After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Leona F. says
FABRIC ME! My name Leona means lion. I was born in July, so my zodiac sign is Leo,too! My parents didn’t pick it because of that though… They wanted a name that sounds good, is short (I have a long last name) and that nobody has! I LOVE my first name because it is so rare around here in Germany.
Jackie A says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after Jackie Onassis-Kennedy because of her style & grace. My parents had hoped I would turn out that way, they got the style part right but the grace…not my strong suit.
Laura says
FABRIC ME! My name is Laura which refers to the laurel tree which in turn is related to victory. I like Laura now but didn’t always – in German class I picked Klara as my name and my best friend was Ilse. My mom is German so one of the front runners when she was pregnant was Mercedes and for some reason my parents really liked Sashiko because it means joy or something. Thank goodness they passed on that or I would have been Sashiko Sweterlitsch!
Alex says
FABRIC ME!
I’m such a baby of the 80’s, I was named after the hero in Flashdance!
JoLyn says
FABRIC ME!!
My dad wanted to name his next son Joe, my mom didn’t like it, so she named me Jo Lyn. She thought they would call me Jo like in Little Women. Only a few people call me that. It wasn’t okay for a boy, but it was okay for a girl?!
Lynn says
“FABRIC ME!” My Mom wanted to give me a name that would not allow nicknames…I got them anyway…Lynn Rhymes with a LOT! :) and I LOVED the nicknames :D
Laurel says
FABRIC ME!
My late aunt named me. My mother originally wanted Jaqueta and my aunt talked her out of it. So glad she did!
Crystal says
FABRIC ME! – Oh yeah! named for country singer Crystal Gayle and my cousin was named for country singer Tanya Tucker – yee haw!
Cristy says
Fabric Me!!!
…no special meaning other than using it as a device to torture me my entire life by being spelled weird. Parents today think they are being so fun and creative by spelling their childrens’ names in unusual ways, but… uh… no.
oh, whoops… soap box!
Jen says
Fabric me!
My legal name is “Jenny”, even though people always try to make it “Jennifer”. My parents thought “Jennifer” would be too long for a kid to learn to spell because I also have a long last name.
nancy@owensolivia says
fabric me! i am named after my mom’s best friend!
Chaney says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “strong oak tree” – oh yeah. It’s awesome, ha! It’s a family name too, which I’ve always loved!
Erin says
FABRIC ME! Erin means Ireland and though our family is Irish, my mom picked it because it was a name that wouldn’t have any nicknames associated with it. She’s always preferred to be called Rebecca instead of Becky and she wanted to ensure that my actual name stayed that way.
Jessica says
FABRIC ME, please!!! :)
My parents named me after Jessica Lange..In 1985 it wasn’t as common of a name. Now it’s in the top 10 of names in the 1990’s! At least my middle name isn’t common – Selie, which was my great great grandma’s name. I love it!
xoxo,
Jess
Laura says
FABRIC ME! PLEASE!
My dad chose my name just because he liked it. This drove me crazy when I was about 8–that my name wasn’t a family one, and didn’t have any special meaning. One day I sat down with the dictionary (which had given names in the back) and chose a name with Meaning. When I was 18, I decided, I would change my name to Dagmar. Of course I didn’t; I can’t even remember what Dagmar means.
Charlotte says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my mom’s best friend from High School.

Kelly says
FABRIC ME!
Cecilia says
FABRIC ME!!!
I was named after my great grandmother. I also have two middle names which are my mom and grandmother’s first names.
Jessica says
Fabric me – Jessica was the most common name the year I was born, gag but nothing special there. Interestingly enough my parents never realized it but my initials spelled J.E.W
emily says
Fabric Me!
My mom tried to pick a name that would grow with me… Emily sounds good for a little girl, a young woman, a powerful CEO, etc. In 1979 there weren’t that many Emilys. Boy, how that’s changed!
Elizabeth says
Fabric me! My first name is a just a name my parents like and my middle name is after my maternal grandmother. I was proud to pass it on to my daughter!
Molly K says
Fabric Me!!!
I am named after someone, but we’re not related, nor did anyone in my family ever meet her. My Dad is a stone cutter. The majority of his work is in making gravestones. My mom was out in the cemetery with him while he worked one day and found the inspiration for my name, Molly Rebecca, on a gravestone. Some consider this a spooky tale, but I kind of grew up in cemeteries so they’re not at all scary to me. I learned how to ride a bike in one. :)
Maya says
FABRIC ME!
My name was chosen by my parents because they had both had friends called Maya, one of whom is now a well known journalist
It means many different things though; from egg to love, in different languages
Lindsay says
“FABRIC ME!”
pretty sure it was after Lindsay Wagner :)
Ruth H. says
FABRIC ME! I was a week old before my parents could agree on a name. My dad wanted to name me Wilhemina Ann. My initials would have been WAG signifying I was the tail end – the last – of the kids they planned to have. Fortunately, my mom vetoed that name. They finally agreed on Ruth. I’m glad I am not a Willie, and my younger sister actually ended up being the finale of the family!
Molly says
Fabric me! I’m named after my great aunt, though with a slightly different spelling (-y as opposed to -ie).
Staci says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my name because it was short and easy to pronounce – the exact opposite of my last name. :)
Faith says
FABRIC ME!! I am named after my two great grandmothers who were Fannie and Bertha. Came pretty close to being Fannie Bertha myself, but luckily my parents decided on Faith Melissa
Alison says
FABRIC ME!
My name has no meaning at all. If I had been boy though I would have been Daniel. That’s interesting, right?
Patti says
FABRIC ME!
My name, Pattraporn, means three of beauty in Thai or something like that. Translated to be beauty of mind, body, and spirit. My mom had part of her name “Pat” included in my name and my sister’s name. Mine is at the beginning, my sister’s in the middle, and my mom has it at the end.
Kirsten says
FABRIC ME! because I’m named after an alcoholic main character in possibly the most depressing movie ever, Days of Wine and Roses. My mom was 9 months pregnant when she saw it, and they didn’t have a baby name picked out. She loved Lee Remick’s character’s name: Kirsten (pronounced KEER-sten).
Kara says
FABRIC ME!
My mom liked my name because it was similar to my Grandmother’s name (Carol), but touches on my irish/british/scottish heritage.
Michelle White says
FABRIC ME!
Haha, my parents new a little blonde girl named Michelle when they were pregnant with me and they thought she was so cute that they decided to name me Michelle too! Hopefully they weren’t too disappointed in my cuteness! ;)
erica says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were going to name me Rachel Faye but my grandma hated it. I was nameless for a day or so and they ended up with Erica Grace !
carrie says
FABRIC ME!
my great-grandmother was “chessie”, but that was a little too close for comfort to “chesty” in these modern times. so somehow they landed upon “carrie” as an adequate substitute.
Cali says
Fabric me!
My name is after my grandfather! I love it and named my daughter after her grandfather too!
Robyne says
FABRIC ME!
I have some form off alliteration going on with my name.
Yes really!
Robyne then ‘ne’ in my second name and then ‘yne’ in my surname.
I believe it is deliberate.
I kind of like it!
callie says
Fabric me! my name is an old family name, but otherwise not too exciting .
Sarah says
Fabric Me!
My name was chosen because my parents liked it, that’s all… BUT now that I’ve named one child and am in the process of naming another, I’m beginning to see that’s reason enough!
Jennifer Cary Diers says
FABRIC ME!
(Please!)
My parents named me Jennifer Elizabeth, solely because they liked how it sounded. It is very pretty but unbelievably common. Seriously, Elizabeth is the third most popular name of the last 100 years and Jennifer is the fourth. There were always at least three other Jennifers in my class. Now that I’m pregnant, my husband are consciously choosing a name that won’t doom our baby to the same fate!
Cindy O. says
FABRIC ME! Great question but unfortunately I have no idea – I do know they picked my name so my sister’s initials and mine would be the same…if I win this I will share it with my fabric loving sister!
Kelly H says
Fabric Me!
Kelly (first name) was the bar’s name in the song Harper (last name) Valley PTA.
Meagan says
FABRIC ME!
Jaime says
FABRIC ME! My parents spelled my name this way because in French J’aime means “I like” or “I love.”
MarytheKay says
FABRIC ME!!! So fun!
I am named after one of my grandmothers, and now my daughter has our name, too. :-) I do love a good tradition.
Allison says
FABRIC ME!
My first name has no significance, but my middle name (O’Kelly) was my maternal great-grandfather’s middle name, and rumor has it he was named after the Dr O’Kelly that delivered him.
Kim says
Fabric me! I guess they just liked the name, I never asked.
Donna says
FABRIC ME! My parents decided on Donna, but almost named me Dawn.
Katie P says
Fabric Me!
My name means pure, my mum liked the full version but didn’t want it to be shortened to Kathy, so she stuck with this. I love it – think it’s the best name.. and when I was younger I tried to name all of my toys Katie too! Still have a Katy rabbit (I claimed I was being creative because it was spelt with a Y!)
