After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
My mom and dad gave my sisters and myself a name that could have a nickname. I guess my mother always wanted that option as a girl.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!! I have the same initials as my dad, my sister has my moms middle name.
Valerie Quinn says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the totally 80’s song “Valerie” by Steve Winwood – unfortunately that song is better known for its remix “Call On Me” by Eric Prydz which stars hotties in spandex thong bodysuits and manages to leave out my name entirely :)
Greta says
Fabric me please
My mom liked the name. I’ve only met one or two other Gretas in my life and people always call me Gretchen.
Michelle says
“FABRIC ME!” My dad had a friend that was smart and a leader. He named me after her because he wanted me to be like her.
Cassie B says
FABRIC ME!!
My mom said she liked the name Cassie from a character on One Life to Live. And she liked Sondra. And Cassondra was born. I like my name. When I was little and played secretary (yes..) I would use the name Rebecca. But still like mine more. :)
Lisa A says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name Voyce was my maternal grandfather’s middle name. He had no idea where it came from as no one else in his family had the name. I have not been able to find out much, but lately it has shown up with limited frequency when I google it. I have always loved it because it is so unusual.
Emily says
FABRIC ME! Like many commenters before me, my names came from ancestors!
Alison says
FABRIC ME! There’s no meaning behind my name except that I think it was the name of a daughter of a guy my dad worked with! My daughter’s name is Rowan though (different for a girl) as a tribute to my late stepdad and my son will be Michael after my dad:-)
Kristen says
Fabric me!
No significance. To my name, parents just liked it!
Ej says
Fabric me!!! Not named after any one just names my parents liked and i actually love my name! Unique but not common or weird!
Heather says
FABRIC ME! I was given the name Heather after my Dad’s Scottish heritage. Heather is a purplish-pink WEED (!) so you can imagine how great of a nickname that was, growing up. That or “shrub.”
Jesse Lee says
FABRIC ME!!!! My first name has no real signifigance. However, my middle name is China because my dad thought I looked like a china doll.
Lauren says
“FABRIC ME!”
My middle name is Bennett- now very common for boys, but in the 80’s – a weird name for a girl. Bennett is my middle name, my dad’s middle name and my great-grandmother’s maiden name. I was born on her birthday! So while sometimes I wished to have a more girly name, my name has a story with awesome people behind it, and that’s awesome.
Kate F. says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my granddad’s favorite aunt. A cool lady, she was known for being a pilot (pretty unheard of for a woman back then) and raising jack russel terriers.
Ellen says
Fabric me!
My name is Ellen , which means bright spirit. My Mom often told me that I am a bright spirit and I always appreciated hearing it!

Fabric Me please!
My parents picked my name because it means honey bee. As a child I was always terrified by bee but now I know what important pollinators honey bees are and I dream of one day being a backyard bee keeper!

FABRIC ME! My name means mysterious…although my parents just picked it because they liked how it sounded.

Tammy says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the Debbie Reynolds movies in the ’50s – specifically Tammy and the Bachelor. Its a classic flick – especially with a young Leslie Nielson, before he went all Airplane! on us.
Jennifer says
Fabric me! Although I’ve always liked my name it doesn’t have a cool meaning. It was really important for my childrens’ names to have neat meanings though. All four were well thought out & are super special :-)
Britt says
Fabric me, please! My name means “strong” and I think my mom may have regretted naming a very stubborn, Norwegian child that during the 3-18 year old phase…. :)
Holly Tompkins says
FABBBBBBBRIC ME!
My name is Holly Claire, it doesn’t get much better than being named after a plant…….lol.
But really my mom picked my first name from a General Hospital character and “Claire” from the Cosby show.
Erika Atkins says
Fabric ME!! I was named after my father, Eric.
Erin says
Fabric me! My parents are kind of obsessed with Ireland…so they named me Erin.
Megan Johnson says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning here, my parents thought it was a unique name in the 80’s – there were 4 “Megan”s in my eighth grade class ;)
Hope Arroyo says
My parents love telling me that they named me Hope, hoping that I would be better than my brother! I love reminding him of that now!
Nina says
FABRIC ME! My nickname, Nina, is short for my real name Janina and it’s also my great grandmother’s name. I was actually named after my mom and she was named after a Polish actress/model whose husband was an ambassador that fled from Poland when it was under dictatorship. They came to the States and were on their way to Hollywood when their car broke down in Dallas. They began several restaurants in Dallas, which were popular with celebrities and movie stars in the 50s and one of them is still a fancy place to dine today, The Old Warsaw. When my grandmother met the actress at a Dude Ranch in Texas in the 50’s and loved her name and promised to name her daughter after her. They kept up for awhile but eventually lost touch. Years later, when my mom was an adult, she decided she wanted to meet her namesake so she looked them up in the phone book and called and made a date to go to their home in Dallas. On the day before she was supposed to meet her, my mom had a feeling something was wrong and called the house. A housekeeper answered and said that Janina had died that morning. Obviously, she was never able to meet her, but she did meet Janina’s husband, Stansilaw, and our family kept up with him for years until his death. When he died we got some neat Polish “artifacts” from their homeland and we have some beautiful pictures of Janina from her modeling days. I always hated my name growing up because it was different (It’s pronounced Ja-nee-nah, but it can sound a lot like a dirty word if you sound out Janina!) And Nina was easier to go by since my mom and I shared a name in the same house. But I sure appreciate the interesting backstory!
Shae says
Fabric me! No special significance, just something my parents liked! I used to dislike how unusual my name is, but now I like it.
Alana sine says
Fabric me!
My name was a compromise between my parents. My first name is from my dad and my middle name fom my mom.
Venetta says
“FABRIC ME!”
I am named after my wonderful aunt.
Dusty says
FABRIC ME! My mom never had an ultrasound, the doctor saying my heartbeat was so strong I just had to be a boy. So, my name was going to be Dusty. And then I came out a girl. And Dusty stuck. Apparently, it’s also a name of a character on “Dallas” that my parents loved. I used to hate it, but now I love it because hardly anyone else has my name.
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
No special reason behind my parents choosing my name. But I like it either way:)
Barbara says
Fabric me! I go by my middle name, Barbara, after a paternal aunt (this was my parent’s doing, not mine)….I’m 28 years old and have only met 1 other Barbara my age. My first name is actually Jennie, and I think that name probably fits me better.
Ariane says
FABRIC ME !
I know that my parents wanted to call me Caroline the first 8 months 1/2 and then they switched to Ariane. I’m soooo glad ! My name is not very common here in France (it’s a name from the Mythology) and I often get compliments on it.
Sarah E. says
Fabric Me!
My parents gave all of us bible names… that’s about it! :) I love my name!
Teresa says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my paternal great-grandmother. I actually love my name and like that it is not spelled with an “h”..Theresa.
Rachel says
Fabric Me!
My name is pretty common for the year I was born (Rachel Marie in ’81) so when I got married I decided to take my name into my own hands and legally changed my middle name to my maiden name in order to keep my family name along with using my husband’s while not having to hyphenate! Plus today was the first time I had someone ask me about my middle name because it makes no sense as one and they were like… wha?? :)
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name, Rae, is after my grandpa Ray. My daughter’s middle name is Rae also.
Margaret F says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my grandmother. My daughter told me it would be ok if I change my name since all she calls me is my mom. After pondering a new name, I realized the old fashioned name actually suits me.
Rachael says
FABRIC ME!!
I don’t have any special story in regards to my name, but it is spelled different than most people with the same name. ;)
Michele C says
Fabric Me! Please! I am buying the stuff all the time. I was to be named Gina for Lollabrigida, but my dad’s cousin took the name first for her new girl. So, they swung to the maternal family tradition of French girls’ names, thus, Michele with accent grave over the first “e.” It’s been a great name! — Michele
Jennie says
FABRIC ME!
dee says
Fabric Me! My Mom had a friend who had twin girls named Debbie and DeeDee so that is what she named me and my sister.
Tarnya Cook says
FABRIC ME
(Woohoo its international) well my parents named me TaRnya which confuses europeans and americans as they have a tendency to pronounce my name the way it is spelt anyway. But in Australia if you don’t have the R you will be called Tan-ya, so my parents spelt my name TARNYA as thats how they wanted it pronounced, and while my dad was at it doing my birth certificate he wasn’t sure how to spell Nicole so my middle name is Nichole! ha.
