After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Rina says
FABRIC ME!
So the story goes, I was supposed to be Renee when I was born but there were 5 other Renee’s born on the same day in the hospital. So my mum was flicking through some magazines and came across a tabloid story about a Princess Rina in Italy. I was actually born in New Zealand and Rina is also a popular Maori name so they went for it! I love that it’s a bit different but also translates well to many other cultures. I’ve lived in Japan also where it’s a common name :-).
Karina M says
FABRIC ME!
My parents used an old baby name book of my grandparents when they were having kids. I don’t think my name has a specific meaning, but it is Russian in origin. However, it seems to be a very popular Latin American name for girls these days. Thanks for the chance to win!
Jenny E says
FABRIC ME!!!
I think my parents named me Jennifer b/c it was soooo popular in the 70s. I always had at least a few other Jenny/Jennifers in my classes. My middle name was the same as my moms.
Leigh says
Fabric Me!!!
I am named after my dad. My mom and dad disagreed on my name, but gave in. To this day, she says she would change my name. She did get her way on my brother and sister’s names so you win some, you lose some.
Mary | lemongroveblog says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my Aunt, who actually passes away right before my birth. And, I’m from a good ole’ Catholic Family, so ya know the name Mary had to make a debut at some point ;)
Ann Obeney says
Fabric me!!! Pretty please! I need some new drapes in my house!
Tiffany S. says
Fabric me! My middle name is Hope. My other sister’s middle name is Faith. And my third sister’s middle name is…..Marie. (Sorry to disappoint those who were hoping for Love.)
lisa says
FABRIC ME! My parent’s liked the meanings of the name “light” and “consecrated to God”. Since I was born in the 80s, and the name was super popular in the 70s, it was always a little awkward when everyone else I knew with that name was at least 10 years older. Now all I ever hear is “mommy” or “honey”, which I prefer anyways :)
Cheryl says
FABRIC ME! No reason on my first name, but my middle name was with the Jewish tradition to take the first letter of a relative and go from there. So Frances came from Freida lol.
Jessica says
Fabric ME Please!!!!!!!
Rena says
Fabric Me! I have always wished my name was spelled Renee as that is how it is pronounced.
Jennifer Earle says
FABRIC ME!!! My dad wanted to name me after himself (Edward), which would leave me as Edwina. Wow so glad my mom talked him out of it with a name that has no significance in our family or to her, she just liked it. Apparently so did my dad. :)
Emily says
FABRIC ME!
My mom always loved the name, and she got sidetracked naming all of my other siblings, so when they decided to go back and have another child, she finally got to use it. I never really liked it, but it’s starting to grow on me. It means hard-working, which fits me pretty well, I think.
Katie says
FABRIC ME..
My mom was convinced I was a boy-so she had no girl name, while she was in labor she was reading a decorating magazine and in it someone had submitted something and her daughters name was Katie… so there ya have it!
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
My first name means “beloved” and my middle “song of joy”. My mother was thrilled to be expecting after 7 years of trying. Awwww!
Kim says
FABRIC ME! My parents were going to name me after my Oma, Gerry, and she told them they could not name a little girl that. She suggested Kimberly and they agreed. Thank goodness.
Liz says
Fabric Me! My middle name is the name of my dad’s favorite aunt.
Dawn says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my mom’s friend in high school, Debbie Dawn. Apparently her full name was Deborah Dawnicia. And in 6th grade when I found that out, I promptly decided that THAT was my real name and started putting Dawnicia at the top of all of my school papers and signing all my notes with Dawnicia. It was awesome and lasted until my cousin said, “Why does this say ‘Dawn-ee-sha’?” When the whole time is was supposed to be “Dawn-ee-cee-ah.” I was crushed and just went back to plain old Dawn… until 8th grade when I added a second N to it. Because Dawnn was MUCH cooler than Dawn.
I actually love my name now. Simple, somewhat unique (there aren’t too many of us around), and well, it’s mine.
Danielle says
FABRIC ME!
I’m not sure how or why my parents chose Danielle, other than the fact they wanted us all to have French names because of our heritage. I do know that my Dad wanted to name me Noelle, but since I was born in June (not December – ala Noel), my Mom didn’t agree.
Ashley S. says
Fabric me!
I was named after a cat. My mom knew she was having twin girls and already had Courtney picked out, but couldn’t think of a second name. She was outside and heard her neighbor calling her cat, who was named Ashley. It wasn’t known yet how insanely popular Ashley would be, and she liked how Ashley and Courtney sounded together.
Ironically, I’m allergic to cats.
Monica says
Fabric me!
My mom almost spelled my name with a K. I thank her all the time for going traditional; a French last name that’s hard to spell and pronounce is bad enough!
Corey says
Fabric Me, please!
Throughout my life, when people saw my name (but don’t know me and haven’t seen me), they always think it’s a boy they are about to talk to. It’s become kind of hilarious when I shock appointment setters or telemarketers, or when I get mail addressed to “Mr. Corey…”
It works for me though :) And all else fails, provides a pretty easy phone screener.
Susan says
Fabric me! I was named after my aunt.
Lisa says
FABRIC ME!
This keeps saying I have a duplicate comment.
Eryn says
FABRIC ME!! My name is Irish, but I think my parents just liked it. The “y” is a family tradition that I’ve put in my daughter’s name too. I think it makes it a bit more feminine!
Stacy says
“FABRIC ME!” Hmmmm… Not sure I know of any special meaning or story behind my name BUT I do know I was almost named Priscilla. WHew!
Steph H says
FABRIC ME! My first name is just a name my parents liked, but my middle name (Lauren) is a form of my Great-Grandfather’s name, Laurel.
Momma Bear says
Fabric me!
I was named after my uncle. :-)
Sara says
FABRIC ME!
My parents picked my name just because they liked it!
Liz quick says
Fabric me!
Janice says
Fabric me!
My name alone does not have meaning. However, my parents used my grandmothers’ first initials to give me my initials. So, my first name is based off of my maternal grandmother, middle name based off of my paternal grandmother.
Hayley says
FABRIC ME!
Unfortunately no significance to my name Hayley, although I always wished they used my middle name gemma first instead!
Momcat says
FABRIC ME! I was named after my mother’s favorite cousin, and my nickname (Cat) was given to me so I wouldn’t be confused with a hated ex-in-law with the same name as me.
Anne L. says
FABRIC ME! My parents wanted to name their kids in alphbetical order. Since I’m the oldest, I got the “A” name.
Amy G says
FABRIC ME! My name doesn’t have any special meaning that I know of….
Lorna says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after my dad’s secretary. True story.
Jamie says
FABRIC ME!
My first name is the female form of my uncle’s middle name and my middle name is my aunt’s middle name.
Liz quick says
My name means “concencrated to God.”
Jessica says
Fabric me!!!!
Sally says
Fabric Me! My mom’s name is Sara and she always wanted to be named Sally – so I got stuck with it. Could be worse, right?
Pat says
Fabric me!
Patricia was a popular name when I was born – there were 6 Patricias in my class – but my parents almost named me Victoria instead. Have no idea where that came from.
Lindy says
Fabric Me! My first name is after my maternal grandmother and middle after my paternal grandmother. They both passed away in 2012, so my name is a constant reminder of what fantastic women they were and that I strive to make them proud.
Jamie G. says
Fabric me!
I am named after my maternal uncle who died of brain cancer two months before I was born. I am told that my personality and free spiritidness are a lot like his! (And yes, I just made up free spiritidness as a totally acceptible word!)
Jennifer R says
Fabric Me!
All I know is that my moms favorite tv soap had a lead character with my name! Hopefully I lived up to it!
Julia says
FABRIC ME! my name is my great-grandmother’s name and my parents agreed on it. I have always liked b/c I did not know anyone else with it until about middle school:)
Patria says
FABRIC ME!
My name is of latin origin, meaning Father Land or Country. It is hard for most to pronounce and I often get corrected that it should be Patricia, but I hope I know how to spell and say my own name :)
Michelle R. says
Fabric me! Iam named after my grandfather Michael and the Archangel.
angie says
Fabric me!
Louise says
“louise” means warrior princess and yes it fits me very well! It is an old French name that has been in my Mom’s family for many years. I use to hate it as a child because it was so different than my peers, but of course now I like that there are not too many women named Louise
Mel Holt says
FABRIC ME!
My parents named me after Melanie from Gone With The Wind. As my husband and I were making baby-name lists for our daughter, we kept going back to the name Olivia (which we chose to name our baby girl). Come to find out, Olivia de Havilland is the actress who played Melanie in the movie. Pretty cool, huh?!
