After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted Heather or Lauren, but when I came out with brown hair, my dad said that they were “blond girl names”, so I ended up with Jessica.
Megan O says
Fabric me!
I don’t think my name had any special meaning. My parents just both liked it!
Stephanie H says
How did you know that I needed curtain fabric? FABRIC ME, please!
Kim says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was in labor for a very long time, poor woman. She had a great nurse that both of my parents really liked when she first got to the hospital…then the nurse went off her shift and went home, then came back for her next shift and my mom was STILL in labor. They liked her so much they named me after her. Also – they thought I was going to be a boy so they had no girl names picked out at all so they pretty much just went with the first one they heard and liked. ha!
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mom’s favorite camp counselor. My mom got to pick my name, and my dad got to pick my brother’s name two years later.
Lindsey says
Fabric me!
“From the linden tree island” is the meaning. It’s also one of the most badly-spelled names out there: lindsay, lynsey, lindsy, etc…there’s only one way, man!
Whitney says
FABRIC ME!
Sabrina says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were going to name me Cedar, but then they saw the name Sabrina and liked it more. My mom also thought I might get made fun of if my name was Cedar. ???
Kristin Hayne says
FABRIC ME!! Pretty please? My name has all three of my nationalities in them.

Last (maiden) name is for the Italian side.
:) Thanks for the possibility to win a fun prize!!

Lisa says
FABRIC ME!
I am the last of 11 kids, by the time i came around everyone wanted to have a chance to name me. My parents being the diplomats that they were asked all the siblings to suggest a name….they put it in a bowl and they each picked one :/
my first name means ‘devoted to God/ oath to God’ :)
my second name means ‘legendary princess’ :)
(whew! it worked out well!)
Christy says
FABRIC ME! (please)
Sheri says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my father’s baby sister who sadly died young. She was Sharon, but her nickname was Sheri. I kinda wish they’d given me the formal name with the nickname.
My daughter is named for a song my husband was singing at a party the night I noticed him. I hope she’ll like that story as she grows up =)
Courtney says
FABRIC ME!
I’m not sure there’s any special meaning behind my name other than my parents liking it- I was supposed to be a boy so I think my parents panicked when my sister and I were born and had to come up with girl names quickly :-)
Kate says
“FABRIC ME!”
I was the 5th child and my parents were out of ideas until my father read the name Katrina in the obituaries.
An Baxter says
Fabric me! My name is a combination of my aunt’s names.
Melissa Breau says
Fabric me! I would love a chance to get some fabric to finally put up curtains in my apartment… I’ve been putting off doing it since May (terrible, i know).
My name means honey bee…. not sure why my parents picked it though.
Tiffany M. says
FABRIC ME! I was supposed to be a boy, so they were shocked when I arrived. I guess it was chosen on a whim.
Abby3 says
FABRIC ME!
My name was supposed to be Holly, as my due date was on Christmas (Nicholas if I was a boy- real original, right?). Since, I was three days late, my parents scrapped their original name and just picked something random. I really like my name (Abby), but always thought it was weird they didn’t just stick to Holly!
Jamie says
Fabric me!!! I’m named after the bionic woman (Jamie Summers)
Janelle says
FABRIC ME!
Named after the local weather girl– pops thought she was hot. :)
Jenn R. says
FABRIC ME!!!!!!!!!!
No special reason behind my name…just way to popular now.
Paige says
Fabric me!
My parents thought I was going to be a boy, so they had picked out the name “Preston” for me. When they found out I was actually a girl, I guess they couldn’t get away from a “P” name, so they chose “Paige”. It means “young servant”.
Jessica M says
FABRIC ME! I don’t think the meaning of my name had any influence on my parents picking it but my middle name is a family name that the first girl in each family has been given for probably 4 generations. I love my name now but growing up I didn’t like that there were always so many Jessica’s in my classes each year. Even my first name/middle name combo wasn’t very unique – Jessica Ann. In fact, a few years ago I was invited to a Facebook group “The Jessica Ann’s of Facebook”!! There were many girls in the group. Oh well, I think it’s a nice name now :)
Tara says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked my name. I think they saw it in a baby book.
Growing up, everyone asked if I was named for Gone with the Wind, a question my mother despised.
Uzmina Anjum says
Tara in Hindi/Urdu means ‘Star’ and in one language(forgotten which one) means ‘Land’
Liz O says
FABRIC ME! I love my name! Funny, my parents wanted to call me Beth and were going to name me as such. But my Gmom convinced them to make it Elizabeth and Beth for short. So they went with it and since i was little have never answered to the name Beth. My Gmom always called me Elizabeth so up until grade school I only went by that. Now it’s Liz to most people and I like it!
Pam says
FABRIC ME!
My name was picked out by a friend of my mother’s.
Shelby says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after a ’67 Shelby Cobra Mustang (it’s a car in case you didn’t know). The funny thing my father in law pointed out is that the very same car is nicknamed Eleanor in the movie Gone in 60 Seconds….that’s my daughter’s name. wasn’t intentional but a funny coincidence nevertheless.
Jessica brown says
Fabric me! Need new cloth to cover my window seat. These look so cute!
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning that I know of – my older sister is Rachel so I guess Rebecca is the next logical name!
Jenna W. says
FABRIC ME! My parents decided on Jenna after hearing the character’s name on “Texas”
Katie Arnold says
Fabric Me!!!! I don’t know what my name means, but I am named after my great grandmother who was Catherine with a C and Katie with a K
susan says
Fabric Me!
I hate my first name (about 20 girls in my grade in school had it, too), but love my middle name. It is my mom’s middle name as well–and was formed from the initials of my grandmother’s maiden name. I gave my daughter my grandmother’s maiden name as a first name, so now four generations of my family share some part of that! :)
Jess says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always liked the name, so I got it. She was working as an OB nurse while she was pregnant and her OB, who was also her boss, actually wanted her to name me Cinnamon because he had always liked the name. He offered to pay for the birth if she did, but I guess she wasn’t a fan. So there’s an interesting story about not my name :)
Andrea says
FABRIC ME!
I have no idea why my parents gave me my first name. My middle name (Elizabeth) is because they wanted to be good Catholics and give me a Christian name. If I have a daughter, I’d like for her middle name to be Alida since that is a family name for both my wife and myself.
Annie says
Fabric me!!!
My grandfather assumed I would be a boy, so he started calling me “Andy”. When my parents found out they were having a girl, they named me Andrea, but they did not want people (Grandpa) to call me “Andi”. So they decided to pre-nickname me “Annie”. Thanks, grandpa, for forcing a nickname that I’ve never been able to ditch! :)
Kate says
FABRIC ME! I’ve always loved my name – my parents don’t have a great story but say that they knew right away that I would be a Kate rather than a Katie. I wonder what gave it away? Do Kates scream louder than Katies out of the womb? :)
Laura L. says
Fabric Me!
Laura, as in Laura Ingles Wilder and ” little house on the praire”. My mom named us from her fav books. My sister is Amy a la ” little women”.
Wendy says
Fabric me! My older sister wanted to name me after the witch in Casper, and my parents liked it.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
I thought for years that I was named after my grandmother – turns out I’m named after my aunt. Who knew…
Amy says
FABRIC ME! My name is Amy, but for the first few days of my life, my name was Erin. My dad decided he didn’t like it, so the birth cert. had to be changed. I was always one of several Amys in my class, and while I don’t dislike the name, I wish it were less popular growing up.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
My parents stole my name from a little girl who lived in the apartment next door to them when they first got married. Very boring. I’ve always wanted to be named after a song!
Jessica says
Fabric Me!
My parents originally named me Marion Anna after both of my grandmas. However, I guess everyone that heard it thought it was Maryann, so they changed it to Jessica Marion.
Laura says
FABRIC ME!
Laura is a variation of Laurel which is a flower.
Sara C says
FABRIC ME! My great grandpa named me!
Pip says
FABRIC ME! Philippa – lover of horses. My parents wanted a classic name that could be shortened easily. Not as good a story as my friend whose parents could not agree on a name and decided to race to the registry office to decide which name to use!
Jennifer Fankhauser says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose one of the trendiest names of the 80s for me, but my middle name – Logan – is kind of unique (for a girl) and is also my grandpa’s middle name.
Stacy Pittman says
Fabric Me!
I was named after a cousin who was 2 years older than me. We both went to the same university and had the same major which was quite fun.
Courtney says
FABRIC ME!!!
My first name means “honest counselor” which is rather fitting seeing as how I can never keep my opinion to myself…My dad picked it-it was the HUSBAND of one of his favorite singers back in the day!
My middle name is the female version of my father’s name!
Jennifer Collier says
FABRIC ME PRETTY PLEASE!
I am also a Jennifer from the 1970’s. So my name is not very unique. I made sure my girls had more unique names.
