After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Lindsey S says
Fabric Me!
My parents had narrowed down their list of possible names, but my dad had his heart set on naming me Mercedes Belle. When I came out Mom decided that I looked more like a Lindsey than a Mercedes, and trumped him. So, not named for anybody in particular, and spelled with an E on purpose so people wouldn’t pronounce it “Lind-say”
Mandy Y says
Fabric Me!
My name is Mandy. It is not Amanda. I am named after the Barry Manilow song “Mandy” He is my mother’s favorite singer. And yes the song is about a dog. So yes, I am named after a dog.
Emily Anne says
Fabric Me! My name wasn’t one my parents discussed ahead of time, but my mom said when I was born they just felt like I was an ‘Emily.’
Alla says
FABRIC ME!
My name, Alla, is just a name my parents liked. I’ve always wished it was something else. The other names in the running were Elizabeth, Veronica and Katja. I wish they chose any of those over Alla. Oh well.
Rachel says
Fabric me!
My first name, Rachel, comes from my great-great grandmother, and it’s Biblical of course. My middle name, Katherine, is another family name – for as far back as anybody can remember, we all give our first-born daughters the middle name “Katherine,” so I share it with many great aunts, cousins, third cousins once removed… etc. I love having a name with family history!
kelly t says
Fabric me! My name is irish bc that’s my heritage!
Jennifer A. says
Fabric me!
bex says
FABRIC ME!
There’s not much of a good story behind my name – other than my parents wanted to spell it the correct/original way – “Rebekah.” Nice sentiment, but when everyone’s a “Rebecca,” you never get any cool keychains with your spelling. :)
gatorgirl4325 says
Fabric me!!
I was named after my mother’s favorite cousin. Turns out that cousin is a meanie and no one has spoken to her in years. Go.figure.
Karen says
FABRIC ME!
My mom’s name is Mary Lou- 2 words, both capital- She was so annoyed growing up with people messing up her name that my sister and I both got simple names that couldn’t easily be messed up
Ali says
FABRIC ME!!
I wish there was a story but I think it was the only name my parents could agree on :) I do think I’m lucky though when I hear some of the names my Mom had in mind…
Sharon says
Fabric Me!!! :))
Sara says
FABRIC ME! My parents are in to Biblical names but they dropped the H since my grandmother is British.
kim says
Fabric me, Kimberly Ann. I think that the only significance is that there are thousands of this name nationwide of women between 35-40. What a run this name has had
Christina says
FABRIC ME!
My name is just one my mother liked. But I will add that my father wanted to name me Holly so that is the name I used when I was young and crazy in college …at the bar! lol
Katy says
Fabric me!!!
My name is actually Kathryn, and it’s a family name. I’m the 12th in my family. Relatives who came over from Europe arrived on a boat called Kathryn, so the name has been used for most first-born girls in our family ever since.
Kelley P says
FABRIC ME!
My name is from my paternal Grandmother’s Maiden Name, Kelley. I love the spelling of my name just wish everyone else remembered to spell it correctly and added the extra “E”
Laura says
Fabric Me!!!
I just bought two dining room chairs from the thrift store ($5 each!!!) and would definitely use this to by fabric to recover the seats (the seats are a weird peach/tan vinyl right now.)
My name is a shortened version of my mother’s maiden name. I was supposed to be Caroline, but they changed their minds at the last minute.
Amanda V says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after the Boston song Amanda – my parents were 80’s rockers :)
kate says
FABRIC ME! Katherine means pure.
Jenny G. says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is after my great grandma’s first name. Not terribly exciting, but a nice remembrance just the same.
Haley W says
Fabric Me!
My mom loved the name Haley from Hayley Mills (from The Parent Trap)!
Jane O'Reilly says
FABRIC ME! The name Jane is not necessarily cool or exciting…I wasn’t named after anyone or thing…but interestingly enough I only know a one or two other gals named Jane from my child. My name means “God’s gracious gift”, but sometime in my early life I changed that to “God’s greatest gift” to annoy my three brothers!
Jessaca says
FABRIC ME!
I was named by one of my older brothers (I’m the baby of eight children…yes, let that sink in…eight), and was named after Uncle Jesse on Dukes of Hazzard. But because my mom didn’t want to name me Jessica like most girls because she didn’t want “ic” in my name, she spelled it Jessaca. Not that “ac” is so much better. I’m going to blame lack of sleep and a hard pregnancy on that one. Needless to say, have been and will always will be Jessie to my family. :)
Erica says
Fabric Me!
My middle name is Sammi, for my great grandfather Sam. I used to hate that it was more of a nickname, but I’ve grown to love it.
Megan says
Fabric me!
I was named after Meggie Cleary from “The Thornbirds”
Leigh Ann says
FABRIC ME!!!

jenny says
FABRIC ME!!!!

I love meaning full names and family names.my first name is not near as exciting. ;)
Lori says
FABRIC ME!
My name was in the Top 25 for popularity when I was born, now its barely in the Top 1000.
Trista says
FABRIC ME! . My mom chose my first name (Trista), because it was weird. She was a school teacher, and didn’t want to name me something she’d have to repeat at school all day. It basically means sad, which I’m not.
LauraCinIndy says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my Mother who in turn is named after her Grandmother..
Patti says
FABRIC ME! My dad’s middle name is Patrick, and they thought I was going to be a boy. When I wasn’t (surprise!) I got a last minute switcheroo to Patricia :)
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mum’s much-adored great aunt. My name also means princess, which wasn’t too fitting as I was (am?) a tomboy. :)
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t know what my name means and I don’t know how my parents came to choose it. My middle name is a family name though. I think during adolescence I wanted a different name (who didn’t).
Emilee says
Fabric Me!
My older sister named me after her favorite cartoon character (and my parents adjusted the spelling so it would be more interesting)
Brandee says
FABRIC ME!
My dad picked my name and my mom picked the spelling.
Shauna says
FABRIC ME!
My name has no “meaning” other than my parents just liked it! I like that it’s a little less common, but not totally weird!
Thanks for the giveaway – I have a ton of curtains to make, so this would be awesome to win!
Megan says
FABRIC ME!
I think my name means Great, sooooo it’s pretty accurate ;)
Carly Anderson says
FABRIC ME! I am named after 1970’s singer Carly Simon :)
Clare says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my grandfather (Clarence) and his mother (Clara). When, as a precocious 5-year-old, I learned about my great-grandmother’s clearly more awesome name, I tried my best to convince my friends that “my real name is Clara, people just call me Clare.”
Jessica says
FABRIC ME! My dad picked out my name. Apparently there was a spanish soap opera with a really kind and beautiful girl named Jessica, so he named me that. He gave me my mom’s middle name as well. Although I don’t like how common Jessica is (seriously, there were at least 3 Jessicas in all of my elementary school classes!), I love that my dad picked it (I’m a Daddy’s girl).
Anjali says
FABRIC ME!
Oh my GOODNESS this is exciting! Okay.
So, my name is Anjali (hello!). It’s pronounced ‘Un-ja-lee’, with the emphasis on the ‘un’. It means ‘A gift to God’, which I’ve always loved. My parents chose it because, although it’s an Indian name and I’m not Indian (nor is anyone in my family), my dad grew up in India and both he and my Mum loved the name. And they loved the meaning too. I used to hate my name. People could never pronounce it properly, and it was always ‘weird’, you know? But as I grew older I got used to everyone calling me different things by not pronouncing it properly, and I didn’t really mind any more. Now I really like it, and although people still can’t say it right, I think ‘well, at least they are trying’. My dad always said I could go by my middle name, but I don’t think I’m really a ‘Claire’ person. So Anjali it is. And I like it. Thanks Ma and Pa. :)
Madison says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the mermaid in the 80s movie Splash… How embarrassing!
jen says
FABRIC ME! supposedly i am named after an actress my father loved and my first middle name is after my mother’s grandmother {although spelt wrong by my father on the form} and my second middle name is my father’s mother’s name as i was born on her birthday and she had passed five years prior. the first born child of the first born son!
Kate says
FABRIC ME!”
I have a family name from both my grandmothers, but primarily my maternal grandmother I love my full name (Kathryn), but wish it didn’t have so many nicknames — Kate, Katie, Kathy, etc. And then there’s all the ways you could spell Kathryn (Catherine, Katherine, etc).
Ruth says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my dad’s mom who passed away before I was born. I like it since I’ve only met a few people who share it!
Brooke Harris says
Fabric Me!!
Brooke obviously means a stream, or body of water but also life-bringer which is kind of cool.
Erin Theresa says
FABRIC ME! My mom is Irish so Erin was typical. BUT I was suppose to be named Theresa as my first, not my middle name, however my aunt had a girl first and named her Theresa. Theresa is a family name on my mom’s side. I used to wish that my name was Theresa (as a child) but now I’m happy that I’m Erin!
Carol says
Fabric me! My parents just picked a short name, since my last name was really long!
