After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning, just trendy I think.
Diane says
FABRIC ME, PLEEEAZZZE….my name has no special meaning behind it. But that doesn’t mean I don’t feel special. :-) And winning this drawing for fabric would make me feel REALLY special!! :)
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just liked the name, no great story attached (and it means “crowned one”)!
Valerie says
Fabric Me! My parents just liked Valerie, I was apparently almost a “Denise” which doesn’t suit me at all.
Ruth P. says
FABRIC ME
Mine was a family name, I believe. I like that it’s short and recognizable, but not overused in my generation.
caroline says
Fabric me (please)!!!!! No special story about my name but curious
that I’m only one in family with no middle name & also only one that’s
left handed.
Kari C. says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is the female version of my dad’s first name. I always wished my name started with an L when I was younger because when I was learning cursive as a kid, I thought Ls were so pretty :)
Mary Sterck says
FABRIC ME!! In 1959 I had the most common of all girl names and in the small town that I grew up in we had 3 in my class. I was known as Mary G.
Annie says
FABRIC ME!
My great grandma’s name was Ann and they called her Annie. Also, my grandma & aunt’s middle names are Ann.
Amanda Falk says
Fabric me!!!! Amanda means beloved or loved one. My parents had my sister, then tried for years for number 2 but no luck then adopted my brother. Shortly after, SURPRISE!!! My mom got pregnant with me:)
Kari says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my dad. He is Michael Cary, so I became the female version, Kari Michele.
Lindsay Nicole says
FABRIC ME!
I desperately need to recover our dining chairs. As for my name it means peaceful isle. I don’t always feel peaceful so something to aspire to I think!
Tracy B says
FABRIC ME! My name means industrious. I am a triplet and there are three girls and I think my parents probably played paper rock scissors to see who got what name!
Christie says
FABRIC ME!!
I think my parents just liked the name. They would have named me Christopher if I was a boy.
Eve says
Fabric Me! My name was something entirely different for the first few days of my life, and then people told my mom it was awful and made her change it. True story!
Janet says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just picked my name out of a baby name book. Sadly, it has no particular significance. :-(
Liz C says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve been told my name is Hebrew for “beloved of God”, but there’s no specific meaning to my family for it. I like to pretend I’m in a club populated mostly by Queens of England.
(They almost named me for both my grandmothers, which would have been Thelma Gilberta. Dear Mama: Thank you for not doing that to me. Love, Liz)
Suzy says
FABRIC ME!
After having 2 girls, my parents thought their 3rd baby would be a boy. They chose Aaron, but when they found out they were having another girl, Erin was becoming a popular girl’s name. And so they named me Erin Suzanne… and I literally have no memories of them ever calling me Erin. They starting calling me Suzy when I was little, and it stuck. I’m glad, because I think it fits me so much better!
Andrea Motschenbacher says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name is Andrea. My mother named me, she was torn between that and Yvette. When I came she took one look at me and said “Well, she’s not an Yvette!”
Karen@RestyledVintage says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Karen which is fairly standard for a child of the 1970’s, which I am. However my parents and aunts and uncles all call me Coke. Yes I do love to drink the stuff, but it actually had nothing to do with that…apparently someone started it by calling me Karen kid, which got shortened to KK, then ‘coco’ then Coke. So yeah now I am a grown up married mother of two whose parents still call me Coke…but I don’t mind, in fact don’t even notice till someone hears it for the first time and are like ‘what did they just call you?’ haha ;)
LC says
FABRIC ME! No special story behind my name. My mom just had a cousin with it and she liked it. I used to always wish it were something exotic or interesting… but that’s what last names are for!
Elisabeth says
FABRIC ME!
Elisabeth = Queen of Englands name!
Amanda M. says
Fabric Me!!!
My parents named me after a tv show character from a series in the 80’s. I’ve never seen the show (which I guess I could just look up on YouTube), but somehow the meaning of “being well loved” works for me ;)
Laurie says
FABRIC ME! My real name is Laurina Marie. I was named by my real fathers pastor. Sadly my dad drowned when my mother was 7 months pregnant (he was trying to save another man). So their pastor named me.
natalie t says
Fabric me! My name has to do with Christmas.
Naomi W. says
FABRIC ME! Before I was born, my parents came up with a list of names for me. My brothers and sister did not like the names. SO my parents told the kids to come up with a name. I was named after two Bible characters – Naomi and Ruth. I do love my name. Naomi Ruth
Susan says
Fabric me. :)
My mom named every doll she ever played with as a kid Susie. Dad wouldn’t agree to that but they compromised on Susan.
Jill says
FABRIC ME! My parents had my named picked out as Sarah for the longest time, but once I was born they both took one look at me and changed their minds! They said I seemed more like a Jill so they went with it. It wasn’t even a name on their original list, but they said they just knew it was right :-)
Sara R says
Fabric me! My parents named me after a Hall and Oates song… They also thought it would be unique…until I got into grade school and had 3 other kids with my name in my grade. ;). Always liked my name though.
Danielle Blake says
Fabric me!
Danielle : my mother’s father is French and since her name is Michelle she wanted a French name for me too.
Tanzy : my parents made up my middle name my father was born in Tanzania.
Jackie C says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is after my one of my dad’s best friends who he was in the Vietnam war with, my first name I guess they just liked! :)
Christie says
FABRIC ME! I go by Christie but my full name, Christina, means follower of Christ. My parents knew they wanted to call me Christie, and they spelled it with a C and an -ie instead of a K and a -y because they thought people would call me Rice Kristy. Actual thought process.
Lindsay T says
Fabric me!
My parents hadn’t picked a name by the time my mom went into labor. They went through a baby name book between contractions, starting at “A”, and Lindsay was the first name they agreed on. (My middle name, Samantha, was the second.)
Stephanie says
Fabric me!! Nothing special, but I like it!
margaret says
Fabric me!
I’m sure Margaret means something, but I AM glad that my parents didn’t name me Louise, which is what they were initially going to go with. Thank goodness! :)
Emma says
Fabric Me!
My parents picked a short easy to manage name as my surname was such a mouthful :)
Laurie says
FABRIC ME!!! PLEASE! OK–I love talking about my name! Mum loved the song Annie Laurie and wanted to name me that, but since I have a French last name, my dad thought it would only work if we changed our last name to MacDucharme! Since that was never going to happen, I became Laurie Anne. We moved away from Canada and I grew up in So. Calif., and when I was just past 1 yr. old, I met my best friend for life, whose name was also Laurie Anne (same spelling!). We are still the best of friends, and we always loved that we had the same name! We think (still–what geeks) that we are super special and that our friendship was in both our fates. We believed as wee girls that we always knew each other before we were born! I just love my name! :)
Karey says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from my aunt, whose name is Karen. When she was a little girl, they called her Karey, so that’s the name I got!
Tipling says
FABRIC ME!
My dad made up my first name, Tipling. It doesn’t have any special meaning besides the initial of his name (T). It is strange and unusual and I knew how to spell it by age 3 as everyone just said “what?” when I told them my name. It fits me though, and I can’t imagine being called anything else. Although my husband says he is changing my name to Kate…..
Katy says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Kathryn but my older sisters dubbed me Katy. I grew up in Texas where the Katy Railroad ran and I loved that my name was a railroad.
Betsy says
Fabric me!
eileen says
fabric me!
jennifer says
FABRIC ME! Not sure why my parents chose Jennifer but they weren’t the only ones that year. I was Jennifer S. all through elementary school, one of 5 in my class.
Melissa says
FABRIC ME! I have my mom’s middle name. My daughter has my mother-in-law’s first name as her middle name, and my son has part of my maiden last name as his middle name.
Cindy says
FABRIC ME! I am pretty sure my name was on one of those most popular baby names lists. Because growing up there were always other girls with my EXACT same name. Seriously, first, middle and last. It was strang.
Bethany Annechino says
FABRIC ME!!
My mother picked my name from a baby book because she liked it. She coincidentally took ceramics classes at a place in town called Bethany Gardens. And she liked that it was biblical. The other contender for a girl name was Sarah Elizabeth. Bethany Lynne was a better choice. Smart mom.
Moana says
FABRIC ME! My name means “a body of water” in Maori, the native language of New Zealand, my nick name is Bean, because when I was a baby I was tiny and very skinny!
Arika says
Fabric Me!
My first name was chosen simply becuase my mom liked it. But my middle name, Valarie, is after my father, Val.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
My parents went with the whole J names for the entire family. I was suppose to be a girl and they were fighting over Jordan or Joseph and then I came out a girl and solved the fight since they had Jennifer picked out when my older brother was born.
