After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Christina says
FABRIC ME!
My parents both agreed on the name Christina but debated between whether to spell it with a “Ch” or “K”. Obviously “Ch” won out as my dad thought it looked more elegant than the “K”.
Michelle says
“FABRIC ME!”
My first name is my aunt’s middle name and my middle name is my mom’s middle name. If mom had her way I would have been Dallas Andre… I have no idea how she came up with that but I’m happy dad stepped in. :)
Katie Dyson says
FABRIC ME! My parents named me Katelan but have never called me that even when they’re upset. I’ve been Katie from the beginning. It’s a weird spelling so I’ve always gotten funny looks and mispronunciations on the first day of class!
valerie says
FABRIC ME!! middle name is camille, my dad got it from some hurricane or tornado, guess that’s fitting?!?
ashley says
FABRIC ME!
ashley was just a name my parents liked, but my middle name anne is after my mom’s sister that passed at a young age, elizabeth ann. even neater is that all of my mom’s siblings named their first daughter after her, with the middle name either being elizabeth or ann.
Poet says
FABRIC ME! And as for my name, My mom named me after Edgar Allen Poe, so my nickname would be Poe (also one of her favorite poets). When I was younger (grade school) I really didn’t like it & wished my name was something more normal — but now that I’m older, I love having such a weird name :) lol
candice gower says
FABRIC ME!!
my name has no cool meaning nor any neat reason for their picking it! Lame I know..
Jessica says
FABRIC ME! My mom used to name her baby dolls my first and middle name. So when she had a daughter, she knew exactly what name to use!
Danielle says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my dad (Daniel). I was originally going to be named Elizabeth Danielle, but then my grandfather said he was going to call me Lizzie or Bethy. This freaked my mom out, so she flipped the names. It worked out pretty well considering how much like my dad I am and how well we get along :)
Kathleen says
FABRIC ME!
my parents went back and forth between kathleen and kimberly and decided they didnt want it shortened by people to kim.. however people always try to shorten my name to kathy sooo.. shrug
Sapphira says
FABRIC ME!
My mom named all three of us girls with a gemstone theme. My half-sisters are Pearlene and Opalene (their dad’s family has a tradition of all girls’ names ending with -lene such as Terrylene and Natalene, so their names actually carry two themes). My name, Sapphira, she picked because it comes from sapphire, is in the bible, and she wanted my dad and I to have to same initials (my dad’s name is Steve). Sapphira is also biblical Greek for “beautiful”. I love my name because it is so uncommon and I love knowing that my parents put so much thought into it!
Becca says
FABRIC ME!
My parents wanted to use the initials ‘R’ and ‘A’ for two of my great grandmothers, so I’m Rebecca Ann. They said if I were a boy it would have been Andrew Ryan :)
Kala says
FABRIC ME!
MY name itself doesn’t have any significance but because I have a twin brother we have theories as to how our parents came up with Kyle and Kala rather than their first thought of Ashley and Zack! Also, my spelling is slightly different than the usual Kayla which we guess is so both of our names had the K and four letters! I LOVE my name though.
Karen says
Fabric Me!!!!
Kristen says
FABRIC ME!!
I would loooove a fabric gift certificate to get me motivated to hang curtains in our bedroom and office!!!
Natasha says
FABRIC ME! My first name was in a book that my dad had read. I have two middle names, both after my grandmas :)
Rachael says
Fabric Me!
No fascinating story here just that growing up it drove me nuts that no one could spell it right.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My name doesn’t have any special meaning, but any of my 3 sisters or I had been a boy, we would have been named Alexander (and gone by the nickname Sasha) in honor of the Russian side of my family. Growing up in East Texas, we were always grateful that we were girls!
Dale Day says
FABRIC ME! I got my first name from my grandmother. The only problem is that my parents decided to call me by my middle name. That caused a lot of confusion in elementary school. I spend the first week of school always answering to my ‘first’ name and then asking the teachers to call me by my ‘real’ name.
Meghan Brown says
Fabric Me!
My parents named me Meghan like every other baby girl born in 1983…j/k, but there are a lot of Meghans ( or Megan/Meagan/Meaghan) my age! They did pick this spelling because it was the Irish spelling, and my grandfather was part-Irish.
I would love the fabric to make a headboard for our bedroom and to recover some old chairs!
Jessi says
FABRIC ME!
My parents are both teachers and their criteria included that they could never have had a student with a name they would name their kid. I was named Jessica and in 1982 when I was born, that was the top girls name but they’d never taught one before!
sarah & john says
“FABRIC ME!”
Sarah meaning princess. also pure and happy
Lenore says
Fabric me! My full name is Lenore Hollis Yaeger, which comes from two places. My Dad’s mom – Lenore Yaeger, and my Mom’s grandma, Lenore Hollis. When my parents met they realized that they both have always wanted to name their daughter Lenore, so it was inevitable. I love it!
Christina says
FABRIC ME!
My name is my grandma’s middle name. My middle name, Dawn, is definitely influenced by my mom’s love of the song “Delta Dawn”. Special.
Colleen says
FABRIC ME!
My parents wanted a “good Irish name.” They were originally planning to name me Shawn (girl or boy) but then my cousin was born and got that name. I’m happier with Colleen anyway!
Sherri Sanchez says
FABRIC ME!
My parents knew a very nice woman named Sherri.
Anne says
Fabric me! My parents really just liked “Anne”, although if my great-grandmother asks, I’m named after her.
Bethany says
FABRIC ME! I was supposed to be Benjamin until I arrived…my mom wanted to name me Lacy Grace, but thankfully my Dad put his foot down and Bethany stuck…
Marie says
FABRIC ME!
Each one of my grandmothers and great-grandmother had at least my first name or my middle name in their names (back when up to 3 to 4 names were a common thing, at least here in Germany), some even had both my names! I think it’s great that I’m named after all those strong women in my family and I’m proud to carry on my name. Although I find it quite funny that my older sister is not named after any one in my family :D
Sarah Best says
Fabric Me!
My name means Princess. I was almost an Elizabeth, but ended up with Sarah instead. I always dream what my life would have been like as a Liz or Beth or Lizzy or Eliza… Sarah has no nicknames :(
Ashley says
FABRIC ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dinka says
FABRIC ME!
…my REAL name (which I don’t use online! :-P) was picked out by my dad from a baby book: he literally flipped through the pages, stuck his finger down, and there I was. :-) I’ve always liked my name because it’s a little unique and I was proud to have a name growing up where people would kind of do a double take when they heard it.
I will confess, however, that there was a point when I was five years old that I begged and begged and begged my mother to let me change my name to Princess Aurora (a la Sleeping Beauty). She finally relented, but told me that I would be responsible for getting myself down to the courthouse and doing all of the paperwork. My deep, abiding hatred for paperwork continues to this day. Thusly, my name remains the same.
Jamie S. says
FABRIC ME! When I was in junior high, I thought that Kelly Kapowski was the coolest chick on the planet. So I told my parents and friends to call me “Kelly.” I wouldn’t respond to any other name for weeks. True story.
Becky F says
Fabric me!
No special story behind my name, but I am glad that my parents did not choose my grandpa’s choice: Kolinka.
Tara says
FABRIC ME!
My middle name was my Grandmother’s middle name. I Love old family names just as much as I love Fabric!!!
Crystal @ 29 Rue House says
FABRIC ME!! My dear Grandma (who has passed) use to tell me that I was named Crystal Dawn because I was born in the early morning hours as the sun was coming up and there were crystals on the trees (I was born in February so it is winter out). Of course I later learned it wasn’t true at all but I definitely cherish that story along with so many other moments with her.
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
Heather means plant or something like that. There is no family significance. My dad wanted to name me Heidi but thankfully my mom didn’t like that name so I guess Heather was kind of a compromise.
Brooke says
FABRIC ME! My name means a body of water (quite obviously) but my parents called me Babbling Brooke when I was a kid… I was a talkative one!
Lori Wojciechowski says
FABRIC ME!! We are buying our first house and I have lots of drapery that I’m making. Winning this giftcard would be a huge blessing.
Anna says
Fabric Me!!!
I was named after my aunt, but to be somewhat different they went with Anna instead of Hanna…
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My dad was raised by his three single aunts: Violet, Hazel, and Iris. My parents wanted to name me after them, so they kept with the flower theme and named me Heather.
Sarah J. says
FABRIC ME!
As far as I know, my parents just liked the name Sarah. I often wished for a less plain or less common name, though, especially in college when there were five Sara(h)s on my hall in the dorm.
Meghan says
FABRIC ME! My mom was reading the Thorn Birds while she was pregnant with me.. one of the characters was named “Megan.” My mom just switched the spelling to the more Irish version.
Jocelyne says
FABRIC ME!
If I was a boy, my 70s R&B loving dad wanted to name me Otis. My mother’s solution to this was to adopt the policy that if I was a girl, dad got to decide the first name and mom got to decide the middle name, and vice versa if I was a boy….So instead of being the boy, Otis, I am the girl, Jocelyne.
Jordan says
Fabric me!!
No significance to Jordan, really. But growing up it still wasn’t quite considered a unisex name and I was disappointed every year in elementary school when my desk name tag would be blue instead of pink or that I would get the boy version of the homework paper clip instead of the girl one! But now that I’m older I love my name :) thanks mom and dad!
Laura says
Fabric Me!
Unfortunately no cool story behind the name.
Amanda says
FABRIC ME!!
My name means beloved.
Hannah says
FABRIC ME!
I am named after my 13th great grandma (great^13 grandma? pretend that’s an exponent? haha), who came to the US from england in the 16th century! my father did our entire family tree before I was born, and named me after her.
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
My dad wanted to name me Kate after his grandmother but my mom thought that was not a real name so they agreed on Kathryn. Funny thing is no one calls me that – I have been known as Katie since I was a baby!
Ashley Foresman says
FABRIC ME!
My mom named me ‘Ashley’ because she thought no one else would have that name! ….Go figure :o)
