After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

My name didnt have special meaning to my parents, they just liked it. BUT its was kind of weird when I started dating my hubby, I found out his mom has the same name. Luckily, she goes by her middle name!
Lindsay p says
FABRIC ME!

Melanie Koch says
FABRIC ME!
My name was a last minute decision – my parents actually wanted to call me Sandra, but then 4 weeks earlier the neighbor’s had a baby and called it Sandra, so it was off the table ;)
Maleah says
FABRIC ME!
My mom picked out my name when she was 11 and met a girl from Hawaii. She didn’t know the correct way to spell it [Malia or Melia] so she came up with her own spelling…
Cate says
FABRIC ME!
My mom thought they were naming me after St. Catherine of Siena, my dad thought they were naming me after a family member–I guess everyone’s happy!
Sara Dean says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked the name Sara, so they went with it. I like it too, but when I was younger, I used to try out different names at school. Anything from “Eva” to “Bob”. I was/am weird.
Erika says
FABRIC ME!
I’ve always been very happy with my name. My middle name, Elizabeth, is after my great grandmother.
Megan D. says
FABRIC ME!
Both of my parents thought I was going to be a boy…and no, they didn’t have any medical confirmation of this, they just went on gut :) So when I came out a girl, they each made a list of 10 names they liked- Megan appeared on both of them, and that was it!
Kristin H says
Fabric me!
My mom just liked the name and didn’t know anybody else with the same name. I don’t have a middle name though. That’s a little different. My maiden name is my middle name now.
Sonya says
Fabric Me!
My first name (Sonya) means ‘wisdom’ the same way the name Sophia does. My middle name (Baigam) is the name of an old Persian queen. My last name (Seif-Naraghi) means ‘the sword of Naragh’ because my great-great-great grandfather was the sheriff of Naragh, which is a small town in Iran…
So, before I got married, I was the wise queen with a sword of Naragh. Now I’m the wise queen of a sunny mountain (husband’s last name is Sonnenberg)…
Sydney says
FABRIC ME! Well, nothing really special about my first name – except that my mom said it came to her while using the restroom (yikes how embarrassing!)
Renee says
Fabric Me!
I was named after my cousin, Jessica Renee.
Susan says
Fabric Me!
My name means lily which is nice, but I feel lucky that it was the back up name. Originally my mom wanted to name me Jennifer but a friend used the name and I got a much, much rarer name.
Linda F. says
FABRIC ME!
My great grandmother was named Bertha Agusta. She always hated her name, and as a child and young woman she went by Agusta, feeling that it was at least better than her first name. When she was around 40, she decided that she was fed up with having a name she hated, and decided to be called Linda, a name she loved. I proudly bear her revised name now!
Athena says
Fabric Me!
Athena, Goddess of Wisdom. My mom’s name is Venus, and my father once taught mythology,so it was meant to be. My husband wanted to use that tradition, so our son is Ares, and we’re looking for a pretty girl or a strong boy’s name for #2 due in July! Must start w/ an “A”.
Aimée says
FABRIC ME!
My name comes from the french film actress Anouk Aimée. My parents liked that it was unusual and somewhat exotic for the time. It’s pronounced the French way…NEVER “Amy” something I’ve had to specify my whole life!!
Tara Jane says
Fabric ME! (That would be awesome to win!)
Tara Jane, Jane is my Mom’s middle name and if I ever have a little girl will be her’s too!
Rachel GB says
I’m named after my step- many greats grandma. My mom loved the story of how my many greats grandpa met her and how she married a divorced man in the 1800s and was a fantastic mother to his 5 or 6 kids.
Emily says
my name means “industrious one”, but my parents picked it simply because they liked it. This was way before “Emily” became the number one name on the charts (I was born in 1975), so they took 3 days to decide if they wanted to take the risk of using such an unusual name. Ha! :)
Emily says
P.S. Fabric ME!!!!
Lauren says
FABRIC ME!
My parent’s were in love with the names Brad and Lauren. So after my brother was born, the names of choice became Michael and Lauren. So that is why I’m Lauren. Unfortunately, it was a very popular name in the 80s. My sorority had five Laurens. I always suggest parents consider the popularity of the name and how the names they pick might lead to nicknames.
Jennifer Sootkoos says
FABRIC ME!
There is no significance behind my name. It was just one of the most popular names when I was born in 1979.
katie says
Fabric me!!
My parents named me Katherine, but that’s rarely used. It’s Katie to those who know me, and Kate to those who know me very well.
When I was young, I would always spell it “Kathryn”, because that’s how the other “Katie” in my class spelled her name, and quite frankly, that sounded cooler. That was until my teacher told my parents..lame.
I also remember wishing and begging my mom to change my name to Ariel, obvs after my favorite little mermaid…but I am glad they stuck with Katie. It suits me.
Sarah says
fabric me! My parents planned on having a boy so when I came out a girl I remained nameless for 2 days while they decided :(
Jenni says
FABRIC ME! There’s no meaning behind my name that I know of. My parents agreed that if I were a boy, my mom could name me (I would have been Christopher). If I were a girl (which I am), my dad got to name me. So he named me Jennifer. Unfortunately, that turned out to be the most popular girls’ name in the 70s and 80s! :)
Dayna says
FABRIC ME! No real meaning behind my first name, but my middle name I share with my grandmother, aunts, cousins, and now daughter!
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My name is Emily. Apparently my mom wanted to name me Molly, but Dad wouldn’t let her. So, he got a dog and named it Molly before I was born :-)
Michelle says
Fabric me! I’m named after my dad.
Lauren says
FABRIC ME!! my name has no special meaning, but we have had blankets covering our bedroom widows for 6 months because I can’t bring myself to cough up the money for curtains, so this is much needed!!!
Krista D. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “little follower of the Lord”
Elise says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my great-grandmother. And, fittingly, we’re in the middle of deciding on a name for our first baby :)

Fabric Me!!! My mom met a cousin with a cute little girl named Donna…so she said she would name her daughter the same if she ever had one. And that would be me!

FABRIC ME! And your post made me realize that I have no idea why I got this name–certainly not a family name. I’ll have to ask my father :)
Morgan J says
FABRIC ME! My parents originally thought I was a boy so you can imagine their surprise when I was born and turned out to be a girl. With no girl names picked out my mom found one she liked in the newspaper and tada! From Alexander Joseph to Morgan Elizabeth just like that.
Alida says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my great-great grandmother on my mom’s side.

Heather C says
“FABRIC ME!”
There really is no cool story to my name…except my dad had an obsession with Heather Locklear and decided it would be a great name for me. My mom wanted to name me Lucy.
Jen G. says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer, which is Latin for “Child of the 80s.” Seriously, in high school, I went by my last name because my two best friends were also named Jennifer.
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My mom has a very unusual name and she hated not having a ‘popular’ name, so when it came time to have kids she gave all of us one of the top 5 most popular names for the year, and since we were all born in the 80s at least one of us was bound to be Heather ;) But of course I hated having a common name growing up so all of my children have unusual names.
Chelsea says
FABRIC ME!
Growing up my mom said that she always wanted to name me Jasmine… thank goodness she didn’t. I definitely don’t think it would’ve fit my little toehead-self. My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. “Chelsea” was played by Jane Fonda. I didn’t know anyone else with my name until middle school, but no one spelled it the same as me, and it often gets mispronounced as “Chel-see-yaaa”. I will never understand why some people pronounce “sea” as “see-ya”. I didn’t like my un-common name when I was younger, but I love it now! :)
Chelsea says
OMG! OMG! OMG!!! Thank you thank you thank you! I’m totally freaking out! My fiancé and I just moved in together and with a September wedding coming up and me wanting to decorate :) eek! Now I’ll finally be able to!!!
Love you guys sooooo much!!!!
Monique says
On Golden Pond is such a great movie! :)
Michele says
Fabric Me! No really interesting thing about my name (Michele), my parents just liked it, but after I met my husband I learned that if he had been a girl he would have been named Michele!
Maritel says
FABRIC ME!!
My name “Maritel” is a combination of both of my grandmother’s names: Maria and Estela.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!
My mom named me after some TV star popular at the time – and it is such a common name for my generation I guess many other moms did too. She gave me my middle name so my initials would be J.J. – thinking that people would call me that. Only a few family members did, but I still like having the initials J.J.
Laurie Pags says
FABRIC ME!
I had no name for 5 days is all I know as I was the youngest of 4 girls so they probably ran out of name ideas by then. But my name is perfect! Not too common, but yet a well known name because everyone else is known as Lori.
Kimberly says
FABRIC ME!!!
My original name was Janna Marie, but was quickly changed after my grandfather criticized it, saying, “it sounds like a fat, Italian lady.” So, coming from Kimberly Denise, no offense please!
gina appel says
FABRIC ME!!!!!
My middle name and first name were family friends name. Its a tradition in Hawaii to have two name, a common name and a hawaiian name. My hawaiian name in Nohealani which means the lovely heavens and my first is Queen. My sister also has a similar first and middle name meaning. Both of our children have and will have in the future something in common as tradition. my sister and I have sky in common and her children have the ocean in their name. Our daughter Zoe Kauiokekaimalie has sea “kai” in her name and so will our next baby!
