda was one of the few English names that she was able to say.
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
My parents (both of whom have dark hair) initially had a name picked out for me that they felt suited a dark-haired baby girl. When I was born blond they were totally thrown off, and had to go back to their baby name book to come up with something they felt “fit”. I’m brunette now but the name still works. My middle name is the same as my mom’s, a tradition we hope to continue with any girls my husband and I may have.
Kayleen says
FABRIC ME!
My parents think they “created” my name, combining their 3 (total) sisters – Susan KAY, ColLEEN, Dolores MARIE – to make “Kayleen Marie”. But, since it’s not a totally unique name, I’m thinking it just worked out nice that they could say that!
Jenn says
Fabric me! My parents named me Jennifer in 1980. Jennifer had been the most popular name for girls for the last ten years and would go on to be the most popular for another five years after. It’s very annoying going to school and working with three other Jennifers all the time.
Alysce says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from the sitcom “Family Ties” circa 1982-1989. The mom on the show was Elyse and her husband was Steven. Funny thing– my brother’s name is Steven.
karen says
FABRIC ME!!
I was named Karen, after my mother best friend growing up. I’m proud of my name, although in my college days I tried to spunk it up a bit by spelling it Karyn…never stuck ;-)
Adria says
FABRIC ME!
“Yo, Adrian!” inspired my mom to drop the n and go with “Adria”. Sadly, most people get it wrong and call me Adrian anyway – I don’t really mind. :)
Amy Salvatori says
FABRIC ME!
Named after a student in my father’s class. Not exciting.
Michaela says
FABRIC ME!
Michaela is the feminine version of Michael, my fathers name and also means “who is like God.” That ones debatable
Megan says
Fabric Me! There is no special meaning or exciting story to tell about my name. My parents knew a girl with the same name and loved it enough to use it for me.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
The story of my name goes along the lines of how as a baby, I didn’t look like the names that had been chosen. So I cried while my family tried to name me…until my sister suggested “Emily!”
Hillary says
Fabric me! My first name is after the restaurant my parents went to on their first date. My middle name is after my grandmother.
Courtney says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve heard different meanings for my name, but my favorite is “the heart’s friend”. No special significance in our family, my Mom saw a shoe ad and the little girl modeling shoes was named Courtney, and that’s how it was decided.
Anna says
Fabric me!
Preethi says
FABRIC ME!! My name means lovable in sanskrit. If you knew me you’d know that’s true! Haha :) I got your book today! To say I’m excited would be an understatement.
Betsy says
Fabric Me!
My name is Elizabeth and my sister got to pick my nickname “Betsy”. I love my name :)
Jill says
Fabric me!
My name comes from my aunts middle name! I always wanted something different, but wasnt sure what! But knowing that Sherry is great at guessing my very vertically lined name makes me laugh about it now! Great to meet you in Portland and loved hearing the ‘Jill story’!!
kim says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my dad’s secretary; he thought she was cute. My mom always tries to dispute this, saying they both liked the name, but give her enough wine and the true story comes out.
Liz E. says
FABRIC ME!!
I was named after my grandmother.
harmony says
“FABRIC ME!”
My mom actually was very purposeful when she named her children. She said she named us after things she wanted us to have in our lives. Thus I have a sister named Charity Faith, another named Destiny Sunshine and I am Harmony Lynn (Lynn is after a family friend who really helped my mom out when she was pregnant with me.)
Stevie says
Fabric me!
My name is Stevie and I was named after Stevie Nicks (yes, I’m a female with the name Stevie). My mom was a huge Fleetwood Mac fan. When my mom was in labor, she ended up having to go into an emergency c-section so my dad wasn’t in the room. The hospital had run out of pink hats so they put a blue one on me. With the name Stevie and the blue hat on my head, my dad thought I was a boy when he first met me. No wonder I became such a tomboy!
I used to hate how different my name was in Elementary school, I actually got teased a lot because it was a boy’s name. I used to pretend my legal name was Stephanie. Now I love it and could not imaging having any other name in the world!
Heather says
FABRIC ME! My first name had no special meaning to my parents/family. My parents just liked it.
Justynn Lena says
FABRIC ME!!
What could you possibly mean? Justynn isnt a typical name for a woman? No, in all honesty my name is usually my ice breaker. Justynn (Justin) my mother picked after some book character? It was tormenting growing up and having to deal with the first day of school teacher role call business, but I’ve since grown into it and really appreciate it. And like I said, It’s my ice breaker. All “Hi My Name is:” name tags generall end up with the words “Justynn, like the boys name, but I’m a girl, confusing I know” written on them.
:)
Vicky v says
Fabric me!! My mom picked my name that no one in the family has, but that’s she really liked!

My name is the German spelling of Joanna to reflect my German heritage!

Lacy D says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Lacen… my mom made it up! I go by Lacy but she wanted me to have a more formal name too.
Katie says
Fabric Me!
My full name is Kathryn Mary and I was born on 3.3. I as named after my mom’s sister who was born on 3.1, Mary, and her daughter Kathryn, who was born on 3.4. Mary Kathryn sounded too much like a nun for my mom.
Kathi says
Fabric Me!!
I was named after a book and have been told my entire life that my name is spelled incorrectly..can’t say that these days w/ everyone naming their kids after locations lol
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!!
I am named after an old country song. As is my sister. My parent’s couldn’t decide on a name for my brother, but the hospital wouldn’t let them leave without naming him. So his name is William, just like my dad. =)
Allyson M says
Fabric Me!!
I don’t really know the meaning behind my name, or why my parents picked it, but I do know that my mom wanted to call me Grace after her grandmother. My dad hated the name Grace and argued that every time I did something clumsy, someone would say, “Not so graceful, Grace!” SO, I used Grace as the middle name for MY daughter! :) Take that, Dad!
Lisa says
FABRIC ME! I am named after a friend of my mother’s. Are you pregnant and looking for name inspiration, Sherry? Sorry just kidding :)

My parents liked the meaning of my name “Katherine Amy” = “beloved ruler” :) I’m pretty bossy, so I guess they chose well!
Diane says
FABRIC ME!
My name apparently means Divine One…hahaha.
Audra Kelley says
Fabric Me!!! I was named after an old civil war song. My dad is a huge history buff and noticed a songbook on Robert E. Lee’s piano titled “Aura Lee”, but changed it to Audra Lee. Lee is also my dad’s middle name. The cool thing about the song though is that it’s the same tune for Elvis’ “Love me tender” which was my father/daughter dance song at my wedding.
Ashley B. says
Fabric me! My dad picked my name. He overheard it at a baseball game.
KimberlyJ says

Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
I have two names, one unofficial and one official. My official name is Kelly. My mother named me after Robin Wright’s character she played in Santa Barbara.
My unofficial name is Khiav Dim. It’s my Hmong name and it means Exodus. I was named after the second book in the Bible because I was a sickly baby and after my parents took me to church and had the Pastor pray over me, I got better. We have continued to go to church ever since.
Anne says
FABRIC ME! My mom was reading Persuasion by Jane Austen when pregnant with me and fell in love with my name. I used to think my name was boring but appreciate it more and more as I grow older!
