After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Fabric Me!
was named after a song :)
Kari @ Human, MD says
Fabric Me! It was the name of my mom’s college roommate, and is also Scandanavian in origin (which my mom’s family is). And it’s pronounced car (like you drive) – E
Kelly says
FABRIC ME! My first name was something that my parents liked for either a girl or boy. They kept the “boy” spelling and its funny cause everyone wants to spell it with an “ie” or “ey” at the end. Must be a midwest thing, my middle name ann is after my maternal grand mother who i never got to meet. She was a super loving and generous person so im glad i have something of hers.
Amy says
FABRIC ME! There’s no meaning behind my name, my parents just liked it. So did a lot of other parents in the 80’s — I went by my last name until I graduated from high school because there were so many other Amys :).
Suzanne T says
FABRIC ME! My father chose my name and told my mother it was after the actress Suzanne Pleschette, whom he liked. Turns out I was named after an old girlfriend of his!
Emily says
FABRIC ME! I’m not sure about the origin of my name, but a last minute first/middle name switch gave me (before I was married and changed names) the lovely initials ELF. I’m 5 foot even. Lots of mocking ensued.
Hannah says
Hannah means grace!
Kristin says
FABRIC ME! My name is Kristin and my birthday is in January so it has to do with Christmas….hence the middle name of Noel….Christmas + January = Kristin Noel.
Great giveaway!!
Erin says
Fabric me!
My parents chose my first and middle initials, because both my grandmothers had the same first two initials, and so did several other family members. Then they found names they liked that fit.
Erin T says
FABRIC ME! No meaning behind my name Erin, so I made sure our two kids, Imogen Grace and Jude Alexander, both were named after a family member and that their first names had a special meaning for myself and my husband.
Hannah says
Woops, sorry…
Fabric me!
Hannah means grace.
Sonya says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always liked the name Sophia, but she had already named her cat that. Sonya was a runner up.
Rebekah says
Fabric Me!
I love the spelling of my first name – Rebekah. Biblical, and different “enough” – but not totally strange!
Megan says
FABRIC ME! Nothing too meaningful behind my name, my parents just thought it was pretty.
Chelsea says
Fabric me! My parents first heard my name in the movie On Golden Pond
Anne Smyers says
FABRIC ME! Anne means grace, which I love… whether or not it applies, I’ll modestly leave others to decide (-:
Hannah says
My name means “grace”. It is also the same spelling forwards and wards…I’ve only had that pointed out to me a few dozen times :)
Colleen says
FABRIC ME! My mom liked it and my dad agreed :). It’s unique enough that I never had another ‘Colleen’ in my classes growing up, but I could still find my name on a miniature license plate at the toy store. Perfect!
Emelda says
Fabric Me! I was named after a family friend’s mother. Growing up I hated my name, but now as an adult love it’s uniqueness.
Megan Cuy Castellanos says
FABRIC ME!!!
Nothing too exciting about my name, except it was perfect for me! My mom tried to name both of my older sisters “Megan”, but each time my dad vetoed it. For some reason he decided he liked it when I came around, and the rest is history. :)
Christy says
FABRIC ME!
I was born premature and my parents hadn’t settled on a name. So, my sister, who was 6 at the time, named me. Thankfully, my name isn’t strawberry shortcake :)
David says
FABRIC ME!!!
My parents just loved the name and Biblical significance.
Sylvia says
FABRIC ME!
My mother always liked the name… and made it more “american” by spelling it with a y instead of i. It’s actually more used now, especially as “Sylvie” but I was always told it was the name of a grandma or great aunt.
Sarah Kenney says
FABRIC ME! I think I was named Sarah for biblical reasons. I’ve always wished it was something else.
Terra @ Simply Mrs. Edwards says
FABRIC ME!
My parents were full blown hippies, so it’s only fitting that they would name me something that means “earth” or “land”!
Caroline says
FABRIC ME!
No special story behind my name, but my mom and I both have my grandma’s name (Jane) as our middle name, and now my daughter does, too!
Amanda s says
Fabric me!! Amanda means worthy of love… And fabric. Okay maybe just love but I’d love some fabric too!
Brigid says
Fabric me! It’s Irish :)
Peggy says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was a bad speller and had 7 children, so she used names that were easy to spell.
Gail says
FABRIC ME! My first name doesn’t have any significance. However, my middle name is the same as my mothers!
Kristina says
FABRIC ME! Nothing special behind my name that I know of, other than my momma liked it. :)
Kelly says
Fabric me!
My parents picked my name because it begins with a K. All of us kids have names that begin with K and middle names that begin with L. My dad’s name begins with a K and my mom’s with an L. (such hippies!)
Cair says
FABRIC ME!
No special meaning for either my first or middle name. I did get my last name from my father, though. It’s been in his family for a long time :)
Jenny says
FABRIC ME!
My parents wanted to name me Melissa, but met a little girl with that name whom they did not like. Enter “jennifer”. Supposedly it was not so common back then.
Shannon Harrison says
FABRIC ME!
So. Many. Fabric. Ideas. Brain. Exploding.
My parents have told me that I’m named after the Irish airport… but not why :) ????????????
Caroline says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked the name, and that it’s also a feminine version of my dad’s name, Charles.
Kay says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was reading a romance novel when she was pregnant with me – Katy and the Bells. Most romance novel heroines have really romantic sounding names, I wish she had been reading one of those, because Katy is so boring! I’ve gone by Kay since I was 11 anyways, there were five Katy’s (although they were spelled Katie) in my fifth grade class!
Liz says
FABRIC ME!!!!
My name is Elizabeth and parents had agreed that I wouldn’t have a nickname, even though there are dozen of nicknames for Elizabeth. That changed when my cousin started calling me “Lizzie”. He was about three at the time so it sounded more like “wiggie”. Too cute to ignore! Now I go by Liz or Lizzie.
Alexandria says
FABRIC ME…per my internet research it means “protector of mankind” after Alexander the great…but I think my mom just thought it was pretty.
Stephanie says
FABRIC ME!
“Stephanie” means “crowned,” but my parents just named me that because they thought it was pretty … much like many other parents who had babies in the 80s!
Kristin says
FABRIC ME!
My name is from the credits from a tv show my parents were watching while my mom was pregnant. Really meaningful!
Lori @ Lighten Up! says
FABRIC ME!
The story behind my name? According to my very devout mother, Lori is derived from Our Lady of Lourdes and my sister’s name, Gina, from the word Regina (meaning Queen, another reference to the Virgin Mary). Both of our middle names are Marie for the same reason.
(Then again, my dad’s best friend since first grade has sisters named Gina and Lori, so my dad may have just spun the whole story to get his way…)
Bronwyn says
FABRIC ME! My name means “white bossom”, how awful! but I was named after a family friend.
Holly says
FABRIC ME! My mom had a dream that she had a daughter named Holly while she was trying to get pregnant. When she found out she was pregnant with me, she didn’t even consider any other names. I have grown to really like my name.
Katie says
FABRIC ME! My full name is Kathleen. No special meaning, just a good Irish name!
BJ says
FABRIC ME!!!
When my parents found out that I was a girl, they knew they needed to name me after my dad’s mother who passed away a few years prior. I feel like I have a very special bond with her even though I’ve never met her.
PK says
FABRIC ME!
Nothing special about my actual name, but the nickname starts with a P for “Princess.” :)
Amy F. says
FABRIC ME! I think my parents just liked my first name, but my middle name is the same as my aunt’s middle name (and she also happens to be my godmother) :)
Stephanie R says
FABRIC ME!
My name (Stephanie) was one of my Mom’s college roommates’ names – she thought it was so nice and unique, she remembered it and here I am! (Though I think there were at least 2-3 “stephanie”s in every one of my classes in school…)
