After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Kelly T. says
FABRIC ME!! My name was supposed to be Daniel because the doctors told my parents that I was going to be a boy. OOPS!! My mom ended up going with Kelly because it was the first one in the name book that she really liked.
Darcy says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve seen two meanings to my name: “fortress” being one, and “dark” being the other. Origins range from Old French to English surname (Hellloooo Mr. Darcy!). That said, my Dad picked it out as soon as they learned I was to be a girl.
Ellen says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my name because they said it sounded like “Dr.” could go in front of it. I’m not a doctor, but I love that they wanted a strong name for their baby girl!
MegW says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always wanted to name a little girl by my name.
Katie F says
FABRIC ME! Both my first and middle names came from my mom’s favorite soap opera, Ryan’s Hope (a soap revolving around the family that owns an Irish pub). I come from a big Irish family so usually people assume I was named after relatives :)
Miranda says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after a friend my mom went to college with :)
Cristina M. says
Fabric me! My name is my grandma’s middle name. My middle name Isabel, is the name of my great grandma. My parents debated calling me Isabel Cristina instead of my actual name, Cristina Isabel. They also thought about combining the two and naming me Crisbel. I always wondered if a different name would make me feel or act differently…
Jen says
FABRIC ME! I’m one of the millions of Jennifers born in 1981, so apparently my parents weren’t feeling very creative. :) However I’m told my brother was really gunning for Tiffany, so I’m glad they just went with the trend!
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning, but I think my dad’s neighbour growing up gave me my middle name. She was my baby-sitter!
Brenner says
Fabric Me!
It’s my mother’s maiden name. :)
Amber says
Fabric ME!
(crossing my fingers as I desperately need to make a slip cover for my sofa!)
My name came from one of my moms college roommates, she just liked her name. I hated it when I was younger and tried to get people to call me Ember- ha ha. I’ve grown up to like it though. I like that it’s a color and a stone. All of my sisters names are colors and stones, some are plants.
Karla says
FABRIC ME!
My name doesn’t really hold any special significance in my family. My maiden name starts with a K, so I think my parents were just going for alliteration.
Sam says
Fabric Me! I was six weeks early, so they were rushed picking my name… my parents each came up with 5 names, and my name was the only one on both lists!
Megan says
FABRIC ME!! My parents thought it would be funny for my initials to go in alphabetical order (MNO). I messed it up when I got married, though :S haha
Kelli says
FABRIC ME!No special significance but my parents liked Kelli and wanted it a little different so spelled it with an ‘i’ instead of ‘y.’
mirka says
FABRIC ME!
My long first name is Miroslawa. It’s a Ukrainian name and it roughly means peace and glory.
christina says
FABRIC ME!
Huh, I have never asked my parents how my name came to be, I will have to talk to them lol
Kendall says
Fabric Me!! My Dad heard the name when they were expecting me and both my Mom and Dad loved it. I have to say they did great job – I’ve always loved my name.
nikki says
FABRIC ME!
my full name (amber nicole) came out of a romance novel. :) but, the name i go by, nikki, apparently just suited me so my parents went with that instead. :)
Jamie says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my dad and great-grandfathers on both sides of the family (James). I like to tease my mom that she spelled it wrong since a lot of people try to spell it Jaime.
Tammy H says
Fabric Me!
My name means Palm Tree or spice. So silly! Happy with my name even though I don’t necessarily identify with palm trees or spices. Hah! Love me some tropical vacations with some yummy food cooked with tropical spices. =)
Bonnie says
Fabric Me!
I love my name – I’m named after my mom’s best friend. I love that it is simple, but not common.
MadeByMeg says
FABRIC ME! As a home-sewist, I would love to get some free fabric :)
I’m named after my grandmother, and my blog name comes from, of course, making stuff!
Diane C says
FABRIC ME!
My name Is Diane and my parents choose it because they were sticking with a ‘D’ theme. Delbert and Dorothy, my brother David and me. I was almost Denise but I think Diane suits me better. Oddly enough, no one at home calls me by name so I rarely hear it. It’s either ‘mom’ from my son or ‘honeybunny’ from my fella. He was a big Pulp Fiction fan.
Dani M. says
Fabric me! My parents had planned to name me Christine, but a family member protested (he had just gotten divorced from his wife Christine), so my uncle suggested Danielle to call me Dani. I’ve been Dani ever since!
Danae G. says
FABRIC ME!
My parents discovered my somewhat unique name because it was the name of an author of a children’s book series.
Caitlin says
Fabric Me! My name is just a name my parents liked. I have always liked it though – not Catie or Cate, the full Caitlin.
Nicole S. says
Fabric me! My name means ‘victory of the people’ and us derived somehow from Nike the Greek goddess of victory.
Renee says
Fabric Me!!
My parents just really liked my name!
Anneli says
Fabric Me!!! I need fabric for so many projects!
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
My name means honesty and I tend to take that to heart.
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!
My name means honey bee which once I learned the meaning I liked. As a kid I always envied my friend’s names. Growing up though I liked how I didn’t know a bunch of people with my name.
Mimi says
FABRIC ME! I go by Mimi because when I was three I understood that “me” referred to myself. When my parents would ask me what my name was, I said, quite matter-of-factly, Mimi. Duh, parents. Haha. Anyways being the laid back folks that my parents are they decided that I wanted to be called Mimi so that’s just what they did. It has stuck ever sense!
Amy S says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after that Pure Prairie League song, you know, “Aimee, what you wanna do?” But they spelled it “Amy.” I like my name, and their spelling choice. Go, mom & dad!
Casey @ Waffling says
Fabric me!
I was originally going to be called Kathryn Carol and someone mentioned that K.C. would be a cute nickname! My parents like it so much, they just named me Casey :)
kylee says
FABRIC ME
Lauren G. says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just picked a name they liked. But I have always liked my name and have never wished it was anything else. My middle name growing up was Michelle after the beatles song and now it is my maiden name. Both have served me well.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
No cool meaning behind my name, just something my parents thought sounded pretty. :-)
Valerie says
Fabric Me!
My name is fabric, because I was meant to win this giveaway! Just kidding. Valerie (my real name) means strong (like valor), and I am strong (not like She-ra warrior princess, more like Rosa Parks; I have strong convictions), so the name fits. I was born on Valentine’s Day, and my parents were going to name me Valencia (like the orange juice), but my uncle suggested Valerie instead, I’m glad he did. :)
MaryKate says
FABRIC ME!
Berdine says
FABRIC ME!!
My middle name is Berdine, which I use online instead of my first name. It is my Grandma’s name, and my great grandmas, and her mom, on and on and on. When I was little I hated it, but now I think it’s fantastic. Unique and not in a way that is hard to pronounce and not just a “normal” name spelled differently.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
Not really any special meaning- my mom liked the name and didn’t know of anyone else named Emily!
MegW says
FABRIC ME! My mom always wanted a little girl with my name.
Lisa says
FABRIC ME! I’ve also had a hunch that I was named after the the Apple Lisa computer.
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
My name is pretty boring, but growing up it was SUCH a problem! Everyone would always ask me what my name was short for, and proceed to guess alllll the names “Kate” is short for, even after I’d told them, “It’s just Kate!!” Why couldn’t they just have named me Katherine and been done with it…
Jennifer says
“FABRIC ME!”
My name was my gradfather’s idea because he did not like the ones my parents picked out.
Ruth Ellen says
Fabric Me! My parents chose it b/c both of them were named after relatives, and they wanted to avoid that, so my siblings and I all have Bible names. However, I now have 40 first cousins, so they also tried to rule out any duplicates
Dayla says
FABRIC ME!
I’m Dayla, named after my father Dale!
Dena says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name comes from my great-grandmother and my mother’s best friend. I like it because it is very unique, but when I was younger I hated it! I always wanted to buy those random souveniers that had names on them, but I never could find mine. Boo.
Jen B. says
FABRIC ME!
Ditto what the other Jennifer said in her comment: “my parents, like thousands of other parents in 1982, thought the name “Jennifer” was beautiful and unique……”
