After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric Me! No special meaning to my name other than my parents liked it :)
Krystn says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my name after seeing it in the newspaper. I’ve always wondered if it was a typo because of the no vowel thing. I love my name. And I love it even more because of the unique spelling.
Cristina says
FABRIC ME!
My name is actually legally misspelled. My parent’s named my Christina but the nurse filled out my birth certificate as Cristina (no H). My mother didn’t realize the mistake until she registerd me for kindergarten. By then she didn’t want to go thru the paperwork for one missing letter ;)
Brenda Gallagher says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Brenda Lee and my parents chose it because their favorite singer was Brenda Lee.
Meghan says
Fabric Me!!
My mom swears she just picked it because she liked it, but my grandmother always said she named me after Meggie in the Thornbirds – the woman who cheated on her husband for years with a much-older-than-her Catholic priest.
Liz says
FABRIC ME!
I am named for my maternal Grandmother, who was a dear saint of a woman. The name Elizabeth means ‘consecrated to God’ so living like her usually means I’m living my way into my name.
Kala says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning behind my name (that I know of), although my parents did officially change the spelling 2 different times because people were always mispronouncing it!
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!! My mom just liked the way “Ashley Marie” sounds so voila! My name! My great grandmother’s name was Marie, so it added a little bit of sentimentality, but mostly it was just the two most popular names at the time.
Mary says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my Grandmother!
Monica says
Fabric me!
My name was chosen after a doctor from the “hit” daytime running soap opera General Hospital!
Still to this day I don’t know many Monica’s. :)
Rebekka says
FABRIC ME!!
My parents just liked the name Rebekka, and chose the alternate spelling to make my life difficult. Just kidding- I love my name AND the spelling, and after 31 years, I’ve just accepted the fact that it will be perpetually misspelled by others.
Aimee says
I hear ya! And a lifetime of coffee cups with the wrong name on them. It doesn’t matter but I hate drinking out of cups that say AMY. :-(
megan says
Fabric me!
My mom named me after the character Meggie in the novel The Thorn Birds.
Katie M. says
Fabric me!
I was supposed to be named something else, spelled with 9 letters. My dad didn’t like the name, but argued that a 9 letter name would be too tough for a child to learn to spell. They instead named me “Katherine” – which also has nine letters. :) Apparently my mom didn’t notice.
Jessica M. says
Fabric me!! I was named after my “aunt” who wasn’t really my actual aunt but was my dad’s best friend’s wife. It’s always been really special to me because she is the one of the coolest/most awesome-est people I know.
Steph says
Fabric Me! There’s no special meaning behind my name…
Bridey says
Fabric me!! My name came from an early Hailey Mill’s movie, “Gypsy Girl”. It’s a common Irish name and I know there are some in the US, but I have actually never met another.
Megan H. says
FABRIC ME!
I was born on Christmas Eve and my mom wanted to go all out with the Christmas themed name of Holly Noel. Luckily, my father talked her down from that one and now my name is Megan. I am the only one of my siblings to not have a ‘family name.’
Chelsea says
FABRIC ME!
My (maiden) last name is incredibly common, and my parents didn’t want it to be a very common first name too, so they searched forever, and finally, at my mom’s baby shower, they played a “Name the Baby” game where they suggested names. They both loved Chelsea (at the time, it was pretty uncommon, but it caught on). They loved the Joni Mitchell song, “Chelsea Morning”, and the movie “On Golden Pond”, which features a Chelsea.
Jenna at Homeslice says
Fabric me!
Apparently my parents had a hard time choosing a name for me, and in the end one of my mom’s best friends suggested it.
Great giveaway!
Amy says
FABRIC ME!! My dad had a great-aunt named Amy, but my parents just liked the name. The spelling of my middle name (Lynne) is after my mom’s college roomie and best friend.

FABRIC ME!! Jennifer was my mom’s favorite name. As a kid she called all of her dolls Jennifer!
Casey says
FABRIC ME!
My dad suggested my name and my mom fell in love. I’ve always liked it. :)
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!
My name carries no significant meaning unfortunately. Jessica was a name that was not popular when my mom named me that, but she quickly discovered that everyone else that year named their child Jessica as well!
Jennifer Franklin says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer Lynn, chosen so I would have the same initials as my dad John Lewis – JL. When I was 5 and started school, there were 3 other Jennifer’s in my class so I got called Lynn. I hated it, I felt like it was unfair and I got cheated for being the last Jennifer on roll call. So years later when I got divorced and moved to Atlanta I had everyone call me by my “real” name again, I have been Jennifer to all my friends and coworkers for the last 20 years but my family still calls me Lynn.
AshleyMG says
FABRIC ME! Please!!!! My sister named me. I think there was a girl in her preschool class with this name and so she convinced my parents to use it for me.
Carrie says
Fabric me!
My name came from a dream that my dad had shortly before I was born. In it, I was a little blonde three year old named Carrie. He told me that when I was three, I looked just like the little girl in his dream.
Sharon S says
Fabric Me.
I believe my mommy just liked my first name, my middle name is her name which I have never felt like it belonged to me since it is her name…thus when naming my own children I just picked middle names that I loved, not after anyone…so they totally belong to them.
Cortney D says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name is also the only one my parents could agree on. Which was good I ended up being a girl because if I had been a boy I might still be nameless.
Sarah Tiambeng says
FABRIC ME! My mom is a nurse so she named me after one of her favorite patients!
AMANDA S. says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my great grandmother but I have always gone by a nickname which was an aunts name.
Tiffany says
FABRIC ME!
My mom picked ‘Tiffany’ because it was different. Her in laws hated it because it sounded like ‘Tivily’ a park known for prostitution. Then funny enough if you googled my name, the first link was a porn star on IMDB. Yup.
Kristen says
FABRIC ME!
My grandmothers maiden name is Christensen. My mom was convinced I was going to be a boy, and was going to name me Christen after her mothers family name. However I popped out and happened to be a girl. Mom quickly swapped the name with a more feminine version; Kristen.
Emily R. says
FABRIC ME!
My mom is named Terry and always hated her masculine name. She wanted to come up with the most feminine name possible so she landed on Emily and then it became super popular.

FABRIC ME!!!!
My name means “little wise one” which may not have meant much to my parents at the time, but growing up I always thought I knew everything!
Nicki Parrish says
Fabric Me! I have no idea what my names mean. My real name is Nicole, but everyone who knows me calls me Nicki. I hate it when someone calls me Nicole. I know they don’t really know me if they do.
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!
My parents wanted a biblical name, hence mine. That’s the only thing though.
Jamie says
FABRIC ME! I was named after Jamie Summers, the name of the character on the “Bionic Woman” :)
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
My name means Ireland or peace. My grandmother was Irish. I hated my name as a child b/c I was teased that it was a boys name. I grew out of hating it. My husband’s name is Cary which definitely leads to some confusion when people first meet us… or at the bank drive thru window. :)
Jessica M J says
Fabric me!!! It was 1984, hoping that explains Jessica. After I was born my mom wanted to change my name to Jenni-lee. My moms name was Jennifer and dads middle is Lee, not a bad name just makes me happy to be Jessica.
LeeAnn says
FABRIC ME!
My name is a combination of both my Mother’s (Debra Ann) and Father’s (Leon) names. Kind of fortuitous because I am definitely the best mix of my parents.
Kathryn says
FABRIC ME!
I usually go by Katy. My parents just liked the name but wanted something more sophisticated for when I grew up. I’ve just begun to use Kathryn at work.
Vanessa says
FABRIC ME! My first name comes from Vanessa Redgrave, the actress. Not because my parents loved her so much (although, she is pretty great), but just because they liked her name! My middle name has a little more meaning though – it’s also my mother’s middle name and will likely be my (future) (possible) daughter’s as well.
Michelle says

I was named after my great-grandmother Lennea who was named after the Swedish flower discovered by the botanist Carol Linnaeus. Her name was spelled Linnea until she immigrated to the US and the immigration officials accidently changed the i to an e.
