After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Cara says
FABRIC ME!
We lived in Italy when I was born, and my parents named me after the Italian phrase “Cara Mia”, which means dear one. Kind of cool!
Kari says
Fabric me! I was actually named after my mom!
Denise says
FABRIC ME!
Tori says
FABRIC ME!
My mom just liked my first name (Victoria), but my middle name (Ann) is shared by my mom, grandma, and great-grandmother.
Ethanie says
FABRIC ME!
My mother spelled my name wrong on the birth certificate. My dad liked the name of a character in the movie (based on the novel) The Four Feathers. The heroine’s name is Irish, Ethne.
My mother only heard my dad pronounce it, so that’s how she spelled it when the time came.
Tyesha @ House Made Home says
FABRIC ME!
My parents had a friend that had a sister named Tyesha…they liked it and there you have it! This freebie made me look up my name and urban dictionary came up with this:
A cool, funny, sarcastic girl who likes to take a lot of pictures of herself. Often has weird nicknames with hilarious meanings behind them. She always has a witty and sarcastic comeback for anything said and is often the cause of many nights spent up till 4am laughing your ass off over the craziest of things.
Soooo me!!! :)
Kristy says
FABRIC ME!
No grand story, but I was supposed to be a Christopher. Since I was a girl, Kristy it was! But, my middle name (Joy) was due to the fact that I was born on Christmas Day.
Kaylee says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Kaylee Erin.
My grandparents’ middle names are Kay and Lee, so my mom mushed them together and made my name! I never met anyone with the same name until high school, when we were at an amusement park.
My brother’s middle name is Aaron, so my parents reused the name, but chose the more “feminine” spelling… I guess since they got creative with my first name, they were lazy with my middle name :)
Jules says
FABRIC ME! No imagination, my parents, ha. I was always jealous of other kids with a cool name.
Holly says
FABRIC ME!
I was named for my great-grandmother, who was named Holly because she was born on Christmas.
Nena says
Fabric Me!
I am the fourth generation Nena and since my mom was Nena also I had a double name. I am not sure of the origin of my name, but my daughter doesn’t go by a double name and has the name I wanted – Elizabeth.
Rachel says
Fabric me! My middle name is Anne, after my grandma’s middle name since I was born on her birthday… turns out thats not her middle name! My dad didn’t remember his mom’s middle name haha.
Christina says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me Christina because my great-grandmother had always loved the name. She passed away (at 107!!!) shortly after my mom found out she was pregnant.
Rachel C says
FABRIC ME!!
My name just happened to be the first thing both of my parents liked.
Jeanine says
Fabric Me!
I have no major meaning behind my name – my mom studied french and liked the name – more french than american I guess. I was almost MaryEllen though and that is weird to think of!
Michelle says
fabric me! My parents just liked the name. Boring I know.
Erin B. says
FABRIC ME!
The lady who shared the hospital room with my mother suggested my name, so they went with it!
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after Katharine Hepburn, because they liked the idea of raising a strong, independent woman :)
Katherine says
Fabric Me, Please!!
If there was a true meaning behind my name it would be “One Who Hoards Fabrics” – I’m a quilter so I loooove me some fabric!
Sara says
Fabric me! Wish there was some cool story or meaning behind my name but there isn’t!!!
Andrea says
Fabric Me!!
Not a particular story behind my name, but if I was a boy, I was going to be Benjamin Fletcher. Just one more reason why I am happy to be of the female persuasion!
Oh yeah, and my maiden name began with an ‘S’, and they both really wanted my middle name to be ‘Stacy’, but brilliantly, they wrote out my ‘would be’ initials, and changed the middle name to ‘Tracy’. How’s that?
;-)
NancyH71 says
FABRIC ME! My name doesn’t have any significant meaning behind it other than my parents just liked the name.
Kitty says
FABRIC ME!
My name means Healthy in Chinese.
Katie C says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my two great grandmothers. One was Catherine and the other Katherine – I guess the K just won out!
Lisa says
Fabric me!
Sadly there is no meaning behind my name, although there is an odd story. My parents were thisclose to naming me Amy instead of Lisa and to this day, 9 times out of 10, when someone forgets my name they accidentally call me Amy. How weird is that?
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my grandmother.
Alex says
FABRIC ME!
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!!
Both of my parents have normal names, but odd spellings. And no one ever knows which name goes with the man vs lady, so when my twin brother and I were born we each got what ended up being the two most popular names of 1984 – Jennifer and Christopher. Easy to spell and pronounce. I’m grateful as an adult!
Annelise in Edmonds says
FABRIC ME!
My name is a compound name, Anne meaning ‘grace’ (which I have none) and Lise, from Elisabeth meaning ‘gods promise’.
My parents just liked the name and gave me the Danish spelling, to match the last name. Although, I always have to correct the pronunciation (anna-lisa), I get a lot of compliments. I’m very happy it’s my name. :)
Kristina Gilnett says
FABRIC ME!!! My name is “Kristina with a K”. My father is from Germany and wanted me to have the Germanic spelling of that name, forever cursing me to having to tell people “with a K” :) Originally I was to be Michela (Mee-ka-la) as my dad is Micheal, but my mom didnt like it. I wish now I had cause how cool of a name is that??
Marsha Farnham says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning behind my name. :)
Jenn V. says
Fabric Me! My parents didn’t know anyone by the name of Jennifer when they named me in 1981… turns out it was in the top 5 names that year, go figure! ;)
Samantha says
Fabric Me!!!
Margee Krebs says
FABRIC ME! “Margee” is my mom’s creation. I like it a lot, but it is often misspelled and mispronounced. Sometimes I revert to the very formal “Margaret.”
Tori says
FABRIC ME!
My parents liked my full name (Victoria) and that it had a nice nickname.
Kathryn says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my great grandma. I think it is so cute that everyone called her “Grandma Kate.”
Danielle says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the female version of the Hebrew name Daniel and means “God is my judge.” Coincidentally, my fiance’s name is Daniel!
Jaime Lyn says
FABRIC ME!!! I was named after Jaime Lyn Bauer who played Ashley on “Days of Our Lives”. Strange, b/c it’s definitely not a household name and my mom never even watched the show. Someone once gave me a framed, autographed headshot of my namesake for Christmas. Hmmmm…where exactly do you hang that little gem?
Elisha M says
FABRIC ME! I dont know how my parents picked my name but I do know that if people don’t know me they assume I’m a boy..”Mr. McCann??” …I’m not a boy.
Denise says
FABRIC ME!!!!!
Britt says
FABRIC ME!
My name was going to be Maren but apparently I didn’t “look” like a Maren when I was born. I have no clue where they pulled Britt from but the fact that it isn’t Brittany is pretty weird.
Helen says
FABRIC ME!
My parents let me choose my American name when I came over here around the age of 5. I went with Helen because I thought it sounded the most elegant!
Katie L. says
FABRIC ME!
My real name is Kathryn and I’m named after my great aunt Katherine who everyone called Kitty. Thankfully, I didn’t inherit that nickname.
CT says
Fabric Me!
No special meaning behind the name, but I did have the same initials as my sisters. So when my mom started yelling it would be “Courtney, Caitlin, Carly, Crackers (the dog!)…. whatever your name is, get down here right this instant!”
CAT!! says
Fabric Me!
named for progenitors on my mother’s side.
Lacey says
FABRIC ME!
I love the story of my name. Apparently, while going in for one of her third trimester checkups, my mother was walking down the hallway of the prenatal center when she noticed a woman crying. She immediately sat next to her and put an arm around her shoulder, asking “What’s wrong” and “Is there anything I can do to help?”
The woman responded that she just found out that the baby she was currently carrying was going to be a boy. Mystified, my mother told her congratulations, not understanding why this news would result in tears.
“You don’t understand,” the woman sobbed. “I already have five boys!”
Ah. Makes more sense now.
“I really wanted a little baby girl. And I had the perfect name picked out and everything.”
That name, apparently, was Lacey. And my mother liked the name so much that she used it for her own little freeloader, which happened to be me.
Stacey says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name me Anastasia, but call me Stacey. My dad, being a man, said that if they were going to call me “Stacey”, they might as well name me Stacey. And therefore, Stacey I am, and thankful for it.
My dad also thought Stacey was a good pro Softball players name. Unfortunately for him, I had more fun picking flowers in the outfield than actually playing Softball.
Elisa H says
Fabric Me!
Jaci says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning behind my name, my parents just liked it.
Alex W. says
Fabric me!
My given name is actually Sarah, and I go by a nickname of my middle name, Alexandra. It always confused substitute teachers when I’d ask them to call me Alex!
I’m really going to confuse people if, when I get married, I drop my first name, make my middle name my first name, and take my maiden name as my middle name! Ha!
