After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Sarah says
“FABRIC ME!”
I have always wanted a name that could have a nickname. I wanted a name that could have a diminutive like my sister had or a middle name that I could go by…but I didn’t.
It wasn’t until I was older that I learned that Sally and Sadie are diminutives of Sarah and were used since Sarah was such a popular name at one time. If I would have known that when I was younger I could have had one!!!!
Katie says
Fabric Me!!! Kathleen means pure. It was my dad’s favorite aunt’s name. Also is my older sister’s middle name
Kristine says
FABRIC ME!
My older sister Kathryn wanted a little sister with a “K” name just like her. That is why my name is not Theresa (my parents’ first choice) and why it is spelled with a “K” rather than a “Ch”.
Jenny Stoudt says
FABRIC ME!
My name was the most popular at the time. Nothing original here, except for my plans for the fabric if I win!
Cherilyn Bynum says
Fabric Me! I was named after Cher. Most people are unaware that Cherilyn is her full name. I kinda like it that way.
Amber says
Fabric me! My name is a glorious color of brown.
Jordan says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the FEMALE character in the Great Gatsby- I love my name even though I constantly am referred to as a Mr!
JennieM says
Fabric Me!
No special family meaning, my mom and dad just liked it. My dad chose the “ie” instead of the “y” in spelling Jennie, he thought it looked nicer.
Rae says
FABRIC ME
My parents wanted to have a boy and thought they were having one….they ended up just changing the last letter of my name to make it more femine.
Lauren says
Fabric me! Just a good name.
Erin S says
FABRIC ME!
Alicia says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for my mom’s best friend from high school, but on the same day I was born, Hurricane Alicia hit the gulf coast and until pushed off the list by Hurricane Katrina, was listed as one of the top 10 most destructive hurricanes in our country’s history. The doctor apparently remarked upon my birth that my parents had their own “little hurricane.” Who knew how right he would be? :)
Meaghan says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was watching figure skating when she was pregnant and fell in love with a skater named Meaghan! This was a very popular name growing up, but at least my spelling was unique!
Megan says
FABRIC ME. No special story to my name but I’ve always liked it
Brooke says
FABRIC ME!
No real significance to my name, although my mom swears “Brooke” wasn’t as popular when I was born :). But I’ve always wished my full name was Brookelyn instead of just Brooke. So I use it as a nickname :)
kim says
fabric me!!! last minute decision ;)
Jessica @ The Desert Abode says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me Jessica and my sister Stephanie. We’re clearly children of the 80s and although our parents didn’t win any points for creativity, we both love our names!
Kathy says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t think there’s anything inparticular about my name that’s special – I know my mom picked it and my dad agreed. He wanted “something you couldn’t nickname” which totes failed… there’s like a million nicknames for Katherine!
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!

Tangee is the name of a song that my dad liked. I like it because it is interesting.
April Kennedy says
My name holds no significant meaning. Apparently my mom had a name picked and my dad had a name picked and they couldn’t agree so I go a different name all together. My middle name is after my great-grandmother- Frances.
Lori Jeffers says
FABRIC ME! My dad and grandpa wanted to name me Lori, my mom wanted Laura. Dad and grandpa won, but to this day my mom pronounces it “Laurie” not “Lori” :)
Kathy says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing exciting in my name- just one my parents liked. :)
Cheryl says
Fabric Me!
My mom named me after a Mouskateer. I know I just dated myself, but that’s the honest to God truth. I love my name, even though I am nothing like a mouskateer.
Whitney says
FABRIC ME!
My mom had met a little girl with the name on an island she worked on with the name Whitney (my mom is music ilteriate so I am sure she didn’t know who Whitney Houston was)- she loved the little girl and her pretty blonde hair. When she looked up the name it meant “from the white island” and she decided it was perfect. When I was born I had a thick head of black hair (surprise!) but it turned white blonde pretty quickly- so the name ended up being perfect. For some reason I have always liked my sister’s name better- Brooke, but I am happy with it… I hardly ever meet people named Whitney. (And apparently my mom has a thing for names involving being near the water!)
Whitney says
Woops, and it would help if I formed sentences properly/fully and could spell things like illiterate correctly! Stupid work and having to type quickly and covertly!
Danielle Williams says
FABRIC ME!
My name comes from a Bible verse (specifically one about Daniel & the Lion’s Den), and my 2 younger sisters have Biblically-based names, too. Our middle names are Hope, Joy & Faith :)
Katie says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after a great aunt.
Paula says
Fabric me!
I was named after a song… “Hey hey Paula, I want to marry you”. Yeah. I’m that old.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
Is is any surprise that I was born in the 1980s? My poor parents just went with what was popular, but I don’t blame them as they were EXAUSTED — I’m a twin with two older brothers, poor mom had a 4 year old, 2.5 year old, and premature twin babies. Who could expect her to get creative?!?!?!
Tamsen says

Katie Morris says
Fabric me! I was named after a book that my mom read, not particularly exciting but how I got my name nonetheless!
Beth says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were between two names – Elizabeth and Erin. When I was born, I weighed 11 lb, 15 oz (yeah!) so they chose Elizabeth because Erin was too small of a name for such a big baby. My middle name is my mom’s maiden name. I LOVE my name and I think it’s really important to give a child a name that means something.
Megan V. says
Fabric Me!
My parents loved the name Megan because of a little girl that went to daycare with my oldest sister. They couldn’t decide and when I was born, my dad was holding me and said, “She looks like a Megan.” So they went with it. :)
