After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Marnie says
FABRIC ME!
My full name is Margaret, but my nickname (among other things) has always been Marnie. I was named after my mother’s mother, who was also Margaret, known as Marnie. Now only my family calls me by the name, and usually shortens it to “Marn.”
Christina M says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just agreed on this one. I was almost a Jenny but my dad knew a dog named Jenny so it was eliminated!
Katie says
Fabric Me!! No special meaning- my Aunt suggested it and my parents both liked it.
Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
My parents almost named me Greta after my great-grandmother but then decided that the world wasn’t yet ready for another Greta with a five letter two syllable last name beginning with G; so they chose Kelly- which doesn’t have any particular meaning or reason other than they liked it.
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME!
No great stories behind my name. I do remember wanting to change it to something more “popular” as a kid, but I love it!
Carrie says
Oh FABRIC ME please! My first name is pretty random, my mom just liked it. But I share my middle name with most of the women in my family, on both sides.
Emilie says
FABRIC ME!!!
Nothing special about my name choice that I know of, but I do love that I’m the only Emilie I know with an “ie” instead of a “y”.
KRISTEN says
FABRIC ME! There isn’t a meaning behind my name. Boring, I know.
TamaraR says
Fabric Me!
My grandmother picked my name because my mom was sure she was having a boy and only had boy names chosen.
Amy S. says
Fabric me. My name means “beloved” and it was really popular in 1980 when I was born.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
My first and middle name is the same as my cousin. We’re also sharing a middle name with my Great Grandmother, Grandmother, and Aunt. So fun! I’ll be passing it on too!
Amie says
Fabric me! My name is spelled “wrong” because my mom took french in high school. She knew as soon as she saw it that she had to use it. Luckily my dad, who she met in college, was okay with that.
Unfortunatly, I have been called Annie or Arnie my whole life, and even considered changing the spelling when I got older because even some of my family members still haven’t learned to spell it. But in the end, I couldn’t do it. And it seems I have also doomed my kids to have weird spellings for their names.
Emily B. says
FABRIC ME!
Emily is my name and there is no real significance….my middle name is Erin though because it means Ireland and we have some Irish heritage….and it sounded nice with Emily….
Olivia says
fabric me! puleasseee.
no special meaning other than my parents liked it!
Cassie Dearborn says
Fabric Me!
My name was picked because of my sister’s cabbage patch doll (Cassandra)…
Casey says
Fabric Me!
My name means “brave” but my parents can’t remember why they chose it. Heh. I like it, except for when people think I’m male because of the spelling. I’m female.
Meara says
FaBrIc Me!!!!
My name means mirth, but more importantly, I am one of 4 girls and am the 3rd. My mom really wanted all of us to have names that existed in both the Indian culture (my dad’s background) and the Irish culture (my mom’s background). She was given quite the challenge to have to come up with 4 names to meet this requirement but she managed to! I tried with my kids to come up with names that reflect their heritage, but it’s almost impossible to find names that are Irish, Indian and Italian! :) So instead we picked names that have meaning to both of us and honor to family members has been our focus! I had a hard time with my name growing up because no one could pronounce it but now I love it!!
Susan says
FABRIC ME!
My older sister went to Sunday school and told the teachers she was going to have a baby brother named Susie. When I turned out to be a girl, my parents figured I was probably already registered as Susan at Sunday school so they went ahead and named me Susan. Not sure what they would have done if I’d turned out to be a boy. :)
Caroline says
Fabric me!!
My first name means little and womanly (always makes me laugh!), but this is where it gets really good: my middle name means haberdasher – a dealer of men’s clothing and accessories.
Tracey says
Fabric me!
The story I’ve been told is that my parents asked my brother what he wanted to call me ans he said Stacey but they thought he said Tracey. Probably not true though!
Polly says
FABRIC ME! I am named after my grandmother and my mom is named after her grandmother. These two names have been passed down through generations since the 1700’s!
Betsy G. says
“FABRIC ME!”
I was named after a male, Colonel Darby, in the family and was mortified growing up that I was named after a man. I used to hate my middle name growing up and couldn’t wait to get married to change it…now I love it and miss it! It’s so unique and very me. Guess my parents knew a thing or two after all :) Maybe a future child can get the name.
Christy says
FABRIC ME!
There is no special significance to my first name, but my middle name is the same as the three generations before me!
Emily says
Fabric Me! My dad once explained my first name, “I think we read it in a book and liked it. May have been the Bible.” Really, dad? Supposedly my middle name is after Katherine Hepburn, but my parents spelled it Kathryn.
Jen says
FABRIC ME!
I always hated that my parents chose my name “just because we liked it” and my brothers both got significant family names. Being one of a billion Jennifers didn’t help. Not sure what else I could be at this point, though, so I s’pose I’ll keep it. Blerg.
Paige says
Fabric Me! My mom came up with my name and then convinced my dad that’s what they were naming me. My middle name (Carmella) is my grandma’s name…I love it!
Kayla D. says
Kayla means ‘pure’ in greek. My mom said she read it in a book, but it had a different spelling. I honestly thought I was the only ‘Kayla’ in the world until I was 10, since no one else I knew had that name.
Tiffany B says
FABRIC ME! My mom just liked the name Tiffany, but my middle name is after my great aunt. Thanks!
Fiona says
FABRIC ME!
Fiona means fair and my middle name Elizabeth is after my Granny
Melissa S says
Fabric Me… My parents loved the Allman Brothers song, “Sweet Melissa” so that’s where they got my name!
Mary says
FABRIC ME!!! I am named after my mom’s sister and brother, both died shortly before I was born…Mary (after my Aunt Mary) Eugenia (after my Uncle Eugene) Also of note, I am my mom’s 8th child and 6th girl so she was probably running low on ideas. :)
Katie S. says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my Great Great Aunt Katie who was like a Grandmother to my Grandmother. I was given her dining table as wedding gift and think of her when we eat on it even though I was never able to meet her.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
‘Julie’ is a name my mom saw somewhere and thought was pretty (although I was nearly one of those Jennifers from the ’70s!) and ‘Elizabeth’ is for my grandma and my great grandma. And it’s my daughter’s middle name, too!
janna brown says
FABRIC ME!I always wished my middle name (Courtney)was my first name!
Emily says
Fabric me!
My name doesn’t have any real significance but my Dad decided that he didn’t like the boys name they had picked whilst Mum was in labour so good job I was a girl and stopped all awkward conversations!
Katherine says
FABRIC ME!!
No real story behind my name…I think my parents just liked it. They always said, though, that had I been born a blond, my name would have been Jacqueline Paige instead.
Laura says
FABRIC ME!
My dad named me after one of his favorite pieces of music: “Laura” from the movie Laura.
geraldine pain says
Fabric Me! No special meaning behind “Geraldine” but it is not all that common and people have a hard time remembering it…so hubby (also has a tough name “Raef”) and I went with short sweet names for the kids Lilly & Emma.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
I think my parents just liked my name–no family significance or story behind it. I used to not like my name very much, but as I’ve gotten older I’ve come to appreciate it. While it’s not an uncommon name, it isn’t super popular either.
Francis C. Moore says
FABRIC ME! My name is spelled with the masculine form even though I am a female. I was born at home in Kentucky many years ago so I guess my parents didn’t realize that there was a masculine and feminine way of spelling Francis/Frances. This has caused me a lot of grief over the years.
Jes-ka says
FABRIC MEEEEEEE :D
My name is Jessica, and there is no story behind it. I’m actually very thankful I was a girl and not a boy, though, because my name would have been Johnathan Johnson. lol Yeesh…
But in high school I acquired the nickname “Jes-ka” and so I tend to go by that now. My friend was literally removing letters from the middle of peoples names and mine just happened to sound neat.
Jaime Lopez says
FABRIC ME!
My mom named me after an actress on her favorite Soap Opera star from Guiding Light. Her name was Jamie Lynn and to make my name ‘special’ my parents then changed the spelling to Jaime. To this day my mom thought I would become a country singer but really, I just have people spell my name wrong all the time. Ha!

Heidi says
FABRIC ME! My parents were convinced I was going to be a boy, so they didn’t bother to pick out girls names. Surprise! They were so unprepared, they stole my name from my dad’s sister who had two daughters named Heather and Holly. She always said she would name the next one Heidi. Not so much.
Jen says
FABRIC ME!
My mom originally wanted to name me Ginny, but my dad thought she meant “Jenny” short for “Jennifer”, so that’s what he had the hospital put on the birth certificate. Whoops! I gotta say I like the name Jennifer a lot better than Ginny :)
Emily says
Fabric Me!
Its my Great Aunts name but I never met her.
Leah says
FABRIC ME! Mum wanted me to be Bethany but my 3 teen brothers said they’d call me Agatha Gertrude if she did. So I was named Leah after a family friend. Nothing too much against Bethany, just that I pretty much pronounce “th” as “f” even in my 30’s and Befany ain’t pretty! Aggie would have been a cool nickname tho :)
Jonathan says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after the courageous Jonathan from the Bible… kickin it old school.
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My first name doesn’t have a story, but my middle name was my mom’s middle name. With my dad’s last name, that makes me triple e!
Marsha S says
FABRIC ME!!!
Not sure about any special meaning…other than people automatically think Brady Bunch :)
Rebekah Michelle says
Fabric me!
My father chose my name. He wanted a strong biblical name – thus the spelling of my first name – with a French name to go with our ancestry – thus my middle name. I’ve always loved my name and wouldn’t change it if I could.
