After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Amanda says
FABRIC ME!
I am a girl named after my father (Armando – I am Amanda)!
Farrell says
FABRIC ME! I have a unique name for certain. I was named from a baby book by my father. I was actually suppose to be named Caroline up until the point my mom was in the hospital, as my dad was still flipping through a baby book, they just fell in love with the name Farrell. Growing up I hated it and always wished for a more feminine name that could not be mistaken for a boys, but as an adult I absolutely love it!
Nicole Doucet says
Fabric Me! My parents thought they would call me Marie-Louise…but then I was born and they decided that name simply didn’t suit (thank goodness!) :) So instead Louise became my middle name (it’s my godmother’s name) and my first name Nicole.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was so set on my name, she didn’t care that it was hugely popular. But I like it better than the one my dad had chosen (Amanda). Now that I’m out of school I love my name!
Laurie says
Fabric me! My Mom wanted to name me Sally, my Dad wanted to name me Alison…..neither would budge so I got Laurie as a compromise. No special meaning but my Dad pronounces it like Lori and my Mom says it like “Lary” and my husband calls me Cookie because he doesn’t know which pronunciation is correct. I have always wanted a different name but not sure what I would change it to. My four daughters have names agreed upon mutually and they all love their names so I did okay on that front.

FABRIC ME!
Heidi says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my moms best friend growing up. They dont even talk anymore… :/ LOL For some reason, a lot of people seem to have dogs named Heidi, so I hated it as a kid. I wanted to be named Summer because it sounded so happy! :D But I LOVE my name now!
Dan says
FABRIC ME!
No interesting story here, parents just liked the name!
melody Benschoter says
Fabric Me!!
I was named Melody Gae after my parents- Mel and Gae. My parents had two babies who died and were told that they couldn’t have more children- so when I came (and was healthy!) they named me after themselves. I love the story of my name!
Donna says
Fabric Me!
Donna means lady. I have never liked it. Especially since it’s Donna Jean. When I was a kid on the Sonny and Cher show Cher had a character named Donna Jean Bodine. Ugh!
Sarah MC says
FABRIC ME! My name comes from the Hebrew word for princess, but there’s no particular story behind why my parents picked it. They just liked it.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
My name sadly (or not so sadly) doesn’t have any particular story behind it – I really like it though :)
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My parents called me Sarah because it was a bit unusual (at the time!) and it was one of those older names everyone had forgotten about. Then, welcome to the mid 80’s and everyone’s called Sarah! I was one of 7 Sarahs in my grade 2 class. :-)
michelle says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a girl down the street
Tracie W says
My middle name, Kiane, is from a misprint in a wedding program (instead of Diane). Aaaand my parents loved it, so my name is a misprint. It’s funny to hear people try to pronounce it :)
emily e says
FABRIC ME!
Angela Hall says
FABRIC ME! I think my name was on a TV show my Mom watched.
Niki says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name, Nicole, came from some cheesey 70’s prime-time soap opera that my mom loved called Edge of Night. If I had been a boy, I was going to be named Ryan, so that I would have had the same initials as my father & grandfather. Very briefly, my parents contemplated naming me Ryan anyway.
It might have been kind of cool to be a girl named Ryan.
Rachel says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my grandmother, haha, I’m NOTHING like her. Except we both married men who were eight years and three months older than us.
Sue says
FABRIC ME!
My Mom liked it.
The Girl @ POS says
FABRIC ME! I was supposed to be a boy named Christopher, until I was born sans penis (oops! ultrasound technology has vastly improved since then!) and remained nameless for several days in the hospital. My mom saw my name in the credits of a movie and since they wouldn’t release her until they named me, she went with it. So touching and special :)
Chrissy says
FABRIC ME!
My mom gave me the nickname Chrissy after Chrissy Snow from Threes Company
Jennifer Richey says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer….I think they named me that cause everyone else was naming their girls that at the time! Tee hee! I guess all the cool kids were doing it! Ha! I guess that means my parents were cool?!?!
Chelly says
FABRIC ME!
My mother, whose name is Charlene, tells the sweet story of naming me after my great-great-great aunt whose name she found while looking trough some old family books and photos. She fell in love with the name Chelly (pronounced Shelly) as well as the spelling, since it was a little like hers. I’ve always loved my name. But I jokingly tell friends that I think mom just wanted me to have to s-p-e-l-l my name to everyone! Almost daily I’m asked one of these three questions: “Why don’t you spell it with an ‘s’?” “Is your REAL name Michelle?” or “Can I call you chu-chu-Chelly.?” Gotta love it!
I love my mom and of course I love my name.
Noelle says
I was born in December so I got a Christmas-y name! Fabric me!
Meg says
Fabric me!
Danielle says
FABRIC ME! My name is French and my family has relatives in France. :)
Jessica says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my grandmother and my aunt, Jessica means “God’s grace” and “Wealthy” … and is the most popular name the year I was born, 1980. Whoo 80’s!
Jordan says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after a character in The Great Gatsby. I love my name now, but didn’t enjoy it growing up, as it wasn’t yet a common girl name.
Liz says
FABRIC ME!
As a baby of the 80’s, my parents didn’t have high-tech ultrasounds…so I was named “Peter” until surprise!! I was born a baby girl. My sister wanted to name me Peter anyway, but my parents drew up a big list that included some oddities like “RaeDoe” and picked what sounded prettiest.
Lindsey says
Fabric Me!!
My name was just one my parents loved! My middle name is a family name :) We couldn’t decide on my son’s name until we saw him and we both new and amazingly agreed on the one we chose!
Courtney says
FABRIC ME!
Just looked it up…the meaning of my name means short nose!
Sarah says
Fabric me!
Sarah means ‘princess’ which doesn’t describe me at all :)
I am ok with my name now but hated it as a kid because it was so common!
Arrie says
Fabric me! Arrie was my great-grandmother’s name, and is apparently an old southern name (she was from Middle Georgia). I hated it when I was younger because it rhymes with so much (especially “Sorry”), but now I love it.
Mrs.M in MI says
Fabric me!
My name is an unusual shortened form of the name Elizabeth, which is both my maternal grandmother’s name and the name of my (English teacher) mother’s favorite character in literature, Elizabeth Bennett. My mom obviously loved Elizabeth but didn’t want people to call me “Liz” or “Lizzie” so she chose my name instead.
Brie says
FABRIC ME!
Brie was a name that my grandfather liked and so it was given to me when I was born. My middle name is Lan and is Vietnamese for orchid. I think my parents were playing with the idea of Brie Lan like Brieanne.
Erin says
Fabric me!
My parents thought I was going to be a boy, so they didn’t have a name picked out until I was born. Other than that its not anything interesting.
cristina says
Fabric me.
Nothing special about my name. My parents just liked it :)
Heather says
FABRIC ME! My middle name is Denise after my dad, Dennis. I like it!! :)
Diana says
FABRIC ME!
Yeah, my mother wanted me to be an Elena, my father wanted Ana Maria. So I’m named Diana Valentina, neither liked the other’s choice.
Jessica Dvorscak says
Fabric Me! Jessica supposedly means wealthy, ambitious and beautiful. Wealthy I am not, and I wouldn’t call myself beautiful either, so I’m going to settle for ambitious! My Dad just happened to love the name, and since my mom chose my older brother’s name, it was his turn. As a child I wanted my name to be…wait for it…MANDY!
Erin says
“FABRIC ME!”
My name was at the height of its popularity when I was born, so I’m sure that had something to do with it. My parents first heard it from the actress who played Joanie on Happy Days, and they both liked it.
NancyY says
FABRIC ME! I was named after both of my mother’s parents which makes my middle name is a ‘boy’ name but I love it because I always think of them whenever I hear my full name.
Sheryl says
Fabric Me!
My dad chose my name, Sheryl. I was born in the early 70’s when Sonny and Cher were popular. They chose the “S” because they didn’t want people calling me Cher if they spelled it with a C.
Kate says
FABRIC ME! There’s no exciting story about my name, but thanks for the chance to win! :-)
Amber P. says
Fabric me!
My dad picked my name while my mom was sleeping after giving birth. Way to go dad.
Sarah McK says
FABRIC ME!
I was supposed to be Caoilin Siobhan, but the first time my father held me he realized that I was going to be his last baby, and only daughter (I was the fourth child) and thought that no matter what I did or who I became I would always be his little princess, so he decided to name me Sarah, which means Princess in Hebrew. Thinking that my mom (whose back he changed my name behind) would be upset that he decided and filled out the birth certificate without consulting her (she was pretty drugged up, and way out of it), he chose a middle name that was derived from her first name (sort of: her name is Katheryn, my middle is Caitlin).
Madeline K. says
FABRIC ME!
My brother wanted to name me Tree Trunk if I was a boy and Jellybean if I was girl. I’m glad my parents went with Madeline instead.
Megan says
Fabric me!
My maternal grandparents are Irish, so I think that played a role. I was almost a Molly – I really like the name they chose!
When I went to college, I had all intention of having people call me Meg (how cool, right?) but I couldn’t keep up the nerve to correct every professor as they went through their first day roster. So, Megan it is.
Lydia says
Fabric me! My name is a common Quaker name and my mother noticed it during walks in the cemeteries on Nantucket.
