After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

FABRIC ME!
No exciting meaning behind my name, my dad just liked it. He liked it with a K however, but my mom ended up spelling it differently, which I actually like more :)
Jackie Gerlach says
FABRIC ME! I’m not sure about a meaning for my name, but I was names “Jacqueline” in the Kennedy era.
Bonnie says
Fabric Me!
My parents made a list of names they liked, then crossed out the ones they could think of mean nicknames for, and picked from the few that were left. Maybe not the most romantic origin, but I appreciate that they thought ahead!
Sara says
FABRIC ME!!!
I’m named after my great grandma who was a very cool lady!
Melissa Simon says
So the name I go by now (most of the time), even at almost 32, is “Sissy”. My mom, dad, siblings have all called me this for as long as I can remember. When my parents brought me home, my older sister could not say Melissa, so they went with “Sissy” instead and it has stuck! But a funnier story goes with my given name, my older sister Angela was going to be named after my Aunt Susan originally, but they decided that the intials ASS (Angela Susan Spickler) just wasn’t appropriate for a newborn (or anything monogrammed) so I have the middle name of Susan instead. Just a funny story that I have always liked. Oh and FABRIC ME!!! Please!
Brittany Erin says
FABRIC ME! :D
I’m Irish and Welsh so my mom named me after the United Kingdom (Brittany = from Great Britain and Erin = Ireland). But my name is pronounced “Brit-ta-knee” (3 syllables) because a) it’s the spelling of a small island in France b) my last name is one syllable so my mom gave me a 3-2-1 syllable name Brit-ta-ny Er-in XXXXX. My mom also gave my brother a 3-2-1 syllable name (also an Irish/Welsh combination). :]
Alex says
Fabric Me! I love my name even though some people think I am a man.
Melissa R. says
FABRIC ME!
My name means BUMBLEBEE! Its from a greek story about a nymph or something that saves people from starving by teaching them about honey. I’m not sure why my parents settled on that name, but I’ve heard some of the other choices they were considering and I’m really glad they chose Melissa.
Shannon says
FABRIC ME!
My dad wanted something that sounded Irish and my mother wanted something traditional so I was named Shannon Elaine.
WI Gal says

FABRIC ME! Nothing real special…although I always think my mom was hoping for a boy and lived in France. My name is Michele Renee.
BreeAnn says
Fabric Me!
I’m named ofter the actress Brianne Leary (she was on CHIPS!) and so did a bunch of other parents that year. For it being a relatively unique name, I was one of 5 Brianne/Breanne/BreeAnn’s in my high school.

FABRIC ME! My parents loved my name and apparently so did a millions of other couples the year I was born. I hated growing up with 20 other Sarahs, but I appreciate that they didn’t do anything crazy now.

FABRIC ME!!!
When I was little, I HATED my name (it means baby lamb in hebrew…boring) so I tried to get everyone to call me Emily. I wrote my name as Emily on everything including in ALL of my picture books (my mother was not pleased).
I did grow out of it though and I love my name now. I think it’s classic and very feminine.
Marlea says
FABRIC ME!!
My mom says it means “little wild flower” but I don’t think I’d be picking floral fabric in its honor!
Nupur says
FABRIC ME! My name means “anklets” as in jewelry. My mother apparently has always loved the name so that’s what they named me.
Amanda Cooper says
FABRIC ME! I don’t think there is any particular meaning to my name (Amanda) my parents just liked it. Although I was almost Amanda Lynn–they decided against that after saying it aloud a few times.
Amber says
FABRIC ME!
I was actually named after a character in the book my mom was reading while pregnant. I was supposed to be Amberlynn, but everyone else in the family made her split it into two so my middle name is Lynn.
Lynn Tyler says
FABRIC ME!
My name is Lynn, there’s no special meaning really. My aunt’s middle name is Lynn. The only thing somewhat meaningful about my name is that my dad chose it and he died when I was 8.
Leslie White says
FABRIC ME!!!
One of my Mom’s co-workers was a lady named Leslie – she liked that it had the boys spelling too. I like my name :)
Katie says
FABRIC ME!
Name is Katie and it means purity, my parents just liked the name! They were going to name me Katherine Elizabeth and call me Katie Beth but my grandma said just name her Katie Beth, so they did :)
Tabitha Y says
FABRIC ME!
My parents say they, “just liked the sound of it,” and as an adult I agree. As a kid though, I hated my name due to all the oh so hilarious requests I got to twinkle my nose and do magic. (Like that old show Bewitched)
Chelsea says
Fabric me!
My name (Chelsea Elizabeth) doesn’t mean much sentimentally to our family. My parents divvied it up so my dad picked a middle name he liked and my mom picked a first name she liked. They didn’t know if I’d be a boy or a girl, but they could only decide on a girl name, so that turned out well. My mom had originally wanted to name me after a grandmother, but the options were Mary, Edna, Arzena, and Mabel, and my dad thankfully vetoed “Maybelline,” which was the only derivative she could think of.
Laura says
FABRIC ME! My name’s a family name, and I love it! My parents did a good job.
Jessica says
Fabric Me!
My mom used to watch a lot of Dallas. Enough said. lol
Haley Green says
FABRIC ME!!
My grandfathers name was Donald Hallett Clever Gibsone, Mum had been told she was definately having a boy and so had the name Hallett picked out. Few days before I was due she got the ‘feeling’I was going to be a girl and so adapted Hallett into Haley. Ta Da – Mum was right. A very girly girl was born – ME!!

according to family lore, a friend of my grandfather approached my mom with the name “carmine”. according to him, it could work with either a boy or a girl, and funnily enough, i’d be named after hm!
after listening politely for a few minutes, my mom responded with “her name is mary.” carmine couldn’t argue with that!
and for kicks, my middle name is a variation of my grandmothers name, eleanor. yes, both grandmothers are eleanor.
Lexie says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my aunt.
Dymphi says
FABRIC ME!
……named after my godmother.

FABRIC ME!
It means ‘pearl’ apparently. Not really sure of the significance – I think my mum just liked it. It was the only name they had picked out, even though the doctors thought I was going to be a boy. And for many years, I wished my name was Lucy – even called my Cabbage Patch Kid Lucy!
amanda says

My father, Rufino, wanted to name me after him…Rufina. Thankfully, my mother put the kibosh on that immediately and I was named Amanda after my great-great grandmother and great-great-great-great grandmother.
Jenn Eckerle says
FABRIC ME! I’ve been wanting to make new curtains for the entryway of our rental apartment (we want to buy soon but are still saving up for our dream home – this would help us save just a little more!)
My parents almost named me Jordana but chickened out at the last minute and named me Jennifer. Like a bazillion other little girls….
Ali says
