After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

anna says
fabric me!
I go by anna, but I’m actually a Johanna – my parents were trying to be a bit original, and then found out that there’s a heap of Johans, Johannes-es etc in the German branch of our family tree. I never particularly liked Johanna, and *loathed* being called Jo, but in high school, what else were they going to call me? I switched to anna when I started hanging out way too much at my in-laws’ house before my hubby and I were even a couple – my sister in law is a Jo, and she’s older than me, so she was Jo first. ;)

My first name doesn’t have any significance, but my middle name is “Noel” because they thought I was going to be born around Christmas. I ended up coming in January though- haha!
Alina says
Fabric me! My parents just liked the sound of it. I couldn’t imagine having a different name, though it would be nice to have something that people don’t constantly mispronounce.
Molly says
Fabric Me! My legal name is after my maternal grandmother, but my parents called me a completely different name my entire life!
Anne S. says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after a great aunt, a missionary to Ethiopia.
Marie says
FABRIC ME! I guess Marie in Hebrew means bitter? But I’m not a bitter person! My parents just liked the name, I suppose :)
Olivia says
Fabric ME!!! My hippie parents had a party after I was born – they didn’t have a name for me because they thought I was a boy. I think it had something to do with Olivia De Havilland. I’m honored! She’s a beauty!
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, Katherine, is for many great Cates and Katherines and my middle name, Ann, is for my mother’s grandmother, who I hear was a spunky, hardworking, Iowa farm girl!
GardenFresh says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after both grandmothers.
Jenni says
FABRIC ME!
Not actually sure how my parents picked out my name. But yes, I have heard every Forrest Gump joke about a million times. And no, my number is not 867-5309.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
It was 1981, that’s what my name means.
Whitney says
FABRIC ME! My name is Whitney and my name means “white island” My parents chose the name Whitney because they couldn’t naturally have children and waited for 6 years to adopt a baby. The year I was born (86) “The Greatest Love of All” by Whitney Houston was a top hit. My mom said this song came on the radio after the adoption agency told her that I had been born and needed a home. She was crying all the way to the hospital and named me Whitney after the artist of this song :)

Deborah says
FABRIC ME!I’m named after Deborah in the book of Judges in the Bible. She was a pretty awesome lady, so I like the name. My sibling and I (and my husband and his brother) were all named after people in the Bible, so we’re going to carry on the tradition with our kiddos.

Ami says
Fabric me!!
My name means “beloved”!
Erin B says
FABRIC ME!
My dad’s side of the family is Dutch, and my mom’s is Irish. He wanted an “Irish” name to go with the Dutch last name, to keep my heritage in there. Unfortunately while “Erin” actually means Ireland, it’s not used so much as a first name in Ireland itself! Or so I was told when I visited Dublin a few years ago. :)
Gillian says
Fabric Me!
My dad just saw my name somewhere and decided that that was what they would name me. The meaning of my name is downy hair with is curly hair. I ended up with a head full of thick curly hair. When people ask me what my name means and I tell them, they are greatly surprised and think it’s the coolest thing ever.
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME!
I have a great aunt who I was named after.
Cindy says
Fabric Me! I was named after a special friend of my mom! I’ve thought about what it would be like with another name but couldn’t decide what it should be. So always been happy with the name my folks gave me. :)
Leslie says
FABRIC ME!
My Mom knew a girl with my name and thought she was sweet. I bet she didn’t know she would get me.
Courtney M says
Fabric me! My first name doesn’t have a story but my middle name was selected bc Shea stadium was the first big venue the Beatles played at in the US.
Dawn says
Fabric me!, my mom wanted to name me Daphne, my faster didn’t like it and because I was born early in the morning he picked Dawn (only good thing he ever did)
Hannah Delaney says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my name because it was strong, old fashioned, and fairly rare. Then, in my preschool class, there were 3 Hannah’s! So much for rare..
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my two grandmothers. One of them passed away before I was born so it has always been my special to her.
Athena Warner says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the Grecian goddess of Wisdom, Warfare (more about the warriors in battle than war itself, which is the purview of Ares), and Arts & Crafts (no joke–everything from weaving to tapestries, she’s the Cottage Industry goddess!). My mom actually held off on naming me for almost a full two weeks after I was born because nothing just seemed to fit. Then, my dad, who is an artist, painted a picture called “Athena Pallas” (which is Athena’s second name, also known as Pallas Athena, Pallas Athene, and Pallas), and my mom just KNEW it was the right one. And then, to appease my grandmother, my mom ended up tacking on Eve to it, so I ended up with Eve-Athena Pallas…but, I’ve never gone by anything other than Athena! Someday I’ll drop the Eve. And that is the story of my name. <3
Lauren says
Fabric me! My folks were going to name me “Jaima”…I know. Luckily the nurse asked my mom how one would spell such a name and that sealed it for my mom and went with a more normal name. She wore “Lauren” from Ralph Lauren perfume at the time.
Crystal H. says
Fabric me! I don’t think there’s any particular special meaning to my name. I guess it was a popular name when I was born. I like it because I don’t know a lot of people with that same name.
CaitlinAnne says

Cindy says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning behind my name…just a name.
Britt @ Creating Space for Five says
FABRIC ME! I think my mom had a friend who had a daughter named Brittany, and she was adorable, so they named me the same hoping for similar results!
My sister still makes fun of me for wanting to be named “Delta” after we flew to a vacation spot when I was 12. I am such a fool. Cant ever live that one down. I do like my name, although it did become a little white trashy after the rise and demise of Britney Spears.
Wow I have too much to say.I’ll stop there, Hope I win:)
Karrie says
Fabric me! My mom almost named me Cassiopeia. She called my aunt after I was born, who told her that she had always wanted a daughter named Karen. Thank goodness for aunt Norma!!
Jaye says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t think there is much meaning behind my name – it was just one my parents liked, and turns out – it’s quite fitting! My first name though (I got by my middle – always have) was after my mother’s godmother, who my mother was also named after. A nice little connection for all three of us.
Heather says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning for the my first name, but my middle name is the same as my dad and grandpa.
Grace says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special behind the name, at least not that I know of.
Ami says
FABRIC ME! My first name means “loved” and my middle name means “darling”… Also my parents spelt my middle name with a C, otherwise my initials would have been ASS. I’ve always hated having to spell my first name out for everyone, but I love having something with a different twist. side name-related note: we also have a chihuahua whose nickname is Bean! (Now if we just name our child Burger…)
Laura says
Fabric Me!!
I like to think my parents named me after James Taylor (my middle name), but they claim it isn’t true. I think they just liked the names.
lindsay r. says
Fabric Me!
There’s no real back story to my name, but my dad sure is happy my mom didn’t insist on calling me ingrid.
Allison Kulpa says
Fabric me! My first name was just one my parents thought of at the hospital. My dad wanted to name me Stephanie, but my mom worked with a woman named Stephanie and she didn’t like her, so that idea was nixed. Hah. I always wished my name was Charlotte, for some reason.. My middle name, Grace, was my maternal great great grandmother’s name. And I’m probably one of the most ungraceful people ever.
Jennifer K says
Fabric Me!
I was born in the Netherlands. My parents were going to name me heather, but the problem was the Dutch can’t pronounce the TH sound very well, so it would sound more like header. So they ended up with jennifer.
Katie says
Fabric me!
Named after my great-grandmother Kathryn.
Joell says
Fabric me!! I’m joell because all the men in my family are Joel but no one in my parents generation had a boy!
Jenni says
FABRIC ME! Please…I am a fabric junkie and proud of it.
My name was liked and agreed upon by both parents. Little did they know it seems lots of people at the time liked it too, as I was one of eight Jennifer’s in a graduating class size of 80. My mom and I share a middle name and I’ve always liked that.
Cheryl P says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning behind my name.
Mandy says
“FABRIC ME!” No odd meaning behind my name, and I think my parents just liked it. Although my middle name, Joy, was after my mom’s twin sister, Joyce. When I was little I wished I could change my name, but now it’s just who I am and I really don’t think about it at all!
Carly says
Fabric me!!
Nothing special about my name… I was born when Carly Simon was popular. Not that they really liked her music, they just liked the name. :) Middle name is Mikenna. Again, no reason other than they liked it!
