After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME : not particularity attached to my names meaning (resurrection) but I do love that is is not very common. I even like that people mostly pronounce it wrong when reading it, that just opens the conservation to talk about it. I love my name. The Sta part sounds like STAY and the cia part sounds like SHUT without the T. (STAY-Shuh)

FABRIC ME!
My name means ‘ash meadow’, and whilst it wasn’t chosen for its meaning, it suits me perfectly as I am the environmental hippie of my family! When naming my children, though, I would love to pick names based on their meaning and family connections….for example, I love the name Elena Rae (‘Ray’ of ‘light’) and my grandfathers name is Ray :)
Pamela says
FABRIC ME! My name means “all honey”, & “sweet one”…can’t argue with that. :) I do love my name.
lane says
Fabric me, please! My name means what it says – a road. The leader of the wacky religious group my parents joined (in the 60’s) named me. I have no clue exactly what he was thinking when he did.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME! The meaning behind my name is “love” or “lovable” and my parents chose it from the Don William’s song of the same name. They say they knew I was a girl before they had me and never had the benefit of a sonogram. I always wished I had a different name because Amanda is such a common name-I work with three different Amanda’s! But if they had to name me that, the least they could have done is named me after Boston’s “Amanda.” =)
carol says
FABRIC ME! I’m pretty sure my parents named me after Carol Brady. It made me very hesitant to ever date anyone named Mike.
Ellen says
FABRIC ME! Ok, so my parents changed my name so many times that they actually just called me “baby” for the first eight months of my life as they switched between four different names. This totally infuriated my great grandmother who had to unpick the very technical “Meredith” out of my hand-knitted baby sweater! She waited awhile before she actually re-knitted it as my parentals debated over more legal name changes.
Then my dad wanted to call me Helen, but mom said it was too old fashioned, so it became Ellen. Like Degeneres! I am in awe of her amazingly awesome dance moves…
Catherine says
FABRIC ME!
My parent’s named me after a teacher of my eldest sister. She was a particularly lovely person apparently so they used her name for me. Even though it went against their rule of trying to use names that couldn’t be shortened. I have always liked it and wouldn’t want to change it.
Autumn says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my Dad’s favorite season, deer hunting season! LOL! Whether that’s true or not… I’ve always loved it!
Haley says
Fabric Me!! I am named after my dad’s best friend Robert Haley.
Ida says
FABRIC ME! I think my name means goddess, or a mountain of some sort. I prefer godess.
Wendy B. says
“FABRIC ME!”
Lore has it that my name was created by J.M.Barrie for the story Peter Pan.
Whitney S says
FABRIC ME!
It sounds silly, but my mother had a dream. I don’t know the details, but I know it determined both my and my brother’s names.
sara d says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for my maternal grandmother; there’ve been seven Saras on her side of the family since the 1770s (sometimes going by Sadie or Sallie). Not very exciting, though my dad has wanted to call me Wenceslaus if I were a boy. I lucked out! I did mind having such a common name when I was younger, and would have preferred something more like Daffodil or Tennessee.
Molly says
Fabric me! My dad named me after a dog called Molly at a customers house….not romantic but I do like my name.
Rachel M. says
Fabric me! My first name isn’t very significant but my maiden name is quite interesting and unforgettable “bytheway ” which means just that… The prepositional phrase. It’s rumored among my family that it was given to a baby that was found on the side of the road. I always got jokes about it and was a little reluctant to give the name up when I got married.
aminah says
FABRIC ME!
Named after the great prophet’s (Muhammad S.A.W.) mother.
Breeanna says
FABRIC ME! I think my mom chose my name because it was not used too much back in the 80’s. And she came up with the spelling because it was different. I’ve never wanted a different name, I couldn’t see myself as anyone else!
Geri A. says
Fabric Me! My parents picked my name because it was “short and sweet.” I love it now, because the only other people with my name are generally over 80 or Spice Girls.
Allison says
Fabric me! My middle name is after my great grandmother!
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME! Named after my mom, who is really named Becky and goes through life answering the inevitable question with, “yes, that’s my name. I know my own name.” Funny story, her grandmother didn’t like the name Rebecca, so she was named Becky, but I ended up Rebecca.
Almost as good as my grandmother who went through life as Mary Evelyn instead of Evelyn Lane, the name on her birth certificate, because one of her 7 older siblings told Aunt Mary the new baby had been named after her.
Jenny says
FABRIC ME!
My parents knew someone distantly who had a Jennifer Kate and they always loved the combination. It took them four tries to get a girl to use the name for though! ;)
Ps I’ve ordered over 60 yards of fabric in the last month for our new house! And still more needed, awesome giveaway!
Lindsay Paul says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my name because of an actress who was popular at the time (Lindsay Wagner). They chose it mainly because they liked the name, and it wasn’t very common at the time – especially not the spelling, and less for the actress herself haha
Jeannine says
Fabric Me!!
No special meaning behind my name!!
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a family friend who had a glorious vegetable garden.
Jenny says
FABRIC ME!
If I was born with red hair, my name would have been Megan. However, I was born with black hair so I was named Jenny. It all fell out and turned red anyways. :)
Lindsay Paul says

Emily O'Brien says
Fabric Me!
My parents are from Taiwan and they thought the name Emily was pretty. Of course, they had no idea how common the name was at the time. I like my name now, but remember wanting to be a “Jennifer” back in elementary school. Jennifers always seemed to be popular!
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!
My mother named me after the Rachel in the Bible. My mom says that when she was still pregnant with me, my grandma thought my name was so old fashioned sounding – Rachel Ann. I like that it’s simple and not super-duper popular or some crazy “trying so hard to be unique that it gets the child teased in school” name.
Jeannine says
Fabric Me!!
No special meaning behind my name!!
Savitha says
Fabric me…. I am Savitha cause my elder sister is kavitha and my twin sister is sunitha… My names means “sun” in Sanskrit . And hate that my parents thought rhyming our names was such a great idea….
Irina @ Chocolatea Time says
Fabric me! I’m not sure what the meaning behind my name is (I think it stands for peace or something) but I do know that my grandpa went to the hospital and named me without anyone’s knowing!
Judy says
Fabric me! People have some great names on here–mine seems to belong to blond former cheerleaders in their 60s. oh well.
Stacy says
Fabric Me!
I have my Gram’s first name as my middle name. I have always felt we had a special bond because of it!. Now, I love family names! I plan to give our future children family names, so they can have that same special connection with a loved one.
Hitu says
Fabric Me!
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!! My name means princess in the Bible, and my parents chose that because of its Biblical significance- for its meaning and character :-)
JSKF says
FABRIC ME! My maiden name means goat farmer in Polish. I kept it as my middle name when I got married because who can get rid of a name like that!?
heather says
Fabric me! And it was the 1st name my parents could agree on so they stopped there!
Melora says
Fabric me! My parents supposedly read it somewhere & liked it, although most often people ask me if it’s Hawaiian.
Alissa says
Fabric Me,
I’m named after my mom’s best friend because I was born on her birthday!!!
Ruth says
Fabric me! Ruth means friend or companion. My parents wanted a good bible name that sounded good with our last name. My dad brought in baby ruth candy bars to work after i was born to celebrate. I used to hate my name as a kid (at one point I thought the name chrystal was the most beautiful name ever.) I Especially hated it when I was called ruthie. When I was ten I was determined to break everyone of the habit and I refused to answer to it. Thankfully my parents had a heart and respected my wishes! (I never could retrain my grandpa! He still calls me ruthie! But I love it coming from him:)) As I got older I came to appreciate that my name is unique in this generation and I think it suits my unique personality very well! Now I love my name:) (did I mention I also love fabric which is why I’m actually entering this contest? I never win so I stopped trying. But $250 worth of fabric is a good enough reason for me to make an exception! Thanks for the opportunity!) uh, this is one long comment! Sorry someone is stuck actually reading it all! ~ Ruth Elizabeth
lindsay d says
No special significance that I’m aware of:-) But I’ve always like my name.

Brittany says
FABRIC ME! No story behind my name, but I was always kind of disappointed by how arbitrary this seemed so both of my kids have names with family significance.
sbridgett27 says
FABRIC ME!!!
Apparently,my 10 letter long name means Joy!!!
Lauren says
Fabric me! My name doesn’t have my significance. I know had I been a boy, it would have been Robert. A possible girl’s name was also Diane. Glad they went with Lauren. :-)
Addy says
FABRIC ME!
My mom grew up in a town where there was a Tricia L, Tricia M, Tricia S, and Tricia R. So, my mom wanted to make sure that our names were unique where we weren’t distinguished by our last name. Upon naming me there was only one other Addyson in our state.
Shelby says
Fabric Me!!
neree says
Fabric Me!
My name is ancestral. My dad scoured both my parents’ family trees until he found a (way back) common ancestor… and they names me after her!
Nathaly says
FABRIC ME!
My mom picked my name out of a paper bag of names she liked! She couldn’t settle on one and kept changing her mind and that was her way of settling. People are always thrown off by the spelling of my name Nathaly (pronounced Natalie). They always emphasize the H but I politely tell them its silent :)
Camille says
FABRIC ME! My parents initially chose the name Barbara because in Spanish its a variation of the word “troublemaker” (gosh! Thanks!). Fortunately they decided against it and named me after my aunt, Camille.
