After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me! When my parents were first married they lived in a duplex. The couple in the other unit had a little girl named Sue and I am named after her. Mom and dad did not have me until they had been married for 16 years, so Sue was about 20 years older than I am. The funny family story is that my younger brother always said he was going to marry Sue.
Julie Z says
FABRIC ME! I got my name because my parents wanted a name that couldn’t be shortened into a nickname. My mom hated her nickname (“Betty” for Elizabeth) growing up, so she vowed to never name her child a nickname-able name. And now my whole life they’ve called me “Jules.” :)
Christie Thompson / Richmond Thread Lab says
Fabric Me! This give away would be huge for me, as I am a fiber artist in Richmond.
My line’s name is Richmond Thread Lab and here is a little history behind it: I can’t really put into words how much Richmond as a city, as a group of people, as a phase in my life has influenced what I am doing. My brand focuses on texture and fibers, thus thread, and I also wanted some room in there to experiment. So someday, if I start making blankets or something completely off the wall, it will be okay, because this is a creative experiment, it’s a lab.
And lastly, just wanted to say a huge thank you for featuring my DIY or DIE tote on your blog a few weeks ago!
Cheers! xo

FABRIC ME…!!!

Carly Wright says
FABRIC ME!! I was named after Carly Simon (the singer) my mom was obsessed and my middle name is also my Grandmothers middle name. I always wished my name was different when I was younger because I could not pernounce my R’s so I could never really say my name right until later in life I was informed my dad wanted to name me tackle box…so now I am THANKFUL my name is Carly =) P.S I loved Clara’s curtains you made, she does have good taste!
Raesha de Ruiter Zylker says
FABRIC ME!!
Well, I LOVE my name….but there were many years growing up that I wasn’t that crazy about it. My name is Raesha – my mom is Marsha and my Dad is Ray and they put their names together to get Raesha. It’s pronounced Ray-sha. You would not believe how many mispronunciation I get on a daily basis. Ray-E-sha, Ray-she-a, Ru-e-sha, Ru-see-a….and the list goes on and on and on. My maiden name was Raesha Terry and people always tried to make Terry my first name. My married name is Raesha de Ruiter Zylker. How’s THAT for a name!!! I can flat out guarantee you will never meet another Raesha de Ruiter Zylker in your lifetime. I can tell in a second when telemarketers call cause they have no idea how to pronounce any part of that name. And my sweet 80 year old granny still can’t say de Ruiter Zylker right – I’ve been married for 20 years but I’m cutting her some slack. I love it – I’m unique, no one else will ever share my exact name, and it makes people think I’m super exotic, until they meet me in person and realize I’m as white as white bread.
Debbie says
Fabric me! My name means “bee” in Hebrew, but my parents chose it because of its Biblical significance.

Michelle says
Fabric Me!
Named after the song…just like 1,000’s of little girls in 1967…ooops that dates me. If I had a quarter for every time in my life someone started singing “Michelle, my bell” after I introduce myself, I’d have a piggybank full of quarters!
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!!
My name was my great-grandmother’s.
Catherine says
FABRIC ME!
My name is my grandmother’s first name. I hated it when I was a little kid and wished my parents would call me any of the tons of nicknames for it. I love it now and am glad I’ve always gone by my full name.

FABRIC ME!!!
Caty says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was obsessed with a character named Katie way back when on General Hospital. She loved the character’s personality and wanted her daughter to be like that. Also, in Gone With the Wind (movie), Scarlett’s first name is Katie.
When I was little, for some reason I wanted my name to be Missy. GOD am I glad that’s not my name! Haha.
Natalie says
FABRIC ME!
Natalie Anne- Natalie means “Christmas Child”; however, I was born closer to Thanksgiving! lol And I’m a third generation of the name Anne, which means “Grace”. A close friend once equated the two to that of ” Gifts of Grace”. I love it.
waterlooheather says
FABRIC ME!
My name, Heather, means flower and my maiden name (Cruickshank) means crooked leg, so technically, together my birth name was Flower Crooked Stem.
Thankfully my legs are actually pretty straight!
Cindy says
FABRIC ME!!
My first name doesn’t have any special meaning, I think it means “moon” or something. But my middle name Marianne is after my two great grandmothers, Mary and Anne.
Emily@ Tales of Fruit and Cake says

I’m redoing the master bedroom in grey and yellow and this would go a long way towards that!
Cat says
FABRIC ME!
Hmmm not really sure about my first name. But my middle name is the same as my moms!
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning – my mom has a very gender neutral name and hated it growing up, so I got the most typical girl name of all time!
Bec says
FABRIC ME!! My parents had Elizabeth and Charlotte on their shortlist for me, but my brother (who was 4 at the time) had other ideas. When I was born and still un-named he went into his nursery class and told everyone his little sister had arrived and her name was Rebecca. Everyone started sending cards and congratulating my parents on their new daughter ‘Rebecca’. No one has any idea where he got the name from but my parents had no choice but to keep it. I would have preferred Charlotte! lol
Emily says
FABRIC ME! My mom wanted an old fashion name. Little did she know it would become super popular less than 10 years later and now Emily is common. I also think it’s funny that the meaning behind Emily is “industrious” and that I’m a Saturday Child (“Works hard for a living”).
Why couldn’t it have been “afluent” and “gets to lay on her couch and watch TV and eat popcorn”?
Kim says
FABRIC ME!
My name is boring – it was the only thing my siblings and parents could agree on, but it ended up being a very common and uninteresting name!
Melissa says
Fabric me!
My Dad actually picked out my name. How sweet is that?!
Mara says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Irish from the Mary/Maura/Moira family of names. However, I have come to learn that it means “bitter” in Hebrew and “multiplication” or “many” in Kiswahili. I was named by my maternal grandmother.
*PS Best giveaway EVER!! I would love to spend the $$ on some fabric for quilts :)
Danalin says
My mom knew someone named Danalin…but everyone thinks I am named after my dad, Daniel. I love my name even though it is constantly mispronounced. :)
Janeen says
FABRIC ME! I was named after the daughter of my mom’s babysitter.
Julie says
FABRIC ME!
no significance, parents just liked the name!
Laurie says
FABRIC ME!!
My legal name is Laura, but I’ve always been called Laurie…which is actually the family name. Not sure why they chose Laura in the first place. Either way, both names mean “laurel-crowned,” which means to wear the crown of victory. Too bad that never applied to athletics when I was growing up. But I like to think it means I’m winning at life. :)
Haylie says
FABRIC ME! My first name is a something my dad always wanted and my middle name is after my g-ma!
Amy says
FABRIC ME! No story behind the name… other than I think my dad wanted to call me Mehetabel, but Amy is what my mom AND dad could agree on. :)
Gretchen says
FABRIC ME!
My name was chosen after my Great Aunt. In my younger years I didn’t like having a somewhat long and unique name, but I don’t mind it as much now. :)
RoseAnn says
FABRIC ME!
My name is RoseAnn, and I was named after my two grandmothers Rose (my mom’s mom) and Ann (my dad’s mom). My grandma Ann passed away before I was born, but when I arrived as a preemie 7 weeks early, it was on her birthday, so she is also my guardian angel!
Milui says
FABRIC ME! That’s the nickname I’ve used for … gosh, over a decade now!
Danielle C. says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing exciting about my first name, but for my middle name (Nancy) I was named after my Aunt.
Anne says
Fabric me!
My name is not a family one, but I am hoping in the future it becomes one. The nickname my parents call me gets right at my heart every time I hear it.
Kathy says
Fabric me!!
My parents named me Kathy. Not because they liked the name, but because it went well with Karen (my sister’s name). Would have changed it as a kid, but it is what it is.
Katy says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my Great Aunt on my Mom’s side and a Great Great Grandmother on my father’s side. I did wish I had a different name while I was younger, but now I am glad that I was named after special family members.
Chrissi says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Chris. I have always hated it. It is hard to be a female named Chris (spelled with a C not a K)! I had to PROVE to the selective service that I was a female not a male! Everyone (mainly service providers) always assume that Chris is a male. I actually got mammagram results that were addressed to Mr. Chris…I know men also get them but they actually had that on my record!!
Thanks!
Aliesha says
FABRIC ME!
There’s not really a story behind my name… just that my parents liked it! No one can spell it right, but I like that it’s a unique spelling.
Laura Marcell says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my Mom’s favorite TV show and character when she was young girl…Little House on the Prarie (Laura Ingalls Wilder). I’ve always loved my name but not the all the wrong called variations….”Laurie”, “Lora”, “Laurel”, “Lauren”…..it’s just. Laura. :)
Danielle says
Fabric me! Puh-leaze :)
My name was chosen out of a baby-name book, by my older sister. My middle name is the English equivellant of my (Polish) grandmothers name :) When I was little I wanted my name to be Anastasia, I thought it sounded so glamorous…
