After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer, like so many others born in the 70s. My mom wanted to name me Harmony, but my dad vetoed. I often wonder how my life might have been different with a different name…
Allison says
FABRIC ME! My parents picked my name just because they liked it.
Katherine says
FABRIC ME!
My name is greek for “pure.” Apparently my parents originally named me Catherine with a c, but then decided the K suited me more so they had it changed!

FABRIC ME!
I have always been called Carrie Lynn by my entire family, and still am to this day, even though I’m only Carrie to friends (thank goodness!). From what I know, my mom just heard it somewhere and liked it!
Julie says
Fabric me!
my parents wanted to name me Jennifer but they were afraid everyone would call me Jenny. So they named me Julie everyone calls me Jules. Ha.
Mary says
FABRIC ME! My name was all set to be Leah Elizabeth, but then my dad decided I should be a Mary Louise instead. Mary because he liked it and Elizabeth for my maternal grandmother. My mom was so surprised with the last minute change she just went with it….
Shanoah says
FABRIC ME!
When my mom was eight years old, she was visiting someone and met a First Nations family who had a daughter named Shanoah. She asked what it meant and when she was told “little white dove,” she decided then and there that when she had a daughter, her name would be Shanoah.
My dad named my two younger sisters.
Casi says
Fabric me!
My parents sorta agreed own my name. My dad wanted Casi but my mom wanted Casandra. They agreed my legal name would be Casandra but I have only been called it a handful of times in my life.
Whitney says
FABRIC ME! It was Whitney or Adrianne….I like Whitney better, but really I wish I had a more timeless name (what’s with the ‘Whitney’ trend??)
PS I am dying for fabric since I got my new sewing machine

Mary says
Fabric Me! I’m named after my grandmother. My parents actually called me Mary Frances, but I dropped the double name when I was old enough! I used to send out two versions of my Christmas card- one to people who know me as Mary Frances and one to people who call me Mary!
Teresa @ wherelovemeetslife says
FABRIC ME!
My sister’s name is Tracy. My mother essentially gave us the same name since the spanish name for Tracy is Teresa. I get called Tracy a lot and have just learned to answer and not say a word. ;)
Susan says
FABRIC ME!
I don’t know of any significance other than my mom picked the first name and my dad picked the middle name.
Bessa says
Fabric Me!
There’s no special significance in my full name other than my parents liked it. In fact they liked it so much that my first name is the same as my older sister’s middle!
Alison W says
FABRIC ME! My name has no real significance. However my grandfather’s cousin’s first name is MARIE and that is my middle name. She has always called me her namesake – even though my parents say I was not named after her! :)
Dominika says
FABRIC ME!
My name is polish, my aunt suggested it, my parents liked it, and that’s how it happened!

Fabric Me! My name is German and is spelled with a weirdo “C” that my dad jokes is a result of him being nervous during my birth :)
Gladys says
FABRIC ME!
My mom had a favorite doll when she was a little girl named Gladys, and thats how my name came to be :)
Jen R. says
Fabric Me! My name means “fair one,” and I’m thankful they picked it because they always joked it could have been “Morticia” (my dad was a funeral director!).
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME! I have no idea what my first name means but my middle name is the same as my mom’s.
CohoesMom5 says
FABRIC ME!
My parents really liked the book titled CHRISTY by Catherine Marshall so they named me after the title character. Note – the book is based on the author’s mother’s experiences teaching in the Appalachian mountains and is very interesting.
Jennifer Leigh Barr says
FABRIC ME!
My name was supposed to be Melissa, but then I would have been Melissa Gilbert and my parents thought it would ruin any chance of me being an actress, so there was a post-delivery change to Jennifer (I’m thankful for their foresight).
Mia B says
FABRIC ME! Really, it came down to my mom’s choice Mia for Mia Farrow or dad’s choice of Christine as my dad is Christopher. I believe they flipped a coin and I ended up Mia Christine. Could have easily been Christine Mia I guess!
Christina says
FABRIC ME!
It was the only name they could agree on…several days after I was born.
Rebecca M says
FABRIC ME! PLEASE FABRIC ME! I was named for Rebecca in the Bible, and because I was born in Mexico, the name was almost the same pronunciation in Spanish as it was in English. Keeping it simple!

Fabric Me!
My middle name is actually a family last name, and NOT a product of having been born in the 80’s (Amber).
Catherine silver says
FABRIC ME!!
My parents just liked it, but decided to name my bro and sis after some relatives, once they learned that was the family tradition,
Laura C says
FABRIC ME!
My mom just liked my name, Laura Anne. But when I was maybe 7, she told me that fact, and I cried, disappointed not to have been named after Laura Ingalls Wilder and Anne of Green Gables. I’m sure I wasn’t a melodramatic kid, not at all! :)

bethblntn says
FABRIC ME!
My name is from the Bible and means “house of god” my father picked it out but my mother (being that she had no say in my brothers name OR my first name) gave me my middle name Ruth-Esther (because she wanted both names and wasn’t willing to give one up :P)
Molly R. says
FABRIC ME – my first name is a family name, and my middle name is my mom’s maiden name! I didn’t like it growing up (seemed weird compared to everyone else’s ‘Marie’ or ‘Elizabeth’) but now I appreciate it!
Jenna says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my name out of a baby book. It really doesn’t have any significance and they really just wanted something fresh so they named me Jenna Lynn. They told me if I was a boy, I would have been Ross…..so I’m glad I wasn’t a boy! haha.
Jennilee says
FABRIC ME! My name is a hybrid. I’m named after my aunts Jennifer and Julie. My parents didn’t totally make it up though – they found the final spelling in a baby book.
Leila says
FABRIC ME!
My name (Leila, pronounced lee-la; yes like in Futurama) doesn’t have special significance to the family; my mom picked it because she had a co-worker once with the name and she thought it sounded pretty. It’s an Arabic name that means “dark flower.” I had mixed feelings about it as a kid – I hated it on one hand because, hey, nobody could spell it or pronounce it, but I liked it because I put on very dark-and-mysterious airs as an adolescent so to have a name that meant “dark flower” was pretty cool. Now I can’t imagine not having it. I’m a scorpio. We like being unique ;).
My parents told me that they were going to name me Zoe, and that my grandmother pushed for Alma which was her mother’s name, but of the three, I’m glad they picked Leila.
My middle name (Ann) is my mother’s name.
CherylM. says
“FABRIC ME!” No significance that I know of to my name.
Angela says
FABRIC ME!!! My great grandmother’s name was Angeline… so I was kind of named after her, plus the whole “angelic one” thing :)
Alexandra says
FABRIC ME! My parents couldn’t settle on a name for me, so I was called ‘Baby’ for weeks after they brought me home.. My mum wanted to call me Fleur, but then discovered that was the name of a French ‘feminine product’ :s eventually they settled on Alexandra – but when I was brought home from the hospital my brother had a tantrum and yelled “Another sister!? I wanted a brother called Elizabeth!!” And that is how I got my middle name.
Mandi says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the Barry Manilow song. …is that dating me? :)
Kari says
FABRIC ME! No story to tell , but I like it if that matters haha
Kristin says
FABRIC ME! Please!
Mom and Dad both just loved it :)
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!!! My name means princess (very fitting) but I was named after a James Taylor song – Sarah Maria.
Dalia says
FABRIC ME!
My name is unique but so is my daughters. With a last name like Smith you need some fun with the first name. She is named after a our favourite place in University. It means kitchen party in Gaelic and we spelled it in its traditional form. She really is a party.
Starr @ The Kiefer Cottage says
fabric me!
I have an awesome name, and I thank my lucky stars that my parents gave it to me. I do, however, use my other name when applying for jobs or trying to appear serious.
