After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Kathryn says
Fabric me! Please, I am named after a great aunt, I know original right?
Jennifer Danic says
FABRIC ME!
I’m fairly certain 65% of females born in 1982 were named Jennifer….so clearly my parents weren’t that creative.
Kelsie says
FABRIC ME! My father really liked the name Kelly, but my mother has a sister named Kelly. Kelsie was a compromise. My mother also swears up and down that Kelsie with an “ie” is the female version of my name and “ey” is the male version. I think she was the only one to get that baby book. ;)
Megan Gray Haverstock says
My middle name Gray is a family name from my mom’s side. My grandmother’s sister was Marion Gray Outland and she passed away at a very young age. The Gray in her name was a family name passed down as well. So not only is my middle name in her honor but also a family name that has been very well spread. I live in a small town and have come to discover that many people in town have this middle name and come to find out we are related once I tracked the geneology. For a geneology dork like myself I thought this was an awesome discovery!
Lisa @ Floating Along... says
Fabric me!
My grandpa always gave everyone a nickname. Everyone. And they are not always nicknames people enjoy. So my parents deliberately picked names for me and my siblings that don’t have any nicknames! Other than that, no real special meaning, just a name they both liked. It works for me :)
Wendy says
FABRIC ME!
I always hated my parents a little bit for naming me Wendy when their other choice was Molly (which I always loved a lot more). Now that I’m a Mom myself and struggling to find a name for Baby #2 on the way I realize how hard it is and am willing to cut them some slack!
Beth M says
FABRIC ME! I was named for a character in my Mother’s favorite book – Little Women. Of course, she choose the ailing sister…but, hey, that’s okay with me! :)
Tami says
Fabric me! My mom’s a teacher so I was named after a student.
Elaine says
Fabric Me…please

Shirley says
Fabric me!
Lynn H. says
There is nothing special to my name. It is the most boring name ever, and very little thought was given to it when my parents found I was to be a girl.
Lynn H. says
P.S.
FABRIC ME!
Amber says
FABRIC ME!!!
My mom read a book called Forever Amber in high school, & fell in love with the name. The only bad part? It was a book about a French whore…
Meg B. says
FABRIC ME!! No special story over my first name. But I share a middle name with my grandma and aunt.
Lindsay K says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name, Anne, was chosen after my maternal grandmother. My mom chose that specific spelling because she thought it was the legal spelling of my grandmother’s name, only to find out later that her legal name is actually Anna even though she had always gone by Ann. Either way, I’m still honored to share her name in some way.
Charla says
FABRIC ME . . . my dad’s name is Charles and he didn’t get a boy! :)
Karen M. says
FABRIC ME!
I was supposed to be named Andrea…Karen?! I don’t get it.
Jolynne says
FABRIC ME! It’s a variation of Dolly Parton’s song “Jolene”.
Martha says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my paternal great grandmother and maternal grandmother and love my names (after disliking them for years because they were so old fashioned). Another thing I really liked is that each of my names have 6 letters. And luckily, my married last name also has 6 letters, so I get to keep the symetry throughout my whole life!
Michelle says
FABRIC ME! My Mom loved the song ‘Michelle my bell’
Lisa Jones says
FABRIC ME! No real meaning behind my name. I always liked my first name. My middle name is after my Grandmother and growing up I hated it, but now as an adult I love the name and the connection to my Grandma.
Kimberly says
FABRIC ME!
There’s no special meaning with my first name, but my middle name – Jean – was given in honor of my grandmother. Growing up, I always wished my name was Samantha, so I could be called Sam (Who’s the Boss era).
Becky says
FABRIC ME!!
My mom first picked a few names from the Bible – she wanted something timeless & classic. But what really sold her on my name (Rebecca Lee but I go by Becky) was a ficticious country western singer on Days of Our Lives named Becky Lee. Haha so yeah…I guess I’m technically named after her ;)
Becky says
Make that One Life to Live not Days of our Lives; oops!
Mary Elise says
FABRIC ME! I have no idea how my parents arrived at my name, plain old Mary!
Anne B. says
Fabric Me!
nicole says
Fabric Me!
My mom named me Nicole because she liked it.
Megan Gray Haverstock says
Almost forgot FABRIC ME!! haha Got to into my story!!
Stacey says
FABRIC ME!
My first name doesn’t have any real significance, however my mother did want to name me Anastasia but knew my father would never go for that. My middle name is Noel because my mother’s fave holiday is Christmas :)
Kristi says
Fabric Me! My birthday is the day after Christmas, so I was named Kristi Noel.
Elizabeth says
Fabric me!
I’m Elizabeth Rose. Rose is after my great g’ma, Rosalia, and my parents just liked Elizabeth. I wouldn’t change my name for the world! I’m so happy my parents had such good taste :)
Christina says
FABRIC ME! They just chose it!
Richard says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named for my dads two brothers, Richard and Laurence.
Laura says
FABRIC ME!
My parents just liked the name “laura” and I like it too!
Jen says
FABRIC ME!
My (then) 13 year old sister got to name me. She wanted a name that could be both short and long (she claims). I’ve always wanted to be called something else — I did not enjoy having the most popular baby name of 1984.
natalie says
FABRIC ME!!! I think my name was the first girl’s name my parents could agree on, and they didn’t learn until later that it means “Christmas Child”… I was born in March :)
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!!! My parents picked my name because they liked the way that it sounded. So boring. I always wished that they had chosen something more exciting than a top 10 name that every classroom had 5 of. I married into a very long and interesting and hard to spell last name, so I guess I got what I wished for.
Cara says
FABRIC ME!
My name has no special story really. My mother desperately wanted to name me Camille and my father thought I would be tormented in school. Seems strange to me as I love the name Camille and knew Camille’s in school and they were never teased. It’s not a really a strange name. My father loved the name Cara I never found out why. So they agreed on Cara Camille. And alas here I am. :]
Katie says
Fabric me! No special meaning behind my name it’s just a cool one that’s all;)
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
It’s a family name.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME! My name is Sarah Ann. My middle name is after my Gma – Maryann. Sarah is a biblical name and is hard to live up to. I hate my name growing up b/c there were so many Sarah’s. Then I found out that my dad gave me the name and that changed it all. We’re pretty close.
Marcia says
FABRIC ME!
I’m afraid there may have been a Brady involved…haha!
Bri Frost says
My mom is still convinced she invented the name Brittany, even though I am younger than the most famous Britney.
Kristen Miller says
FABRIC ME!!
I need this! My name is Kristen and it means “anointed one” or “Christian” :)
Erica says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were down to two names: Gretchen or Erica. I can’t even imagine myself as a Gretchen, so I’m glad that didn’t win!!
Meg says
Fabric Me!! No real meaning behind it but my brother named me (unbeknownst to him) after he came home from kindergarten talking about his new “girlfriend” Megan.
Andrea says
Fabric Me! :)
Liv says
FABRIC ME!!!
I’m expecting a little baby girl in April, and it’s so stressful thinking of a name for her! I do know that we want to have a family name as her middle name!
Caitlin says
Fabric me! And that’s a good question… I think my parents just likes the name.
Shawna says
FABRIC ME!
My parents, who must have been big Bonanza or Little House on the Prairie fans, named me after Michael Landon’s daughter. I’ve been working on a more exciting story…
Erica says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name is my Gramma’s name, my great-grandma’s name, and now also my daughter’s. I wouldn’t change it for anything!
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!!!
There is nothing special behind my name at all, but my middle name is the same as my Mom’s who passed away in June 2011, so that’s pretty special!
