After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

No special significance that I know of…
Katy says
Fabric me!
No good story with my name, except it is actually Katrina. I am very grateful my parent’s gave me a well established nickname, as I would not want to go by Katrina anymore.
PS-I did not know the last fabric was still made. I have some hiding in my fabric stash waiting for the perfect project. Now that I know I can get more, a project might present itself a little quicker (had it for 3 years).
Melinda says
Fabric me! Thanks!

FABRIC ME!
My parents would have named me Linnea if they’d heard the name a year earlier (before I was born). I think it’s a fantastic name, I would have loved to go by Linn. However, I now have a father-in-law named Lynn, so it’s probably for the best!
Jennie says
“FABRIC ME!”
I was named after Jennie Churchill, Winston Churchill’s mother. My mother was reading her biography when she was pregnant with me.
Kathryn says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me Kathryn since three of my four great-grandmothers were Kathryn/Katherine/Catherine. They chose my spelling since it was the most unique of the three. My great-grandmother Kathryn died about 2 years after I was born, and it was only after her passing that my mom learned she chose to change the spelling from Katherine when she was 10. She never legally changed her name! At least now I officially spell it Kathryn!
abby says
Fabric me! I got my name from my dad. It means “my father’s joy”.

FABRIC ME!!
Everyone asks if my parents were hippies for naming me “Tempest Amara”. Answer? nope. No story. no weird way they picked it. Though my dad did want to name me Sherry. (clearly he lost that battle)

Wendla says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for my father’s grandmother from a Swedish settlement in Finland, though he never knew her. I have never met another Wendla, but I once had a Finnish coworker who told me that it’s not uncommon there at all, and there are actually quite a few little Wendla’s running around over there.

FABRIC ME, baby! My parents were going to name me Kjerstin because my great-grandparents immigrated from Norway.
My mom is a teacher and realized that naming me something so unpronouceable would cause problems, so they went with Brittany instead, just because they liked the sound of it. I’ll have it known I am the oldest Brittany – I’m 33 – I know!
Salena Santos says

My name is Salena. My mother just liked the name. she had never heard of it before and my father wanted to name is Dalena. She refused and said lets put a “S” in the front instead of “D”. Boy am I am glad she did.
Kylie says
FABRIC ME!
Oh dear Lord, my name. My mom is a sucker for original, yet not too crazy names…and mine comes from the actor Richard Kiley. However, my mom SWEARS that she made my name up–we are talking “There’s no other name like THIS ONE” kind of made it up. Except there is a problem with that idea since there are lots of Kylies (however you may spell it) out there and plenty that are older than the 29 that I am. haha. Oh Mom…you may THINK you made it up… ;) And my middle name? Well that’s my stage name, of course! Because who doesnt have a STAGE name?? lol (Just in case I became famous, I suppose I would need to go by something other than my last name) So Kylie Blair it is!
Jackie Richardson says
Fabric me!
It was actually supposed to be Heather until they saw me post delivery!
MelanieO says
FABRIC ME!
My dad was teaching high school English when I was born. He and my mom didn’t have a name they both liked until they went through his class lists and voila – Melanie! I hated my name growing up because no one could spell it and no one else had it, but I have grown to love it over the years and gave my kids equally uncommon (but not too unusual) names.

Erin in VA says
Fabric Me!
My parents disagreed on how my name should be spelled when I was born. I found out when I was a teenager that my birth certificate actually has it Erinn and I had always used Erin. In high school, I decided to go by Erinn and then eventually went back to Erin. The double n always shows up on mortgage and loan documents…it’s stuck around somehow!

Cortney says
FABRIC ME!
When I was born the name Courtney wasn’t very popular yet so they decided to go with that. They also decided to take out the “u”, which just made me a frustrated kid in the 80’s when I couldn’t find anything with my name spelled correctly on it.
