FABRIC ME!
My name was just a trendy girls name in the 70s. When I was growing up, I thought it was jusst my kids name cause there were no adults named Tara. I thought I was going to get my adult name later.
Melissa says
Fabric Me! I love this site…
No real significance behind my name unfortunately… I recently read it is a “Mom” name. Hmm.
Lily says
Fabric me! I’m named after Lily on As the World Turns. How awful is that?
Ilia says
Fabric Me! I am named after my maternal grandmother. It’s Greek for a looong name given the Virgin Mary meaning “drops of sun”. Hated it as a kid because it was so different, but I love and appreciate it as an adult. :)
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME!
My older brother actually picked my name when I was born! I think he did a pretty good job :)
Susan Williams says
Fabric Me! My first and middle name, Susan Raina, means “Lily Queen”. My parents had no idea at the time. My middle name was picked because it was raining when I was born. Coincidentally I love the rain and I love lilies (meaning of my first name).
Kimberly says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my mom’s friend.
Terry C says
FABRIC ME!
I have no idea how the ‘rents came up with Terry (just Terry, not Teresa or anything), but my mom did say that she wanted to name me Rachel and my dad vetoed it.
Catherine @ Happily Ever Crafter says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is my maternal grandmother’s middle name, and my middle name is my paternal grandmother’s first name. Both of my grandmothers were amazing women that I miss dearly. They were classy, lovely, joyful, brilliant women. They loved all things great and small, worked with their hands, and taught me many things about life.
And now that I’m married, I carry my husband’s last name so I love my name now even more than I ever have!
Lindsey R says
Fabric me! My Mom was obsessed with the “Lindsey” brand olives when she was pregnant with me – she loved the name and the olive obsession solidified their choice. I like my name but I always wished I had a nickname when I was a kid – not a whole lot you can do with Lindsey… Linds…Lin…Linny?!
Christine says
FABRIC ME!
My mom told her Irish grandmother that she was planning on naming me Caitlin, but my great-grandmother said “Oh no, it’s pronounced Kotch-lin! So that name was out, and I got Christine instead!
Catie says
Fabric me!!!
I am named after my great grandma Catherine.
Rebecca says
FABRIC ME! My dad picked out my name, vetoing my mom’s choice of Joy. He said he thought it sounded funny with our short last name. If I had been a boy, my name would have been Derek…which would have been weird, since I have an older brother named Eric…
kathleen says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing cool about the name but never shortened.
Lisa says
Fabric Me!
No exciting story here. I’m boring
Laura says
Fabric Me!!
The rule was whatever the gender of the first child (me) that parent got to pick the final name (with approval from the other). My mom liked my name, and gave me a variation on her name for my middle name, since she though daughters should be named after mothers, like sons were for fathers.
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!
Ashley is a family name.
Melissa says
FABRIC ME! My first name isn’t meaningful but my middle name (Ann) has been passed down for multiple generations!
emili says
fabric me!!
I was named after the wife on the Bob Newhart Show.

The German name Emily means – industrious,
The English name Emily means – hardworking.
Kristine G says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always loved my name and was working at the time with a ‘Christine’ whom she didn’t really care for. Just to ensure that chica didn’t think my mom was copying her, she changed my spelling to a ‘K’. Although barely anyone spells it correctly, I love having a funny story to my special ‘K’ name.
KL says
FABRIC ME!
In Gaelic, my full name means dark-eyed one of war and strife. I am dark-eyed, but I haven’t caused any wars that I’m aware of, so, bullet dodged?
Amna Ali says
FABRIC ME!
My name means peace, which is hilarious because my parents are the most unhippyesque people on the planet.
Danielle says
FABRIC ME!! I’m named after Danielle Steel :/
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My name was supposed to be “Katherine Elizabeth” which I think sounds very distinguished and professional, and is a name my grandmother picked out for me. However, when I born, my at the time 2-year-old brother couldn’t say “Katherine” so my parents went with a shorter “Katie Ann.” Which is fine, but sounds a bit more southern and a little less sophisticated.
Allison says
Fabric me!
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
My cousin mentioned my name and both my parents really liked it.
Jess says
FABRIC ME!! My name was originally going to be Rene, but my parents changed it to Jessica at the last minute. Now Rene is my middle name. : )
Jennifer Upchurch says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Jennifer and I was born in 1977 so I’m pretty sure my parents didn’t put a lot of thought into my name since it was the most popular girl’s name for about 20 years in the 70’s & 80’s! And it was not cool that every 3rd person in my class was named Jennifer either!
Danielle says
Fabric me!!
My mom read a lot is Danielle Steele novels while she was pregnant with me. So that’s where my name came from.
Laura says
fabric me! I am named after Laura Ingalls Wilder, which I kind of love.

Fabric Me!
My first and middle name (Emilie Lauren) are from my mother’s favorite author when she was growing up–she always loved the way that they looked and sounded together, and hoped to pass along her love of reading to me. I am happy to report that she most definitely did.
Catherine MacPhail says
FABRIC ME!
Not sure what my name means but my mother had a friend called Catherine when she was 6. She decided then that if she ever had a daughter she would call her Catherine. Luckily my dad also liked the name. I hated it when I was a teenager – desperately wanted to be a Cathy as it seemed less serious. Now I am definitely a Catherine.
Colleen says
FABRIC ME!
My name means little girl in Gaelic. I love the Irish tradition!
Erica says
FABRIC ME!
I would love to win this! I have been eyeing the top middle fabric to use to make roman shades for my kitchen window.
My parents picked the name Erica because my mom saw in a romance novel that she was reading, and she liked it. Funny thing is that the character in the book was the “villain”. They also chose it because my maiden name is German, and they said it was a nice German name to go with our last name. I grew up in the South and knew very few Erica’s growing up, however when I went to college in Pennsylvania it seemed to be much more common.
Kerry says
FABRIC ME!
I am named for my Dad’s favorite part of Ireland. I didn’t like it when I was younger, but I have grown into it by now.
Heather says
fabric me!
My name is a flowering shrub :)
Jeanna Sanchez says
FABRIC ME!!
Well my name plagues me daily..lol My mom picked my name and named me after her “favorite aunt” which is named Jeannie. My mom didn’t want to name me exactly Jeannie, so she changed it up to Jeanna. You would think I would be pronounced(G anna) but nope its pronounced(Gina). So every time I go somewhere they don’t know me or I get a phone call they always get it wrong lol. Oh well..Love you Mom!
Stephanie Jones says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Stephanie Leann. My first name was picked after the spoiled rich girl “Stephanie” from the Bob Newhart Show and my middle name was picked after Leanne from the soap opera Capitol. All from the ’80s. I only wish for a different name when I go anywhere for an appointment (doctor, dentist, hair, you name it) and there are always 5 other Stephanie L Jones’s. It’s kind of funny that I wound up marrying a Kenneth, too, as that was supposed to be my name if I was a boy.
Meredith says
My parents named me for one of the meanings, “will be a guardian.”
Neat.
Roxanne R. says
Fabric me!
My dad told me once that I was named after a Golden Earring song…about a…loose lady (what is UP with my name and those songs??).
My mom once told me that it was for “Rock and Roll.” My sister’s name is Melody, so I guess they wanted kids with musical-ish names?
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my grandmother and my mother.
KENDRA says
fabric me!!
I have always liked my name for the most part, just because it was never that common – although it’s becoming more and more popular the older I get!
Nikki B says
FABRIC ME!
I was born in December and was a girl, so they went with Nicole instead of Nicholas. For the saint. However, my father wanted to name me Azure, and I am sometimes thankful he didn’t get his way, and sometimes sad that I didn’t end up with a funkier moniker.
Carey says
FABRIC ME! My parents were going to name me Chase whether I was a boy or girl, but the week before I was born my dad was watching a Chicago Cubs game and Harry Caray was the announcer. They loved the name Carey and didn’t spell it exactly like Harry’s! but i am to this day a Cubs fan that lives in KY!
Alex says
My grandparents chose my name. My parents wanted to name me after my grandfather- Herbert- and gratefully my grandfather told them it wasn’t a good name or a child and suggested my great grandfathers name- Alex-instead.
Jenn in FL says
FABRIC ME!
My parents had been told that I was a boy, then…surprise! So instead of Jason, I became Jennifer. Knowing they had to scramble for a name at the last minute helps me forgive my parents for giving me the most common name of the early 1980s :).
Lauren says
FABRIC ME! I’m Lauren because my mom’s lamaze teacher’s daughter was named Lauren, and my parents liked it. My best friend growing up was also Lauren, and we always loved having the same name:)
Kandice says
Fabric me! My dad liked the name Kandice so its what I got. Somewhat unusual which I like and I’ve never met another Kandice spelled the same way. I did find a really old can of “kand ice” (used to keep food in coolers cold, get it?) from my husbands grandfathers house, so that was pretty cool.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
Emily, I hear, is latin for industrious. But I’m pretty sure my parents just liked the sound of it. It was better than Elizabeth, their second choice, which they thought had too many possible nick-names
