After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric me!
I am named after my paternal grandmother and have my maternal grandmothers maiden name as my middle name. I used to wish I had a different name, but now I appreciate the meaning behind it!
Margaret Myers says
Fabric Me! would love to be able to help my daughter decorate her house. She has wonderful ideas and very often she is inspired by what you have online and in your book.
I was named after 2 grandmothers and I am grateful I was nicknamed Peggy. I much prefer that name.
Carole says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my aunt (Carol with no E), who was named by her older brother because she was born in December.
Ashley J says
FABRIC ME!
My name doesn’t have anything super special with it, but one thing that I wish my mom would have pushed harder for was the spelling of it. Her maiden name was Leighton, and she wanted to spell it Ashleigh. That would have been cool!
Sarah B says
FABRIC ME!!!
My name means a “Hebrew princess.” The cool part is my middle name, though, because it’s my mother’s middle name as well as my Grandmother’s middle name. All of us are firstborn, so I’m looking forward to passing that down to my firstborn when the time comes.
Holly Burns says
FABRIC ME! My name is Holly. No special meaning behind it but people always think my birthday must be around Christmas time. But my birthday is actually in May!
Judy says
FABRIC ME!
I didn’t really love my name growing up, but I’ve definitely warmed up to it and appreciate that it’s not super-common.
katie says
FABRIC ME!!! My parents named me Katie because my sister’s favorite book at the time was about a Katydid and she really loved the name! So I am named after a bug!! I guess there are worse bugs to be named after though!!

Lori Beth Clark says
Fabric Me!
I am named after the babysitter that watched my sisters while my parents went to the hospital. (They had a boy’s named picked out, but I was not a boy!)
Aerie Treska says
FABRIC ME!
My name means the nest of an eagle or large bird of prey, and my parents chose it because a. they are English teachers b. Treska (my last names) has heavy consonants that they wanted to counterbalance and c. it was the name of a groovy John Denver album. I love my name, but am sad to now have to share it with underwear stores across America :(.
LOVE you guys….read this every day and just got your book too!
Aerie
Kari says
FABRIC ME!
My name came from the awesome Hollie’s song Carrie Anne. It was playing in the hospital when I was born and the only name my parents could agree on.
Divah says

FABRIC ME! My name is Danica and it means “morning star”
Colleen says
Fabric me!
My parents wanted an Irish name to go w/our last, but my middles (yes, two–it was forever confusing & never fit completely on forms) are my Mom’s first & maiden names.
I’ve carried a simplified version of that tradition on somewhat w/my son, giving him an Irish first name, and my maiden name (also Irish) as his middle–more of a concession really for giving up my last name…
Kristen says
FABRIC ME!!
No special meaning behind my name – it was my Mom’s childhood best friend’s name, and she really liked it!
wilma says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after my mom’s oldest sister, except that I was given the English version of the name. It means “guardian”.
Kate says
FABRIC ME! No special meaning. My dad seemingly plucked it out of thin air the night before I was born
Amanda E says
Fabric me!
Amanda means “worthy of love”. My mom wanted to name me Katherine but my dad didn’t like it. She finally talked him into it for the next baby… and then they had two boys. No Katherine for Mom! :)
Sara says
Fabric me! My mom just liked the name!
Lindsay says
FABRIC ME!
My parents thought I was a boy, so they didn’t have any girls names picked out when I was born. My dad picked my first name & my mom picked my middle name.
Connie says
FABRIC ME
Parents agreed on Constance. Our last name was long as well so when my Dad filled out the paperwork he decided that was too long a name for such a tiny girl.
Colleen says
FABRIC ME!!
My name means “Girl” in Irish. Not sure why my parents picked it…
Britt F. says
Fabric me!! I was actually named after a neighborhood in our hometown, Brittany Woods. Luckily they dropped the “woods”;) Ironically, I plan to name our future daughter after a neighborhood as well. Who needs baby name books in my family? Apparently we just drive around town.
Sarah says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Sarah Elizabeth. Nothing special about how they chose it, but I was once told that Sarah means “princess” and Elizabeth means “queen.” I still haven’t been told where my crown is, but I take advantage of the titles now and then! =)
Liz says
FABRIC ME! Nothing special behind my name – but there are several nicknames with stories! :)
Sara says
FABRIC ME!!
My great-grandmother’s name was Sara, but my parents also just liked the name. It means Princess in Hebrew. I always loved the name Mollie (my mom’s name) and have said forever that if my name wasn’t Sara, I’d want it to be Mollie. That’s why we’ll be naming our first daughter Mollie! My mom could not be more thrilled.
Kat Lyons says
FABRIC ME! Please!
Apparently my named was inspired by a TV reporter (???), but then they decided to slightly change my middle name.
But interestingly, my name is kinda feline –> Check out my desk name plate http://pinterest.com/pin/228557749811225638/
Anna says
FABRIC ME!
My first name I’ve always loved, but my last name, with its mishmash of consonants and only one vowel (for 9 letters) – well, let’s just say that I’m really excited to get married this summer and change it to a simple, four-letter last name :)
angela says
Fabric Me! I can’t think of anything too special about my name. People always ask if I prefer Ang or Angie or Angela. I go by anything!
Jeanette says
FABRIC ME!
I was thisclose to being named Jennifer. This was in the early 1970’s. At the last minute my mom decided that a) Jennifer might get too popular and b) “Jenny” sounded terrible with our last name (It did. Thanks, Mom!). So they went back several decades and found Jeanette. Now, instead of being one of several Jennifers, I get “Hey, that’s my grandmother’s name!”.
Tonya says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, my mom just liked it. People always ask me if it’s from Doctor Zhivago. But my middle, Linnea, was my grandmother’s name. I also gave it to my daughter. I think it’s lovely.
Kelsey says
Fabric me!
My mom’s grandparents immigrated from Sweden so they chose a Swedish name for me. It means “from the ship land” which fits because of, you know, all the ship sailing I do! I’m kidding of course, but despite the weird meaning I always liked my name growing up because it was unique among the Jennys and Jessicas and Lindseys and Ashleys. We chose our daughter’s name, Lila, because it means “You are mine” in Hebrew and her middle name, Josephine, because it means “blessed.” Both her names are also literary references (Gilead and Little Women).
Maureen says
FABRIC ME!
My parents liked my name – fun story huh?!
Flora Ismail says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my dad’s favorite aunt Flora. My daughter was also named after her great aunt Ella!
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!!!
I don’t have a great story about my name but as a kid growing up I would catch frogs and name each of them Bob, and then number them. My frog-catching buddy in 1st grade wanted to name them after his dad and it stuck! I know we got at least to the 40s but then we likely lost count.
And I have been a home decor fabric nut the last few weeks. Curtain fabric, reupholstering ottomans, pillows, new duvet, dog bed, etc… so I would be beyond thrilled to have free money to spend!!!
Michael says
FABRIC ME!
It was either that or Michelle, but since I’m a dude, I’m glad they went with Michael.
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
My name means beloved, but I think my parents picked it because I’m the youngest and my sisters names both start with A too.
Kenna says
fabric me – I was named after my dad.
Stacie says
Fabric me! My dad was an elementary school music teacher and Stacie was one of the few names that didn’t remind of a student.
Lauren says
Fabric Me, my middle name is my mom’s name, and both grandma’s and many other family members!
Kate says
FABRIC ME! :)
My name (Kathryn Elizabeth) is actually a family name from way back… I have 3 older brothers, and it was always my parents’ “girl name”. (Well, one time my mom was pregnant around the same time as one of their good friends – the friend had her baby first and named her Kate, so they changed it to Sarah Elizabeth. Thankfully, Peter Charles was born, and it went back to Kathryn until I finally came along!) Anyway, the names hail from my mom’s side of the family, which is good, because we had a Hertha on my dad’s side… (no offense intended toward anyone here named Hertha!)
Ryan M says
FABRIC ME!
…My name seems to have come from nowhere. But get this – I was almost DAKOTA. And I’m a dude! What a terrible idea! (No offense to your male readers named Dako…HAHAHA nevermind)
Elizabeth says
FABRIC ME!
My first name, Elizabeth, comes from my mom’s side of the family. It’s been in every generation dating back to the civil war. The Elizabeth during the civil war was known as Wild Betsy Stein after her husband was killed, leaving her with several children, during the Civil War.
My middle name, Jeanne, is after my step grandmother on my dad’s side, who drove my mom to the hospital on a daily basis when I decided to be a month late.
Amelia says
FABRIC ME!
I’m named after Amelia Earhart and the Joni Mitchell song, ‘Amelia.’
wendy says
FABRIC ME!!!
I think my mom just liked the name… it’s certainly not part of our Ukrainian Mennonite heritage! I do know, though, that my dad was super excited to have a daughter, though, as he grew up in a family of 7 boys…
Shannon says
Fabric Me!
Well, it goes something like this: My mother wanted to name me Sharon, but that apparently was the name of an ex-girlfriend of my dad’s … so when that came to light, my mother picked “Shannon” instead. But for some reason my dad forgot to mention that “Shannon” was the name of his golden retriever growing up. So yes, I have always wished for a different name, for obvious reasons. :)
Jessica marini says
Fabric me :). My name doesn’t mean anything. My momma just liked the way it sounded with my bizarre last name(maiden). I like my name and wished it was different when I was younger because there were at least 1 other Jessica in every class I had and I have 5 Jessica’s in my 6th grade class!
