After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Vivian B. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means lively and I love my name. I think celebrities are catching on now too… from Angelina Jolie to Gisele!
Ashley says
FABRIC ME! Not much interesting about my name…lots of people named their daughters Ashley in the 80s. But I’m the third kid so my parents kept up the trend of giving their kids names with the initials AJS.
Kate says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is Katherine after my grandmother and aunt. My middle name (Pratt) is my other grandmother’s maiden name as well as my mom’s middle name. It is now also my nephew’s middle name!

FABRIC ME!!

Debby G says
FABRIC ME!
No meaning behind my name, my parents just liked it. I think Debbie Reynolds was popular at the time, and inspired the name.
Alex says
Oh I forgot- “fabric me!”
Sarah Kim says
Fabric me…..my mom always loved Sarah and even though her sister had named her daughter Sarah 7 months before I was born, she stuck to it. Now, even at 30 our family calls us by our first and middle names.
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME!
All of us girls have “e” sounding-names – Angie, Traci, Lindsey :)
Jennifer C says
Fabric Me! There is no special significance to my first name, I’m just a child of the 70’s, but my middle name is one that is passed down. It was my great grandmother’s middle name and on down, all the way to my daughter. I hope that someday she will pass it on too, and how she got her middle name.
Emily says
Fabric me! No interesting story here, my parents just liked the name.
Jamsby says
FABRIC ME!
My parents won’t give me any insight into picking my name. I’m their 6th, so I think it was just leftover from an earlier list. :)
Suni says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my maternal Grandfather Sonny, who was sufficiently my favorite person all my life, let alone hero. :)
Anita says
FABRIC ME!
According to my dad (who named me), it’s easy to pronounce and a universal name used in many different cultures.
kat says
fabric me! the only thing i can think of is that two of my mom’s oldest friends are also named versions of Katherine. I go by Kat now because if I get called by all 9 letters of it, I’m in trouble!!! Oh and I’m such a fabric junkie— would of course love more (not that I NEED more, just would LOVE more =P)
Caitlin says
FABRIC ME! I was named after Dylan Thomas’s wife… obscure, huh? This was in ’83 before Caitlin was a popular name.
Elisa says
Fabric Me! I don’t know of any special meaning to my first name. My middle name is the same as my grandmother’s, my mother’s, and now my daughter’s.
Brooke says
FABRICE ME! My name is pretty straight forward. Brooke means “flowing water.” No real significance. They were sure I was going to be a boy, so they were set to name me Jacob. When they saw I was a girl, they were stumped. I’m just glad they didn’t go for Jacobina. I don’t think that would have suited me at all.
Michaela says
FABRIC ME! Thanks.
emily c. says
FABRIC ME!
My name is the runner-up. My mom loved Elizabeth, but my dad wanted to then call me “Lizzie”–which my mom hated, so Emily it was!
Morgan says
FABRIC ME!
And I used to not like my “boyish” name when I was a little girl, but now I love it (and I think today there are actually more girls named Morgan than boys).
Kim says
FABRIC ME!
No real meaning behind Kimberly, but my middle name (Rose) came from my Great Aunt.
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!!
No special meaning to my name :( My parents (along with about ten million other parents from 1988-1993) just thought it was nice. I’ve always wished I had a different name, something a little more unique.
Hilary says
Fabric me!
My name means cheerful and merry. Myom picked it because she thought it was pretty and thought it would be unique.
Laura says
Fabric me! Hmm, I don’t know as though there is any store behind my name. I’m going to have to ask my mom the next time I talk with her.
Ellen says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is a name my mom always liked when she was a kid and my middle name is also my mom’s middle name.
Rachel says
FABRIC ME!
Rachel is a bible name, and my middle name is the same as my mom’s only sister.
emma says
FABRIC ME!!!
my first name isn’t anything “special” but my middle name is my mom’s first name. I always wanted to change the spelling of it because of how much space it takes up. Karen has all wide letters… but it’s a nice name to have now.
Chantelle says
FABRIC ME! I got my name because my mom always loved it. AT least one of us does… But I’ve heard much worse, so I won’t complain too much, haha.
Kay W says
FABRIC ME! My name is Kayleigh, my parents chose it because it was a popular song at the time by a band called merillion. The song after it on the album happened to by my surname, which they got a kick out of.
Dee says
FABRIC ME!
No interesting story for my first name, but my grandmother, mother and myself have the same middle name.
meghan says
FABRIC ME!!
My parents picked my middle name Meghan because they liked the way it sounded. But my middle name Lauren my mom picked because she really liked her Ralph Lauren perfume! I always thought that was such a random reason :)
Christy says
Fabric Me!!!! I am a fabricaholic…so obviously supporting the habit for free would be completely awesome.

Sarah Christie says
FABRIC ME!! My first name Sarah is named after my great grandma on my moms side and Christie was my great grandma on my dads side……my parents had been planning on going with Daisy but did Sarah Christie instead. Thankful its not Daisy(sounds more like a Dog to me! lol)
Susan says
FABRIC ME! No significance to my family other than it was a popular name at that time, along with Karen, Lisa and Jennifer. As a kid, I wanted to be an Erica so very badly!
Whitney says
Fabric Me! My parents just liked the name- and my middle name is a family name.
Kady says
Fabric Me!!
My name means ‘Pure’!!
But it was picked because my mom heard it on a TV show and fell in love with it!!
HeidiG. says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name my twin and I April and May and my dad said you can’t name girls April and May when they are born in March so lets just name them Heather and Heidi…and it was so.
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME! I guess I look like my name, because it was down to Adrienne or Stephanie and my mom swore I just “looked like” a Stephanie. My middle name has a funny story – it’s my dad’s second favorite aunt’s name, because his favorite aunt’s name was just too much Southern for my Californian momma.
Tara Figi says
FABRIC ME! My name is Tara, but when I meet people they often hear Sara or Kara. Sometimes I correct them, sometimes I just roll with it. Perhaps I should create alter egos?? Hmmm…..
Rachel @ RachelRuns29.11 says
FABRIC ME!
I used to want to be named “Diamond” or “Jem” after my favorite cartoon. Classy, I know.
Rachelle says
Fabric Me!
Hollyann says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after “Hollyann”, a song by the band Boston in the 80’s. The problem was–I spent the greater part of my childhood telling friends that the song was named after me. When I was old enough to understand otherwise, my parents said, “no honey, we named YOU after the SONG”. Ohhhhh…Bummer! Still love having an unusual name though!
Catherine Mentillo says
FABRIC ME!!
I’m named after my grandma. :) But it made for a very long name (my maiden name had 10 letters) that usually didn’t fit on scantrons!
And I always wanted my name to be Laura, or Lisa or Lynne. But only becasue I really liked the way L looks in cursive. Weird, I know.
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME! My name was chosen, no family history. Though my middle name is my mother’s. I can definitely remember being a teenager and wishing I had a more interesting name.
Alice says
FABRIC ME!
My mother had a few names picked out, but my father was most adamant that I was an Alice. :)
tracy says
FABRIC ME!
Somewhere along the way, my parents narrowed down my name choice to Tracy and Stacy. Once mom learned of dad’s ex-girlfriend (Stacy), they went with Tracy, which I MUCH prefer anyways. And my middle name is different from others in the family; my mom wanted to name me “for myself,” not after someone else, which is interesting.
