After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
my name is after my great grandmother (only switching the order of the first and middle name). i’ve always liked my name, but kinda went through a phase of wishing for something different in middle school when there were 5 other girls with that same name in my class. or really, i guess i wished THEY were named something different. :)
Leah says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a friend of my mom’s and my middle name was after my grandmother.
Cari says
Fabric me! I was named after a Caroline, who went by Cari (and my middle name is Lin).
Chandler Q says
Fabric Me! My name is Chandler, and my parents wanted something that was unusual and could be a name for either a boy or a girl. I love having something unique (although the FRIENDS references get a little old.) My middle name, Elizabeth, is my mother’s middle name and will be a middle name that I pass on to a future daughter!
anne says
Fabric me!!!
Anne is both of my grandmas’ middle names.
Angela says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were convinced I was a boy, so they had no girl name picked. My name was something they both loved.
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME! Oooo this would be great for new curtains!
Leslie says
Fabric Me!
No special meaning behind my name. Just something my mom liked. Although, when she told her grandma what she’d be naming me, grandma said, “why are you giving her a boy’s name?!” Time sure changed that.
Sara says
Woops! FABRIC ME! My name means princess. :)
Kelly says
FABRIC ME! My mom named me after a popular girl from her High School.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t think there was any particular significance behind my name… but after becoming Mrs. Beer (YES, like the drink) I am SO GLAD my parents didn’t have any love for Carrie, or Anita, or Amber… the list goes on and on! ;)
Yes, now you all will spend the next 5 minutes chuckling about all the names I can’t name my children… hehe.
Azure says
FABRIC ME! Azure is French for the color blue. My parents are Mike & Carol so I guess they just wanted something different. I love my name!
Kristin B says
FABRIC ME! No good story behind my name, sadly.
Jesika Davis says
Fabric Me!!!
Abby says
Fabric Me!
Middle name is after my grandma!
Kirstin says
FABRIC ME! The funnier story is about my middle name, Regan. My parents picked it from Shakespeare’s King Lear. She was one of the daughters, but unfortunately they hadn’t read it in a while and she turns out to be one of the evil daughters. I love to raz them about this, but I guess it could have been worse. The oldest evil daughter was named Goneril. I actually love my middle name and had a moment in middle school where I thought about using it for my first name.
Kris says
FABRIC ME!!!!
I was named after a character in a book that I’ve never read.
Heather B. says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Heather, but it was almost Eugenia (after my dad) or Dolly Anna (after my 2 grandmothers). Luckily, in like month 8 of my mom’s pregnancy, my parents went to an opera and a Heather was singing. They named me after her. Thank goodness!
Bethany Scoggins says
Fabric me!
I always hated that I couldn’t buy personalized mugs, barrettes, or key chains off the rack. Big deal when you are 8. I love my name now!
Allisson says
FABRIC ME!
I love that my name has an unusual spelling, although makes for people spelling my name wrong frequently.
Rachel says
FABRIC ME! No special story behind the name:)
MelissaH says
FABRIC ME!!!! Oh my, I have always loved their store, this would be a dream to receive! My mother always told me my name meant ‘sweet honey bee’ but since I was a rotten kid and can’t stand honey, it seems almost like a misnomer.
Beryl says
FABRIC ME!
My name is a precious stone’s name. I think they just picked it out from a baby names book.
Jennie H. says
Fabric me! I was given the super-original moniker “Jennifer” after a country song that my Grandma liked(The song? “Jennifer Johnson and Me”) The only reason why I liked my common name was because my Grandma would hold me her lap and sing me my “special song”.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!! My name means pure :)
shannon says
FABRIC ME! I was named after a bog in central PA…Black Moshannon Bog Natural Area. They shortened it to Shannon, and I grew up to work in the field of wetland ecology!
Ama B. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “beloved”. It was fun when I was taking Latin classes because it is literally the Latin feminine gerundive or future passive participle for “she/something who must be loved” or “she/something which is going to be loved”. It made learning those tricky tenses much easier!
It also was one of the most popular names in the years around my birth, probably helped by a popular rock song titled “Amanda” released in 1986. As a result, I’ve always ended up in classes, teams, or workplaces with several people named Amanda which can get quite confusing!
Lindsay Murray says
FABRIC ME!
Keena Z. says
FABRIC ME!
my parents got my name while watching a 49ers football game, the players name was Keena Turner! so, i’m named after a football player!
Christine says
Fabric Me! My dad always wanted a Chrissy and for 4 girls my mom held her ground but when I came along she finally relented and they agreed on Christine.
Aaron says
Fabric Me!
My name is boring! My wife jokes my parents opened up the baby name book and picked the very first name!
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
Aimee says
Fabric Me! I was named after a song my dad heard in a bar. They knew the song wasn’t spelled “Amy” but couldn’t remember what it was… so they made it up. It’s Amie, by Pure Prarie League (“Amie… whatchu wanna do… I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer if I doooo”)
katrina says
fabric me! my first name had no significance other than being pretty, but my middle name (justine) is from a righteous brothers song.
Donna says
FABRIC ME!
My Catholic mother named me after the blessed mother, Madonna Maria (Mother Mary). But she cut off the “Ma” at the beginning, and the “a” at the end which left me with Donna Marie, the quintessential 50’s girl name. (Yes, I am one of the old ladies who reads your blog.) I love my name, but secretly, I’ve always wanted to be named Laura.
Oh, and I need fabric for my living room curtains.
Molly says
Fabric me!
My parents picked out the name Emily as a girl’s name before I was born. Well, my mom saw me and decided I wasn’t an Emily. Two days later they finally settled on Molly, at my grandma’s suggestion.
monika says
FABRIC ME!
My name could mean “alone, solitary” or “unique.” Either way, the most special thing about it is that my parents had to fight with a government official as the name was considered too “western.” I was born behind the Iron Curtain, back when government controlled everything–even what you named your kids.
Heather says
Fabric me! All I know was that my mom wanted what she called a “soft” sounding name.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted my name to be Julia but my dad thought it sounded too “posh.” I guess my dad was in charge of getting my birth certificate sorted out (this was England 27 years ago, not sure exactly how it worked) so he unilaterally picked “Julie” instead. Needless to say, my mom was not pleased. Also needless to say, they have now been divorced for more than 20 years…hahaha
Hera says
FABRIC ME! I’m the only girl in my family. My mom couldn’t decide what to name ‘her’. She added an ‘a’ to the end and thought she made up a unique name. My Dad burst her bubble and told her the name already existed in Greek mythology–the sister & wife of Zeus & goddess of women/marriage/hearth. My mom liked the name even more. And, in the words of Paul Harvey, now you know the rest of the story!
Belinda Baugniet says
Fabric ME!
Cassondra says
Fabric Me!
Cassondra means “entangler of men”…I don’t think my parents picked it based on the meaning, because I personally wouldn’t aspire for that as my daughter lol. I did entangle one man though and married him, tried to make my name proud.
Sara says
FABRIC ME!
My mom dropped the traditional “h” on my name because she thought it would be unique. But I was one of 3 girls with the same name/same spelling in my Kindergarten class. LOL
Stefanie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents tried to keep it cohesive. My older brother’s name is Steven and mine is SteFanie. I love my name but my only gripe is that it’s consistently spelled with a PH!!
Luz says
FABRIC ME!
My name means light in Spanish :)
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My first name means “princess,” which my parents like to remind me is an apt description. My middle name is my paternal grandmother’s maiden name. It’s not the prettiest, but I love the meaning.
Joanna M says
Fabric me!
As far as I’ve been told, my name is both biblical and a family name – not a bad way to do it, I suppose!
Anastasia says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my great grandmother!
Meredith B says
Both of my parents just liked the name Meredith and apparently my dad had a crush on Meredith Baxter from TV… I like it! I don’t run into too many Meredith’s!
Brooke says
FABRIC ME!
My name started as Allison Brooke ’cause my dad liked Allison and my mom liked Brooke, so they compromised, but I got stuck being that kid who goes by her middle name. Imagine evvvvvvvvvery time your name gets called in school and your “friends” look at you all googly-eyed b/c you have to correct the teacher.
So I got married and ditched that ish! I dropped my first name, which I never used, and took my husband’s name. I had to apply for two SS cards. They were a little suspicious, b/c who does that? But giggles when: Verizon called me to let me know that “Allison” wanted to make unauthorized payments on “Brooke’s” account. Tee-hee. Also, I got two issues of magazines for a while: one to Allison, one to Brooke.
