After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Melissa Irvin says
Fabric Me, Please!
No meaning behind my name. Had I been a boy, I would be Michael Joseph. My middle name is my aunt’s middle name – other than that, nada!
Cindy S. says
FABRIC ME!!!
Supposedly my name means “light.”
When I was little, I wished I’d been named Cynthia, rather than Cindy. I thought it sounded more sophisticated, and worried that it would be weird to be an old lady named Cindy. I eventually got over it. ;)
Stephanie G says
FABRIC ME!
My mom chose the name Stephanie because of a Shoppers Drug Mart commercial that featured a high-powered and beautiful executive named Stephanie addressing a room in some kind of board meeting. Despite the origin I have always liked it and thought it suited me well. :)
Carli says
FABRIC ME! I was named Carli after Carly Simon (even though it is speller differently) and my middle name, Georgia, is after my parent’s best friend.
ashley o says
Fabric me!
Ha! I just read another person named Ashley after a soap opera star… I say ditto (and since we know how popular the name got, I don’t think that we are the only 2). Even though it’s common, I have never disliked it. But man, when it comes to naming your kid, it’s crazy to pick something so permanent!

robynn says
FABRIC ME! my name serves as a testament to the fact that spelling can be challenging follow a long labor. i did not like it as a kid, but like it more as an adult.

Margaret says
FABRIC ME!! I love that cherry-blossom print! I actually love my name (I’m named after my aunt) because it’s old-fashioned enough to be rare, but not too weird. I almost never met other Margarets my age, which was nice. I pitied the Jessicas and Ashleys who had to share their name with other girls. :-)
Rebecca says
Fabric me!
Nothing in a my name that I know of. I love names with meanings though!
Christy Grap says
FABRIC ME!! My name comes from the book Christy by Catherine Marshall. My mom had read it when she was in high school and thought the character was the kind of daughter that she would like to have.
Ruth in NZ says
Fabric Me!
My first name was after an aunt but my middle name was a bit of a muddle. My father registered my name and left the last “e” off the end so I have been “Lynell” all my life and often have people ask if it’s pronounced “li” “nil”..hmmm, my mother thought it was a lovely Frenchy variation on her name Lynne.
Jessica says
Fabric me!! I’m named after an 80’s Alman Brothers song :)
Fiona says
Fabric me!
I’ve never thought much about my name, however when I was in America 15 years ago (I’m Australian) so many people told me how uncommon it was!
Katherine Hendricks says
Fabric me! My cousin and I were born the exact same day and the first granddaughter was supposed to be named after my grandmother. However since my mom and her sister were in labor at the same time my mom let my aunt name my cousin after our grandmother because my aunt was the oldest even though I was born a few hours earlier!
Bryna says
My dad’s name is Bryan and he was in charge of naming me. He came across “Bryna” in a baby book and the rest is history. It is pronounced like Renee with a B at the beginning. It is frustrating having to correct people in how to say it, but I do like that I have a unique name.
FABRIC ME!!!!
Carmel (Solomon Sewing) says
FABRIC ME! (Woohoo, giveaway open world-wide and it happens to be one of my favourite things, FABRIC!)
I’m not sure if there is any story behind my name really, except my parents liked it and it’s Hebrew, meaning “God’s Vinyard” which fitted in with my Catholic background. I didn’t really like it, growing up, but it has grown on my over the years. I like that it isn’t common but not so rare that it could be made up. It’s interesting, without being “frilly”.
Tracy W says
FABRIC ME!
I was born in 1970 and there was a lovely 1969 song by The Cuff Links(!) called Tracy. It’s a bubblegum masterpiece! Ahhh, the 70’s…

There was no story behind my name…but my parents intended for me to be double-named “Katie Lee”…this stuck for 10 years ’til my 5th grade attitude popped up and I demanded that the Lee be dropped…whoops!

There is no interesting story behind my name. I always wanted one with a boyish nickname. Ironically, my mother’s family all have nicknames. I wonder if she secretly hated having a nickname–not the nickname itself, but having two names.
Dana Homb says
fabric me
Dana-well my mom wanted to name me Jesse but my dad said that Jesse was a girl’s name, so they somehow felt the name Dana seemed like a more masculine choice.

The month before my mother was due to have me, she lost her older sister in a horrible crash. I am named after my mother’s beloved sister…whom she lost too soon.

All of my siblings and I have family names and I LOVE it! My daughter is the 8th Catherine Hope in my family. Women’s names so often get lost in generational traditions and I am thrilled to cary on the tradition.

My mom’s younger sister, Darlene, was always called “Jodi Blonde” by her favorite uncle. Apparently, Waylon Jennings, Buddy Holly, and King Curtis sang a song called “Jolie Blon” in 1958, that some people thought was “Jodi Blonde”. So my mom named me Jodi, after her younger sister’s nickname! And I was always my Aunt Darlene’s favorite…of course! :)

Fabric me! My parents actually “borrowed” my name. My moms friend named her daughter Kirsten first but lived in Australia at the time and no one in the hospital could pronounce it so they ended up changing her name to Kristen. A few years later when I was born my mom still liked the name so used it for me.
