After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!!
I’m afraid my name is just a name…
However, my daughter (Noela Ruth) is named after my grandmothers: Leona & Ruth. <3
Lindsay @ OffFor the Season says
FABRIC ME!
Nospecial meaning behind my name, i don’t think?
Samantha says
FABRIC ME!!
There is no big significance behind my name..my mom picked out my first name and my dad picked out my second. I hope to carry on one family name for my kids!
Brittany says
FABRIC ME! My name doesn’t carry any special meaning but I did go around 1st grade and tell people my name was Claudia from the babysitters club books! She was so artsy and cool…I wanted to be just like her
Bridget says
FABRIC ME!!! I’m named after my great-great Irish grandmother
Emily W. says
FABRIC ME!
No story on my first name, my parent’s just liked it I guess! My middle name is Irene though, which is also my Grandma’s middle name.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
My Dad used to date a girl named Emily and liked the name, so he suggested it and my Mom agreed.
KathyG says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my sister’s doll. Or so the story goes, I’m still skeptical. ha.
Shelley @ Calypso in the Country says
FABRIC ME! My name is Shelley but I always wished my actual first name was Michelle (more formal). Everyone always assumes Shelley is a nickname.
Kate says
Fabric Me!
As for my name, nothing too interesting. I think there was a great aunt with my name but really my parents subscribed to the “Long last name short first name” theory.
AviLynn says
Ashley Lynn (what a fabulous 80’s name!)
Ashley is from a soap opera she watched when she was pregnant with me, Lynn is from the hospital-every single nurse my mom had in her labor and delivery was named Lynn.
I didn’t ever want to change it. My hubby and I always loved our 80’s trendy names:)
Kathi D. says
FABRIC ME!
No particular rhyme or reason why they picked the name, but they get kudos for spelling my name oddly, especially growing up in an age where it was super-cool to have your name on everything. Number of times I’ve seen my name spelt as is on anything other than a book? That would be a big, fat zero.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
No interesting story for me, but my brother was named after a dog ;-),.
Janelle @ Emmaline says
FABRIC ME!
Marie GAGNE says
FABRIC ME!
My real name is Marie-“Something else”. Since I don’t like this “something else”, I always use only Marie. But, in legal documents, my name is complete.
I was buying a house and the bank called my work to verify my salary, etc. and the receptionist told the bank that there was no Marie-“Something else” working there! :) I had a lot of fun afterwards convincing the bank that I was working there!
Rebecca says
“FABRIC ME!” Rebecca means “bound” because she was bound to Isaac in the old testament. My parents just went traditional and gave old testament names in the order they appear to the order of their children.
Bridget says
Fabric Me!!! My mom said she picked my name becuase she liked it…that’s pretty boring!!!
Terese says
Fabric me! I am named after St. Therese of Liseux, a great saint who was very humble in her ‘little way’. I like my name, except that people have trouble getting it right sometimes!
Bryna says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special about how I got my name – my parents just picked it out of a name book! I have lots of stories on how people get my name wrong though haha!
BrassyDel says
FABRIC ME! They wanted something pretty but not overused, so my parents named me Katrina.
Corinne A. says
FABRIC ME!…My parents were flipping channels back in late 1979/early 1980 and landed on the show “Soap.” There’s a character named “Corinne,” and it was the only name they could agree on. I don’t dislike it, but it gets misspelled/mispronounced constantly.
Nicole S. says
FABRIC ME!
My parents kept coming up with Nicole for a middle name, and it was the only one they could agree on. Therefore, ’tis my name. And I like it.
Derek says
FABRIC ME!
No significance to my first name. My middle name is from my grandfather. I’ve been told my first name means “leader of people” though I’ve not felt compelled to create more than light twitter following.
Kim says
FABRIC ME!
No interesting history behind my name! Although as a kid I hated it because people called me Kimmy Gibbler … after the most annoying character on Full House!
Cathryn says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a family member. I have a common name, but it always get misspelled and it drives me crazy!
Kristen says
Fabric me!
My fist name doesn’t have any special meaning. However, my middle name is the same as my mother’s and my 1 year old daughter also carries on the same middle name.
Kate B says
FABRIC ME!
No big story to my first name, but my middle name is for my maternal grandmother!
Rossie says
FABRIC ME!!!
Rossie (rhymes with “bossy”) is a hybrid of family names on both sides…Ross on my mom’s side and Rohci on my dad’s!
Mary says
Fabric me!
I’m just finishing painting a room and haven’t decided on curtain fabric yet.
BTW, slight error in your post – once you’re over $50, shipping is free only in the continental U.S. Alaska and Hawaii still have to pay. :(
Janalyn says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from my mom’s cousin’s cousin. Her name was Jana Lynn, and they just put it into one name. No real meaning. I guess they just liked the way it sounded. I’ve never minded it, and have yet to meet someone with the same name (though I’ve heard of a few)!
Kristy says
Fabric me!!! I was supposed to be a boy and my parents had decided on “Christopher” but when I popped out, SURPRISE! While in recovery my mom watched a movie and as the credits rolled, Kristy McNichol was one of the actresses and they thought it was a nice replacement for Christopher. The only thing I hate about my name is that hardly anyone ever spells it correctly and it is extremely difficult to find personalized items with my name spelled this way. C’est la vie.
Brad @ Mr. Write Away says
FABRIC ME!
My name was chosen at the last minute and, from what I’m told, was completely random. However, every one always tries to lengthen it to Bradley or Bradford… every one but my parents that is. It’s just Brad.
Brooke says
FABRIC ME! Mom was a fan of Brooke Shields and another Brooke actress on the soaps..wish it had more significance.
Monica says
Fabric Me! I’m not sure of the meaning of my name but it was picked by my grandfather. It has never been my favorite and I always wanted a different name when I was younger.
Alisa says
“FABRIC ME!” My name is Alisa. Pronounced like Alyssa with the spelling of Alisa. It has always been a pain in the arse having to repeat & spell my name a million times over but, what can you do? The ”A” comes from my deceased Grandfather Abe who died when my Mom was young.
sheila says
FABRIC ME!
okay, so actually, my name was really not my name.
It was the name that came on my birth certificate…
So….”Sheila Allison” became Sheila Ann, which I’ve always hated. And now I know why! It wasn’t my name! And that’s the story.;)
Megan says
FABRIC ME!!!
My first name is Welsh (like most of my father’s side) and my middle name is my great Aunt’s name.
Liz says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Elizabeth, my grandparents always called me Libby, after my great-great-grandmother. :)
Jan Thompson says
FABRIC ME!!
My name came from a book my mom was reading when she was pregnant with me. It’s Norwegian so it is fitting because my Gpa is 100% Norwegian.
Donna says
FABRIC ME!
The only thing about my name is that my mom wanted a two-syllable name, and that my initials had to be unique within my family. Other than that, they just liked the sound of Donna. :)
Katrina says
FABRIC ME!
My parents liked my name before I was born, but then they found out that it was the same name (first and middle) as my dad’s cousin who passed away a few hours after being born. After checking with my dad’s aunt and uncle, they all decided that it would be sweet and healing to continue with their plan to name me Katrina Nicole.
Now, of course, all anyone thinks of when they hear “Katrina” is the hurricane…
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME!
My parents thought Lindsey meant princess… turns out it means a Liden Tree near a pond. Way to go mom and dad ;)
Susan says
FABRIC ME!!! I want to make curtains for my office/craft room… Your curtain post today inspired me!!!
My Mom loved the names Susan and Rebecca… I’m not sure how she decided (but think I’ll ask), but I am the only child out of five that has a name with no family connection. :( And I was SECOND, so it’s not like they just ran out of ideas.
Chelsea says
FABRIC ME!! I like my name BUT never in high school make the mistake of telling people that your name means Sea Port!
Kimberley says
Fabric me!
I have no idea how my parents chose my name, but everyone else had the same idea at the same time. I remember Geometry class held 4 Kims, and we all sat in the same corner. The Corner of Kims. Still, I love my name, even if I share it with millions of people.
Shelby says
Fabric me. My name means “village on a ledge”. My mom’s name is Michelle. When my mom worked in college she had a nametag that said: “Chelle B.” My dad loved to tease her about it and it ended up as my name.
Jen Bedet says
FABRIC ME! Pretty please. I have a really rare and unusual name: Jennifer. Ha, ha! There were always three or four of us a class at any given time while I was growing up. Wikipedia tells me it means “white fairy,” though I grew up thinking it meant “fair lady.”
Taya says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, Antaya, is my great grandmother’s maiden name. I was supposed to be nicknamed Annie (the only way my dad agreed to name me Antaya which from my mom’s side) but my dad decided I didn’t look like an Annie, but instead I looked like a Taya! I used to hate my name as a kid but as an adult I love it!

Brandy says
FABRIC ME!
No real significance in my name. The story behind it is that my mother at the age of 15 heard it on the radio as part of a list of unusual names. She liked the sound of it and decided that her first daughter would be named ‘Brandy’.
