After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Amanda says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my grandmother whose name was Amorette. My mom thought that sounded too much like an alcholic beverage, so Amanda was the next best thing. :)
Jessica says
Fabric me!
My name was just the name that my parents liked the best–they thought it was unique until they met 3 babies with that name right before I was born…but at that point they liked it too much to pick a different name.
Chitra says
FABRIC ME! My name in Hindi means ‘picture’ – it refers to someone who is ‘arty farty’. I live up to it well :)
Serena Brittingham says
FABRIC ME!!
My name means “peaceful”. I was named after my Hungarian grandmother whose name was spelled “Szerena” which is kind of cool. As a child I did not like my name but as I grew older I realized it was a beautiful, unique and special name.
adrienne says
FABRIC ME! i was named after adrienne clarkson, former governor general of canada
JillM says
FABRIC ME!
I have no idea how my parents landed on my name. :)
Libby says
FABRIC ME!! I’m really Elizabeth (after a great grandmother?) but my older sister kept calling me me “Libeth” when I was born and then my parents settled on Libby for short!
Tamara says
Fabric me !
I was named after a clothing store.
Becky Davis says
FABRIC ME!
Literally, my name (Rebecca) means “chord with a noose” according to my mom’s baby book, but kinder translations have yielded “ensnarer” or “captivating”.
JP says
Fabric me! My name doesn’t have any meaning except that it was the result of an argument between my parents that (thankfully) my mom won. My dad wanted to name me Allan after himself….except Allan is not exactly a good girly name.
Courtney L. says
Fabric Me!
Leah Morris says
FABRIC ME! My dad came up with my name. Leah was unique in the late 80’s yet a classic Biblical name (I have two crazy catholic grandmothers lol). I like it a lot except when people pronounce it “lee” or the barista at Starbucks spells it “Leigh”
Amy says
FABRIC ME!!
No real meaning behind my name…but can I tell you about my daughters’ names?? My oldest is Meakin…my mom’s maiden name was Meakins and we just liked how it sounded. Trying to pick a name for daughter #2…my husband suggested Elan but I didn’t care for it. In the middle of this discussion the song “Alison” by Elvis Costello came on the radio…and we both came up with Ellyson by “combining” the two. And then came daughter #3. Someone suggested the name Wren, which I thought was cute…Marin was also suggested. Liked that, too. Combined the two (sort of) and came up with Marenna! I love all three! :) And we never once got to use Charles Philip OR Philip Charles. :)
Carol N. says
“FABRIC ME!”
My first name is Jo, as in the character in “Little Women”. My dad’s middle name was Joe, so this was a tribute to him. My middle name is the same as my mom’s, Caroline. I always wanted to be ‘JC’ but the parents didn’t go for that.
Heather says
FABRIC ME!
My mom thought it was pretty.
Carla says
Fabric me!

FABRIC ME!
No big significance to my name – although I do believe that Jessica was one of the most popular names of the 80s! My middle name (Lee) is the same as my Dad’s though which I really like :)
RebeccaH says
FABRIC ME!
My mom wanted to name me Sarah Jean, but my dad thought that it was too plain. They ended up with Rebecca instead!
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!
Nope, no great story! Melissa means “honey bee” though, *cringe*
Jane says
FABRIC ME! I used to think Jane was from Jane Eyre, til I read te book and realised she’s not the greatest character! Elizabeth (my middle name) is after my aunt…
Katie Lewis says
FABRIC ME! My name runs in the family — both middle and first.
Sese says
Fabric me!
My parents gave me a simple name, Cece. No middle names with it, so I guess that’s unique enough, don’t have to fill in that middle initial part when it comes to it.
Julie says
FABRIC ME! My mother said that I was named after my great aunt Juliette because she was always smiling. I didn’t like my name when I was younger so I shortened it to Julie but I have since wished that I had left it the way it was.
Melissa says
Fabric ME!!!!
It was between Melissa and Melinda and I always wished they would have picked Melinda!
Lea Burke says
FABRIC ME!
Lea is a family name.
Malia says
Fabric me! I’m named after my mom’s baby sister. My mom also liked that it is a nod to Hawaii, where she grew up!
Lessie says
FABRIC ME!
It’s an old family name. Don’t know what it means or where it originated, but it’s always a conversation starter. Of course, there is also the almost daily correction when people think I said my name is Leslie, Lacy, Lucy, Lisa…I’ve gotten it all!
Casey says
Fabric Me!
My mom picked my real name (Cassandra), and my dad agreed if I went by the nickname Casey. Now many people don’t even know Casey isn’t my real name.
Allyson says
Fabric me! Allyson means noble. My mom just liked the name after deciding halfway through the pregnancy that she no longer liked Lauren.

FABRIC ME!!!
Just a name my parents liked. : )
Seaweed & Raine says

My Dad gave me both of my names – my middle name is after one of his former girlfriends!
Beth says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my first name simply because they liked it and it’s meaning, and my middle name is my great-grandmother’s name.
Michelle says
Fabric Me!
Meaning behind my name, well I’m named after a great-grandmother. But an anglicized version of her name.
Jennifer says
FABRIC ME!!
My name has no meaning behind it, except for maybe my parents’ lack of originality. :) Although my mom likes to claim she was the first person EVER to name her child Jennifer….
Tammy Dowden says
Fabric Me.
I believe my last name is French (Boyer); my middle name Kay, is after my mothers best friend!
That’s all I know!!!
I would love to win fabric & sew, sew, sew!!
ellen says
Fabric me! Don’t really know much about the choosing of my name, but I like it well enough. I like being one of few and it makes me feel a bit dignified, if you will, to share a name with more elders than those my own age.
Kristin B. says
FABRIC ME!!!
My parents had some friends who had a blonde haired, blue eyed little girl named Kristin. They always loved the name and just knew that when they had a daughter they’d name her Kristin. Well, that’s my name and as a kid I had blonde hair and I still have blue eyes :)
rowena says
fabric me!
my name means “flowy white hair”… which is kinda creepy if you ask me.
Jessica says
FABRIC ME!
My parents chose my name as it was Shakespearean (Merchant of Venice) and one of my Mum’s favourite students!
I’ve always secretly felt like a Sophie though…
Kate Mac says
Fabric Me :)
My parents just liked my name – turned out after that I share it with a great aunt who goes by a different name.
Katy@TheOpenDoor says
FABRIC ME! My first name is Katherine, which is just a name both my parents liked. My middle name, Mary, is my mom’s middle name and my grandmother’s name. Katy spelled with a y used to be confusing for people (I got called Kathy a lot…), but now that there are some celeb Katys, not everyone assumes I spell my name K-a-t-i-e.
Michelle M. says
FABRIC ME!
Michelle = Michael = “Who is like the Lord”
– I try not to let it go to my head. (REALLY JK… I’m just regular.)
Anna Trout says
Fabric me! My full name is Annastacia and I am pretty sure my parents just liked it. I have four sisters and we all have old fashioned names. I just go by Anna though :) When naming our son we wanted to give him a name that had a cool story or meaning. We came up with nothing! We did however change his name a few days after he was born lol so I guess that makes for a pretty great story!
Lindsey says
FABRIC ME!!!
Not sure where my first name comes from, but my middle name (Anne) is both of my grandmothers’ middle name. Love family names!!!
Jamie says
FABRIC ME!
