After 10,000 interesting name origin stories, random.org has selected our winners as… Beth (who says “my dad picked it out and to this day I’m whole heartily a daddy’s girl.”) and Chelsea (who’s name story is: “My parents got my name from the 1981 movie, On Golden Pond. ‘Chelsea’ was played by Jane Fonda”) Congrats!
I realize from the name Online Fabric Store, you might have trouble guessing what this online store sells, so allow me to solve that mystery for ya. Fabric! And seemingly every kind of fabric – like upholstery, decor, quilting, apparel and even garden fabric. Which means that this week’s two winners (who are each getting $250 to spend there) could tackle anything from sewing some pillow covers or making a duvet to redoing the curtains in an entire room. And the cool thing about their system is that the more yardage you buy, the cheaper each yard gets – and once you get over that $50 mark, your shipping in the US is free.

Ashley Busse says
“FABRIC ME!”
I share a middle name with my grandmother, mother, and now my oldest daughter, too!
Kathryn Victoria says
or rather…FABRIC* ME! of course I screw up the one thing that is important in the giveaway ha!
elizabeth says
Fabric me! My parents liked the significance of my name, and then my middle name is after my grandmother. I love to quilt and love the online fabric store!! Great people!
Nancy Evans says
Fabric me! My story is about my middle name. Al of the females in my family were given the middle name of Ellen as it was my Grandmother’s middle name. Except…my Grandmother went to get a passport to travel abroad when she was well into her 70’s and was told that her middle name was NOT Ellen. It was Helen. Therefore, we were all named after no one!
Kellynne says
FABRIC ME!
My mom was really good at picking names – for each of the kid’s names, she wanted there to be something original and something special. For my name, she put both into one name and made up a name. She loved the name Kelly, and her middle name (and her mom’s middle name) was Lynne, so she smooshed them together and made Kellynne (pronounced like Helen with a K). People have a hard time pronouncing it, but I don’t care – I love my name! :)
Christine says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked the name.
Emily says
FABRIC ME!!
The only time I wished I could change my name was during the brief period that the movie “the exorcism of Emily Rose” came out. I still get comments on being exorcismed lol
Charissa J. says
FABRIC ME!
My name, Charissa, pronounced like Charisma but a “sa” not a “ma”. Means grace and is a name that my mom always loved. Always knew she’d name a girl it if she had one! I love my name, its unique but not too unique.
Callina says
Fabric me!
My name comes from a character in a book called Quo Vadis, a classic novel about the Roman Empire.
Keilan says
Fabric me! My name is Gaelic and loosely translated it would be Kaitlin, Katherine, Kathleen, etc…. In Gaelic it is spelled “Killian” (and pronounced kee-lynn) and I am VERY glad that my mother changed that spelling otherwise here in the great ol’ USA I’d be named after a beer and everyone would be pronouncing it incorrectly! Although my parents both liked my name I am certain (without being told this) that my mom had ulterior motives to keep my initials the same as hers and the other family members… and I have the old family jewelry now to prove that theory!
Kimberly says
FABRIC ME!
“Kimberly” means “from the royal meadow” more or less. My parents just liked the sound of the name; I don’t think they even knew what it meant. My middle name is hyphenated as I’m named after both grandmothers…when I got married I thought that 5 names was too much (first, middle-middle, maiden name, married name) so I dropped the two middle ones. Man, mom was unhappy about that move, sigh :)
Sarah says
Fabric me! My parents just liked it. And so do I :)
cathy says
Fabric me!
I think my parents had run out of names as I was the 5 kid.
Jen says
Fabric Me! My parents always liked my name.
Caitlyn says
Fabric me!
My mom thought my name was the most beautiful name she had ever heard and saved it through years of trying to have a baby. After adopting me, she christened me Caitlyn and to a life of knowing a million other Katie’s/Katherine’s/Caity’s/Caitlyn’s/you name. She told me that at the time, it was a unique name and she’d never met a Caitlyn before. Turns out, a million other moms were thinking the same thing. :)
MaryB in Richmond says
FABRIC ME!!!
I’m a Catholic girl born in 1961. There was no way they’d have named me anything BUT “Mary!”
:-)
Teri says
FABRIC ME, please! No special meaning behind my name, parents just liked it.
Nicole says
Fabric me (please)! My parents chose my middle name to be my first name (both picked randomly out of a baby book) until my dad’s friend made fun of the name. It made my dad so nervous about it, he ended up switching my middle name to be my first name (Nicole). I am SO thankful to that friend since Nicole is much more mainstream than my weird middle name.
DD (Ivy) is named after the main character of my favorite book in middle school (The Heart’s Lonely Secret) – yes, again, BEFORE Beyonce copied me.
Amy says
FABRIC ME!
My name means beloved, but I don’t think it’s why I was named what I was; it was just a name my parents both liked. Somewhat interesting – I was going to be named Amy Michelle, but I hailed from a small town (around 5,000 people) and someone in my town had a baby girl a week or two before I was born and named their baby Amy Michelle. In order to not have the exact same name, I became Amy Nicole.
Kylie says
FABRIC ME!
My name is actually aboriginal for the side of a boomerang. I always joked that meant I would always come back! My Mum just liked the name, that or Kelly. Or possibly Odette :( if my Paternal Grandmother had her way.
Sara says
FABRIC ME!
Apparently my parents narrowed my name down to Sara or Pearl, and Sara won out! It means princess, which is nice, although far from the truth!
Claire says
FABRIC ME!
Long before my mother was even pregnant, she knew she wanted a daughter named Claire. I think it was non-negotionable so my dad went along with it!
Kelly says
Fabric Me!
My name is actually all last names… my first name is my maternal grandmother’s maiden name and my middle name is (was) my paternal grandmother’s maiden name. It’s funny because my husband’s name is the same formula!
Carol C says
Fabric me!
My mother always says that she liked the name Carol. When I was a child, I liked to think that I was named Carol since I was born so soon after Christmas.
Meghan says
Fabric me!
When I was a girl I’d have given anything for the name Crystal Rose.
Erin says
FABRIC ME!
I was told that my name means “Lover of Peace”. I guess it fits – I don’t like arguing! I’ve always liked it, except when I try to tell it over the phone. People hear “Anne” or “Sarah” or they try to spell it like the usual guy’s spelling “Aaron”
Shawn says
FABRIC ME! First name was chosen but my middle is passed down from my dad.
Julianna says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after the Queen of the Netherlands – my parents lived there pre-me!
Cristina says
FABRIC ME! My parents picked my name out of the back of my grandmother’s Spanish Bible which had a list of Mexican names. I love how it’s spelled – without an h – because it points to my Mexican heritage.
Tina says
FABRIC ME!
My name means “little one” which works as I am smallest in my family!
Michellei says
FABRIC ME PLEASE :) I was named after my grandmother’s best friend…her father was french and her mother was native hawaiian so they combined the french name “michelle” and the hawaiian name “lei” and made michellei. I just met her for the first time last year and it was pretty special.
Amy says
FABRIC ME! I was almost a Rebecca but my mom didn’t want me to be Becky. So Amy it is, and I”m happy with my name, no complaints!
Angie says
FABRIC ME! I was named after the Rolling Stones song, “Angie.” It’s a pretty depressing song, but at least it’s pretty.
Tiffany S says
Fabric me!!!
kim says
FABRIC ME!
My parents planned to name me Anastasia. But once they saw me they decided I was more of a … Kim. Not sure how to interpret that, so I try not to.
Lo says
FABRIC ME!
My name was the friend of my mom. She wanted me to be a boy, so I think it was a last minute choice. :)
Catherine says
FABRIC ME!
I was named after my grandmother who died of breast cancer when my mom was 18. I never had the opportunity to meet her, but every story I’ve heard confirms that she is an incredible namesake. I feel honored to have been named after her. :)
Kristy D says
FABRIC ME! Cause what mother in the 80s doesn’t want a tomboy Kristy McNichol?
Allison Nesbit says
Fabric me!
I believe my name was a last minute pick as my mom was convinced I was a boy… And to her surprise she was blessed with a daughter instead :)
Brooke says
Fabric Me!
I was told that my name was decided on because there was a little brook that ran outside of the house my parents lived in when I was born.
Lauren says
Fabric me! My mom says she just liked my name, but as it turns out, she and my dad had a cat with my middle name. The cat was a boy cat named Nelson Elizabeth. They then named me Lauren Elizabeth. Parents are weird (I can say that, I’m now a parent too. But my daughter is not named after a cat).
Jessica says
FABRIC ME! I’m named after the Allman Brothers song!
Amanda says
Fabric me! No special meaning here :-)
Audrey says
FABRIC ME!!
My name is my mother’s favorite name since she was a little girl, and my dad so happened to love it too! :)
Lori says
FABRIC ME! My parents just liked my name, so they picked it!
Carrie says
FABRIC ME!
My parents always had the deal that my mom picked boy names and my dad picked the girl ones. I am named after two great (great great? not sure how many) grandmothers. I used to wish I had one of the “cool girl” names like Kristen or Allison, but I am glad I don’t now. I am glad I didn’t have to be an Allison M. or Allison P. because there were so many of them.
Melissa says
FABRIC ME!!
Nothing special about my first name, but I can’t wait to get rid of my last name! Smith is just no fun although it does come in handy when you want to be anonymous ;)
Whitney says
FABRIC ME!
My dad actually picked my name, and my mom liked it too. I was going to be named Ashley, but I’m glad I wasn’t..it’s too common. I like my name because it’s not one you hear all the time, but it’s not too weird or hard to spell/remember either!
Caroline says
Fabric Me!!
I was named after my 2 great grandmas, caroline and elizabeth. I have always loved my name. I was always the only Caroline in class and now at work and I love that!
Christine says
FABRIC ME!
Because I was a Christmas baby, my parents named me Christine Noel! As a little kid, I thought “The First Noel” was written for me . . . Whoops!
Thank you!
