After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Jenny L says
FABRIC ME!
No significance to my first name, but my middle name (Louise) is a family name. Several Lou’s for the women before me. We gave our first daughter Eloise as a middle name to continue the tradition, with a twist. (Though we had to point out the connection to my mom!)
Nicole says
FABRIC ME!
I was named Nicole because my mother wanted to call me Nikki, because she thought that was so cute. However, that nickname NEVER stuck and so far no one in my life calls me Nikki. On the otherhand. The nicknames Cole, Coley, Colester, Coley Schmoley, etc. have all stuck.
SarahN says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is just because my parents liked it (hello, most popular name in 1985). My middle name, Elizabeth, is my grandmother’s middle name!
Carly says
FABRIC ME! I was named around the time that Carly Simon was popular. My Dad loved ‘Carly’, my Mom loved ‘Rebecca’, so there you have it! Carly Rebecca. I always liked my name. Relatively unique (for someone my age anyway), but not weird.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve always loved that my name means “princess” – which I totally used to my advantage growing up. I remember my mom telling me the other names they’d considered for me and being outraged that they didn’t name me “Victoria.” This conversation happened at the height of my Spice Girls obsession, and for some deluded reason I thought that if my named was Victoria *I* could have been Posh Spice.
Kathy says
Fabric me!!!! My first name was a popular name for my generation. When I was in high school I had 2 good friends named Kathy and in college there were 4 girls named Kathy on my dorm floor.
Becca says
FABRIC ME!
I couldn’t imagine being named anything else but Rebecca! My mom definitely picked the name. I got called Rachel for the longest time in my 4th grade class though because me and this other girl (named Rachel) in my class both had red hair…so the teacher would always mix us up.
Tammy says
Fabric Me!
My name has no exciting story.
Amanda S says
Fabric me!
My name means Fft to be loved or lovable and first appeard in a poem some time around the 1200s!
Have a great day!
Jesika Davis says
Fabric Me! As a child of the 80’s, there were a billion Jessica’s (I had six in my 8th grade english class) but mine is the only one spelled differently. My parents heard it on tv and liked it!
Callin says
FABRIC ME!
My parents compromised for my name, one wanted Callie and the other Cathlin so they mashed it together for Callin. I’ve met very few Callin’s, or any other variation of spelling. It was horrible growing up, no one can pronounce it correctly and it’s gender ambiguous apparently so sometimes they’d assume I was a boy. I’ve grown to like it now though.
Juliette says
FABRIC ME!
My mom loves Shakespearean/renaissance-esque names, so she chose Juliette, but modified the spelling to name me after a nun she liked…haha
Amanda Morgan says
FABRIC ME!! No meaning behind my name, Amanda. Perhaps they were in a Barry Manilow kind of mood?!?!
Sarah L. says
Fabric Me!! My name had no significance that I know of, but I was born on Christmas, so I guess a name from the Bible seemed appropriate. I married a Lawrence, so now my full name is Sarah Lawrence – I became a college!
Katie says
Fabric ME!
My name was a suggestion by my older brother, whose pre-school crush at the time was named Katie. Later my parents discovered it was also my great-great grandmother’s name. Coinkydink!
Elizabeth says
Fabric Me!
I was the first female grandchild of my generation (within my family, of course) and both my grandmothers are named Elizabeth. It wasn’t hard for my parents to please both grandmothers at once!
Hallie says
FABRIC ME!
Depending on where you look, Hallie is a feminine diminutive of Harold, meaning “army ruler”. I think I recall it having a prettier Greek meaning, like “the wind”, but I don’t think my mom’s source was Greek.
Though my mom liked the anonymity of her married name, Mary Smith, she thought that her children should have unique names to go with Smith. She met an old woman named Hallie and liked it.
Sheri says
FABRIC ME!
No cool story to my name, my parents just liked it.
Andrea says
FABRIC ME!
My dad wanted to name me Angela after his grandmother. My mom worked with someone by that name that she couldn’t stand. So they decided on Andrea as it was close =)
Alyson P says
FABRIC ME!
Alyson… after my grandma Alice.
Christina @ Homemade Ocean says
FABRIC ME!
My name is boring….but we have a South African Boerboel (dog) that I named Kessie which in native South African means fat baby!!! I love it :)
ashley says
FABRIC ME!
I’m pretty sure my name came from a soap opera star–and then they realized that it was one of the top names in the mid-80’s. Ohh, parents.
Calliope says
FABRIC ME!
In Greece childen are very common to be named after their grandparents, as I was too after my beloved grandmother. Not a day goes by that I don’t remember her when someone calls me.
It also means (in Ancient greek of course) “the one with the beautiful voice” and in greek mythology Calliope was the muse of epic poetry.
It is not a very common name either.
Becca says
FABRIC ME!!
Laura says
FABRIC ME!
My first name was picked by my mother who has just always liked it, but my middle name is actually my grandmother’s first name, who was named after her grandmother. :) So its more of a family name.
Linda says
“FABRIC ME!”
My older sister picked my name, from the list my parents made – It means “pretty” in spanish.
Courtney says
Fabric me!
My mom says she thought it was a strong name for a girl.
Kitty says
FABRIC ME!
Not sure why my parents gave me this name… hmm good question!
Mireille says
FABRIC ME!
My dad had always loved my name and told my mom that’s what he would name his daughter on one of their first dates. Happily, that didn’t scare her off!
LKG says
FABRIC ME! I have my grandmother’s name.
Jess says
Fabric me!! Jessica, after the Allman Brothers song of the same name. Hippies much, Mom and Dad??
Liesel says
FABRIC ME!
Jenny says
FABRIC ME!
My mom’s best friend was determined to name me Orson, and bought absolutely anything with that name on it (the Orson reindeer ornament still goes on the Christmas tree every year). Luckily, the doctor read my ultrasound incorrectly so I got a more conventional female name–of course, my last name means vinegar in German, so conventional is relative.
Natalia says
FABRIC ME!
My mother is French and my father is Syrian. They each wanted to name me a name from their respective countries but couldn’t reach an agreement. So they called a truce and went with Russia… Way to compromise guys!
Shauna says
FABRIC ME!
I dont know where or when my mother heard my name but she wanted my name to be somewhat original but not weird! Somewhere she heard “Shauna” and knew that was it!
Beth B says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mom’s best friend growing up (or my grandfather’s aunt, depending on which one of them you ask).
Lu says
FABRIC ME!
(please!) My name was just a name my parents liked. I go by a nickname, but that’s really the short and the short of it.
Cherith says
Fabric me!!
My dad wanted to name me Elijah after Elijah in the Bible. My mom wasn’t up for using Elijah for a girl. So she came up with Cherith Brooke. Elijah hid by the brook Cherith in 1 Kings 17.
People constantly say Cherith wrong and rarely spell it correctly, but I’m really glad I don’t have an ‘ordinary’ name. At least I know when someone says my name correctly that they are speaking to me and not the person behind me.
Christy says
FABRIC ME!
My name is a family name. I was named for my GGG Grandmother.
Liz Zankowski says
FABRIC ME!
Savannah says
FABRIC ME!
My parents fell in love with my name after they saw the old movie, Savannah Smiles.
Christyn says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were going to name me Sarah, but because they were having such a difficult time with pregnancies, they decided to put the word Christ in my name if they could have a child…and then boom! Here I am!
Blair says
FABRIC ME! I was named after Blair from that show “The Facts of Life.” My grandma liked it and suggested it to my parents. I like it because its different, but I did have two other Blairs on my field hockey team, which is pretty rare, I think.
Kelly D says
Fabric Me! I was supposed to be Christina Marie, but apparently looked more like a “Kelly Ann” when I arrived!
Angel says
Fabric Me!
I am my Dad’s Little Angel.
Katie H. says
FABRIC ME! My name means “pure one.”
Sarah D says
FABRIC ME! Nothing special behind my name – my parents just liked it. :-)
Elizabeth says
Fabric me!
My dad’s family has a tradition of naming children after the English kings and queens. We three kids are Elizabeth, Margaret and James.
Lisa says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special behind my name. I think my parents knew a lot of friends with my name and just liked it. I do have the same middle name as my aunt/godmother. Everyone thinks my parents were big Elvis fans (Lisa Marie) but they claim that’s not it :)
becca says
FABRIC ME!
I was supposed to be Rachael but my dad knew that his sister wanted the name for her own daughter, so Rebecca it was. But my sister is Rachael, and that caused some drama when, 10 years after I was born, my mom and aunt were pregnant at almost exactly the same time.
