After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Molly says
Fabric me!
My parents thought I was going to be a boy, so they didn’t have a girl name that the agreed on. So, at 3 days old, I still had no name, & they couldn’t leave the hospital until they decided. My grandma through out Molly Beth. Molly, for her Aunt that had passed away as a child, & Beth, which is my Mom’s middle name as we’ll.
As a kid I didn’t care for my name until I discovered American Girl dolls. As an adult, I like my name. It’s not very common for people, but it’s the #1 name fora female dog. Ha
Nancy D says
FABRIC ME! I am dying to try making an adorable quilt for our baby, arriving circa August 1st! We find out the sex next week, and I just can’t wait. My name’s Nancy, I was named after my mom (yeah, total confusion in the house, big Nancy, little Nancy, etc)… Nancy means Grace, and I really love that name for a girl. We’ll see what baby is, and then maybe…
Kelsey says
Fabric Me! My mom kept trying names out on my dad and she mentioned Kelsey one day. He said he didn’t like it. Two weeks later she brought it up again and he said yes to it! My middle name is after my aunt who named her 4 daughters after her sisters and mother, so my mom honored her, since I am her only niece and/or namesake.
Josh says
FABRIC ME!
Mine (and my brother’s) names are all from the bible. Joshua, Noah and Micah.
Nicole says
Fabric me!
My parents each made a list of their top name choices, and the highest one that was on both of their lists won! I’m Nicole, but I was almost a Megan or a Victoria.
Laura says
FABRIC ME! My aunt helped my mom pick it based on whether it would “go” with my older sister’s name. And then my mom gave me that aunt’s first name as a middle name. :)
Michelle Kersey says
FABRIC ME!!!
I didn’t like my name much in elementary school… I remember wishing my name was Elizabeth so I could have a lot of nicknames haha.
I always wondered how my name was picked… My parents would never really tell me as a kid. only recently did i learn the whole story around my name. My dad said it came to him in a dream. My mom had actually wanted that name, but for reasons I can’t share. She never brought it up, but once my dad did she went with it.
Kaitlin says
Fabric me! My Dad wanted to name me Savannah, but my mom insisted on Kaitlin because she thought it was unique at the time. Needless to say, there were 3 other Kaitlins at my school. Wish she would have gone with Savannah…
Zoe says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Greek and means Life. I think my parents both just liked the meaning and the way it sounds.
My middle name is Elizabeth, which every woman in my family has had in their name, either first or middle, for as long as I know. A long time. :)
Lindsay says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, Lindsay, my parents chose “because we liked it”..doesn’t get more boring than that! But my middle name, Michelle, is my dad’s little sister’s middle name, and I was born on her birthday and she’s my godmother..so that one is special.
Lise B says
Fabric Me! Lise (with the E, pronounced the same old Lisa way) was my Danish great great grandmother’s name. She looked a lot like the See’s candy lady!
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is from my Aunt Patricia.
Stacy says
FABRIC ME!
My mom just like the name Stacy. They wanted to name me after my extremely amazing and very beloved by all great grandmother on my dad’s side, but her name was Fannie and both of my parents thought saddling me with that name, no matter how dear to all involved the namesake was, would be cruel and unusual punishment.
Nick says
Fabric Me! Don’t know how my mom picked my name.
Aimee says
FABRIC ME!
Funny thing, my parents thought I was going to be a boy. Apparently I was quite the proper little girl in utero, and for some reason the OB guessed I was a boy?? My little brother has the name they has picked out for me and they ended up settling on my name after two days of trying to think of something. I’m glad they went with Aimee and not Emily…my college roommate was Emily and I always had about 5 or 6 in each of my classes. Trying to get someone to spell Aimee right is kind of a curse however ;)
Liz says
“FABRIC ME!”
Sadie says
Fabric me! My name means princess, and my parents chose it because it is an uncommon form of Sarah.
Liz says
Fabric me! I think my parents just liked Elizabeth & Ruth from the Bible so…. Elizabeth Ruth it is! :)
Lauren E. E. says
Fabric me! My first name is the name of one my mom’s favorite students, and my middle name is my grandmother’s name.
Alison says
FABRIC ME! My name is Alison, which oddly enough was my grandfathers middle name. Thank god they didn’t re use his first name….Hubert is just a tad old fashioned :)
Holly says
FABRIC ME!
My name (Holly) was one my parents had discussed but had written off in favor of other names. A name hadn’t been decided upon before I was born and when my mom ended up having a c-section she wasn’t awake to weigh in on a name after my birth. The nurses asked my dad what my name was and he told them “Holly”. Luckily it stuck, because I’ve always loved my name and think its even more fun that it was a spur-of-the-moment decision from my dad. What a gift!
Karen says
FABRIC ME! My sisters and I were each named after characters in books.
Esme Lawrence says
FABRIC ME!! My name, Esme, (pronounced Ez-me, not Ez-may) is apparently a nickname for Esmeralda. My parents liked the name and thought it was unique. Funny story: the JP that married my husband and I mispronounced my name at the wedding! “Do you, Ez-may, take Asher…” :) I said “I do” anyway.
Sara says
FABRIC ME! Oh how I love fabric! My name means Princess, does not describe me at all!
Katie says
Fabric Me!
My middle name, Elizabeth, was named after The Statler Brothers song, ‘Elizabeth’, which was a country hit in 1983 (I was born in 1984)- ha!
Andrea D says
Fabric me! No special meaning behind my name, parents just liked it. My middle name was my grandmother’s name though.
Mike says
FABRIC ME!
Katie says
FABRIC ME! I have two great grandmothers both named Katherine. One on each side, so they thought it was a fair choice :)
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!!
My mother had a student with the same name and she liked it. Then when she went to tell my father the name she liked, he told her that his Aunt was named Melissa. So they gave me her full name. Then one day when I was at a family funeral, I walked up to his Aunt’s marker and saw my full name. I went screaming back to group of people screaming.. Thats how I found out about my Aunt Melissa.
Jennifer says
Fabric me!
My name is not a family name, and clearly as a Jennifer growing up in the 80’s, I was one of several in my classes. I love my name though.
Patty says
Fabric me!
My parents had 3 names picked out…and drew mine from a hat.
ale norris says
FABRIC ME!
my name has no special significance except for the fact that my mom loved it. my full name is alessandra, which is pretty common in brazil, where she’s from. i always get called aleXandra here though, unfortunately.
Sara says
FABRIC ME! It was my great grandmother’s name, and also pretty unusual in the 60’s.
Bonnie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose it because it means pretty. I’ve never liked it. I’m the youngest Bonnie I’ve ever known and I can’t even count how many times people have told me that their grandma’s name is Bonnie.
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My parents loved the name, and it happened to be the name of a family friend…even better! :) I also share the same middle name as my mom and sister, Lyn!
Gretchen says
FABRIC ME! My name means pearl. Technically, it means little Margaret and Margaret means pearl.
Jenna says
FABRIC ME!
My grandmother came across my name in an issue of TV Guide. I’m named after a character on the 80s soap, Dallas. I have still never watched an episode. Maybe I should so I can see what this Jenna character was all about. lol
CC says
FABRIC ME!
My mom picked Cheryl because it has no masculine form. She wanted GIRL names.
Unfortunately, she got a couple of very unlady-like tomboyish daughters. Sorry, Ma.
Kristina Strain says
FABRIC ME!
There really isn’t much of a story behind my name, but I do know my dad was testing out various options in an announcer’s voice, and when he said, “Here she is, ladies and gentlemen, Miss Kristina Jean Plath!” it clicked.
Michele says
Fabric Me! My mother is French, so I got a French name.
Sara says
FABRIC ME!
My name means princess! :)
Dana says
Fabric Me!!!
No special meaning behind my name. Only wish more people would pronounce it correctly!
Elly says
FABRIC ME!
Elly was my grandmother’s name…
Summer says
FABRIC ME!
I love my name, though people always expect me to be a blond when they hear my name, Summer. My mom thought the name was beautiful even though I was born in the Spring. I think there was a Miss America contestant at the time with the same name, and an author with the name Sumner. You would think it was unusual, but I went to high school with five other Summer’s. A pretty popular name in sunny Florida, though I don’t find many in my current location of Vermont.
MeganLA says
FABRIC ME! No cool story, but it does have a happy ending because I actually really like the name Megan :)
Kejal says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, Kejal is Turkish and means “the most beautiful part of every season.” It used to embarrass me when I was younger but now I love what it says about how children are truly the most beautiful things to their parents.
Mary W. says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name me Merideth, but had to have a saint name so she ended up naming me Mary Beth. Not Marybeth. Not Mary Elizabeth. I went by Mary Beth until high school then dropped the Beth!
Lina says
FABRIC ME! My name (supposedly) means “light,” which is actually funny because my first word was “lys” (“light” in Norwegian). In Norway it’s spelled Line, but my mom changed the a to an e to save me from years of mispronunciation and teasing (thank god).
Jennie says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my moms two college roomates, Jennifer and Anne. Pretty sure “Jennifer Anne” might be at the top of the list of common names for the late 70s!
Lynelle says
FABRIC ME!! my name means ‘waterfall’
