After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me! Oh, my name. My mom used to work at a bank and I was named after a woman who came through the drive through window. Yep. So sentimental, right? haha. :)

Alecia says
FABRIC ME!!
I’m the third girl in my family. I’m told my parents heard the name on Sesame Street and liked it. Not sure if that’s where they got the spelling too, but it seems to be a rarer version.
Michael says
Fabric me!!
Megan Dana says

I was almost named Melissa after an ABB song! They ended up going with a Days of our Lives character instead though…
Beth says
Fabric Me! My mom liked the name Beth, but not Elizabeth. I like my name, but have spent many years explaining this to every teacher, DMV person, etc.
JSi says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is Jessica, which in Hebrew means wealthy.
My mother wanted to name me Sarah. My dad liked Jessica. I guess she let him pick. I always wished I had a more unique name growing up, there were too many other Jessicas in my school. Now, though, as an adult, and as a “yankee” transplanted to the south, I rarely meet another Jessica. Where have they all gone to?!
Brynn says
FABRIC ME!
My mom picked my name (dad wanted Megan, apparently; he eventually named the dog Megan). I hated my name as a kid because no one could pronounce it when they read it for the first time. Many teachers were surprised to see a little girl raise her hand on the first day of school in response to “Bryan” during that first roll call. BUT, now I love the uniqueness of it.
Maggie says
Fabric me!
My name (Margaret) was passed down to me from my dad’s favorite aunt – unfortunately I never got to meet her, but from the stories I’ve heard she was a pretty awesome lady :)
Elizabeth King says
FABRIC ME !!!

FABRIC ME!
My dad used to joke that I was named after his high school girlfriend (looking back that’s not actually funny:P) but in reality it was just a name they liked.
Angela says
Fabric ME!!!! (Please) Apparently my dad picked my name becuase there is a girl he went to high school with that had the same name and he though both the name and her were beautiful. How my mom let him get away with this I have no idea!
Chelsea Wilson says
Fabric Me! My mom chose my name from a character in a movie called On Golden Pond. I watched the movie with her a few years ago and it was surreal hearing my name being said so much. It’s not a common movie character name!

No special reason for my name. MY parents just liked Megan (but I always go by ‘Meg’.
Denasya says
Fabric me!
My mother made up my name in high school algebra class. I have always been told that she was odne with her work early and her teacher told her to ‘play with the letters’ so
Gilley was born..well 12 years later. :)
Pascale says
FABRIC ME!
The sstory goes that I was supposed to be named Caroline for a while, until my mom thought of the name Pascale. My grandmother(my mom’s mother-in-law)who never got along super well with my mom, said she preferred Caroline. That helped my mom decide ;-)

Fabric Me!
My name is Kitty and I love it! I have an Aunt Kitty too :)

FABRIC ME! My mother named me after her grandmother. My mother loved her and was heartbroken when her grandparents died in a car accident coming to her house for Christmas. I’ve always loved hearing stories about her and took up painting to be like her. I also hope to name my first daughter after my grandmother to keep the tradition alive.
Sharon says
FABRIC ME! There was a sweet little girl named “Sharon” in the neighborhood and my mom loved the name. I was told that little girl turned out be a “lady of evening”. So…

Hmm. There isn’t any special meaning behind my name. My dad picked it and my mom got to pick my sister’s. :)
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!!
My grandmother picked my name. My mom was going to name me Natasia so I’m glad my grandma interviened! On a side note we’re currently researching a place to buy fabric for tables runners for our wedding! The fabric in the bottom left square (Lovely Lattice by Waverly) is our front runner. I’m off to check out this site!
Shannon Burke says
FABRIC ME! My dad is from Ireland, so you know it was going to go in that direction. Shannon or Heather were the top 2 options, and Shannon won out. Then when I was 5, we went to Ireland to visit family and flew into Shannon Airport, drove through the town, over the river and so forth. Since I’d just learned how to spell my name, I decided that “Everyone there really liked me” :) and told everyone I met there.
Erin Harris says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were going to name me Jeffrey if I was a boy – thankfully I’m not and they named me Erin.
Arell says
FABRIC ME!!
I am an 8th generation Arell… but I am the first female to have it as a first name!! It came from a plantation that used to be in Virginia in the 1800’s called Arellton!
Ursula says
FABRIC ME!
My name means little bear.
The sea witch in The Little Mermaid kinda ruined things for me as a kid….
Jodi P says
FABRIC MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
Ummm, there is no story behind my name, other than that my parents liked it. Fascinating, I know :)
Bethany K says
FABRIC ME!
(Oh my…this is the perfect giveaway! I’m on a search for fabric for new panels for our living room and dining room. Thank you so much!)
And my name doesn’t have any special significance other than all my siblings’ names end with the “y” sound. Amy, Becky (Rebecca), Andy (Andrew), Heidi, Lindy, Rusty (Russel), Katie, Holly, and Emily. Yup, you read that correctly. I have 9 older siblings. :) Thanks again for the giveaway!
Jillian says
Fabric me!
My parents never confirmed this, but I suspect my name, Jillian, is a cross between their names, Jill and William. Fun fact: My mom and dad were Bill and Jill, and I married someone named Jack, so we are Jack and Jill.
Katy says
FABRIC ME!! My grandma helped name me. I have (well, had since my married name doesn’t contain 4 letters or a y) 4 letters in each of my name and a y in each name. And the story goes my dad tried to change my name to Jessica in the middle of labor and my mom punched him! Haha!
Katie C. says
fabric me!
My parents picked out good Irish Catholic names for me and my two siblings. Also it was the 80s and Katie just happened to be a popular name. I’m cool with it, although I flirted with the more serious ‘Katherine’ through middle and high school when I thought I needed to have a more grown-up sounding name.
Tara says
FABRIC ME!
My parents didn’t want my name to be shortened to form a nickname, so they were really careful to pick something that wasn’t. Plus, I think my Mom secretly named me for Gone With the Wind.
